This is a terrible place. Dirty, shabby, very very rundown ( empty flower beds, paint peeling from the terraces, rust marks down the walls), chronic food and dreadfully unhelpful staff. Our first room had a view of ugly water pipes and felt subterranean owing to the high bank outside. After 2+ hours we moved to a higher room and had a "fabulous" view of a rusting hulk in the bay, a shanty town and empty beer and Coca Cola cans in the "garden".The curtains were hanging off the window, sweet papers on the floor, some previous occupants socks in the drawer and dirty Sellotape marks all over the yellowing plastic suspended ceiling. The furniture was battered and the bed sheet wasn't big enough to cover the entire mattress. It was horrendous.
Ok so the weather was appalling with rain and a gale force wind blowing through the hotel but the whole place was so bad we left after one night despite losing money. Another couple who arrived at the same time left after viewing their second room as it was so bad...they wouldn't even risk one night!
It's a pity as the place has potential and could be lovely but there's nowhere comfortable to go and relax and get out of the wind/rain if you get bad weather. We ended up drinking coffee in a hotel down in the town trying to get warm.
In short we hated Baracoa, scruffy, dirty and nothing to do, and this hotel just finished us off. It certainly didn't live up to all the hype and was NOT worth the effort of driving over the mountains to get to it....a HUGE disappointment.
The only tip you need is not to go there!
