“great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2012

stayed at levilehto for a week at the begining of March, we booked a 3 room apt so we could have a bedroom eacha nd still have the living room. The are supposed to sleep up to 6 but it would be very cramped at full occupancy. As it was we were very comfortable. Comfy beds, could have more clothes storage space as only 1 tiny wardrobe with 1 shelf in our room. Lovely sauna and heated up quickly, great to have the hallway for putting all your ski things and getting in and out without losing all the heat. Plenty of cooking facilities ( take your own as the one that was there was lethal!) Tv had some english speaking channels - a bit random as to what you got though and some very old programs ( flying doctors!).
Nice and easy to get to the supermarket and not bad but enough of a walk to the ski slope ( especially with a child). Inghams said it was 400m but we gps'd it at 600.
Lots to like about the place and we are thinking about going back next year.

Firstly, many thanks to Corcoran1 for the helpful reply to my PM.

Arrived in Levi about 2000 Sunday night in minus 30 temperature! Apartment keys issued by our Inghams rep en route from the airport. (Cabin 16). On arrival cabin was all warm and cosy and felt really inviting. Was a bit concerned that wouldn't be able to get milk and basics that time of night on a Sunday but no worries, supermarket across the road open until 2100 and had all we needed.

As we were leaving Levi the following Sunday at 1800 and knowing checkout was at 1100, contacted levilehto via e-mail to arrange late checkout. Confirmed this with reception on arrival and all was done (costs 30E).

Cabin was well equipped and had basics including W/U liquid, dishwasher liquid cleaning gear; salt&pepper; loo rolls and cleaning cloths etc. maybe these were left by previous occupants? Adequate supply of pots and pans etc to cook basic meals.

Found the supermarket nearer the Hullo Porro better stocked than the Levi market, also has the very important Alko shop attached!

Cabin got very warm and it took us nearly all week to regulate the temperature. The cabins are very well insulated, the log fire throws out a tremendous heat and whilst very cosy the residual heat warms the place so much it gets stifling when trying to sleep. Even opened the windows one night!

Didn't use the sauna so cannot comment on that.

Based on the good deal that we got for the week break, I'd say it was about right, paying full price would not have been so good, mainly because incidental costs are pretty high.

PS don't bank on the WiFi connection its rubbish, free but unsecured access from the Spa/bowling alley complex OK.

I stayed here with my wife between Jan 22nd and 29th in chalet number 15. Location is ideal for a number of reasons, we booked with Inghams and arranged several excursions, the pick up point for the excursions is at the sirkantahti hotel opposite, perhesafarit who deal with snowmobile safaris and thermal suit hire etc is also across the road as well as the supermarket which we used a few times.
We stayed in the smaller chalet, there is a small entrace foyer with a drying cabinet and space to hang coats etc, then the main room with kitchen area, sofa, log fire, table and then bunk beds which were actually really cosy, then the other room is the shower, wc and private sauna which was fantastic after a very cold day.
Also there is a tv with dvd player, we took a few dvds with us which was a good idea.
We booked with inghams as we found them to be quite reasonable on their website, we went in search of the northern lights and to enjoy the excursions. We were both non skiers, for skiers you would maybe have a 5/10 min walk to zero point for the ski lifts.

We found a couple of negative points with this accomodation,
Firstly the cleanliness which we found a little below par, hairs around the place, some of the kitchen utensils weren't clean.
Secondly we found the walls to be a little thin meaning we could hear the couple next door pretty clearly including their skype conversation one night, they were an elderly couple quite possibly a little deaf as well and perhaps we were a little unlucky in this respect as I don't see other reviews around noise!

I would be happy to return to this accomodation but would ideally prefer the larger chalet for a bit more room, the log fire and sauna were both fantastic. The sauna was warm pretty quickly, around 20-30 mins or so, in an ideal world they would have an electronic timer on it so it would be ready for when you got back!

Northern lights - we read reviews on trip advisor and walked down to the immelmokit cabins by the immeljarvi lake. From where we stayed it wasn't a long walk, 5 - 10 mins ish maximum You can see the lights on average on 4 out of every 5 days in levi provided there is no cloud cover, we were lucky enough to see the lights a little on sunday night and then for around 30 - 40 mins on the tuesday night.
http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast is useful for identfying when will be a good night.time for spotting. We went out around 10 ish, it seem between 10 - 12 pm is the best time for spotting.
It was a truly magical experience, a few people do go down to the lake as it is away from the lights of levi ( of which there isn't that many, it's just to improve your chances)

We booked many excursions, huskey safari, reindeer safari, ice karting, snow village and evening aurora safari on snowmobile.
Huskey safari was amazing, we were taken to a lovely huskey farm, all the animals well looked after well, gorgeous picturesque scenary and then were taken over the frozen lake and through the forest when the sun was going down.
Highly recommend that one, in fact all the excursions were great, for any more info do contact me.

Room Tip: I would punt for the one of the bigger rooms that are detached if possible.

This is our third stay at Levilehto Chalets. This time we just had a one bedroom which had the bedroom within the Living area. Only 3 of us so this was fine. Plenty of cooking facilities and very very warm. Most of the time we had to turn down heating and open windows (even though it was -22). Sauna was fantastic after a busy day in the snow. We love Levi and will be back again next year.

We are a couple who stayed in chalet number 17, one of the smallest units but couldn`t be better equipped. It is ideal for a couple or with a small child under 8. As you enter their is a drying closet which warms your clothes or dries them after a spin in the washing machine. another door brings you to the main room which has a double bed with a single bunk on top. The linen is all laid out for you. In this room is a kitchen with full cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle all cutlery and utensils, bottle opener etc. The wood burner is heavenly and there is a log store-cupboard behind reception. There is a cd radio player and tv with dvd player. When playing dvd`s press home on the remote then go onto `Muu`. This will bring you into dvd mode.
The bathroom is small but like the main room is well equipped with washing machine, great shower which always had a great supply of very hot water and a sauna. When setting the sauna turn the dial below the unit to 4 then the temperature three quarters around. It will be hot enough within 40 minutes and can always be adjusted.
We took dvd`s for early evening as the Finns don`t hit the bars until 9.30-10pm but they do stay until around 4am. We also took a 1000 piece jigsaw which passed the odd hour with a glass of wine or great cheap spirits from the Alko shop. You will find this just past the Sirkanthati Hotel towards the Crazy Reindeer. It has bottles of wine for 7 euros upwards and plenty of beers, spirits etc, none of it overpriced. this is different in the bars as most rounds of 2 drinks were approx 14 euros. We left our dvd`s and jigsaw there for the next guest to enjoy.
The trips are reasonable value and can be as fun you want them to be. Ice Karting is 50 euros and competitors get several attempts at racing coming off every 15 mins for a warm by the fire.
If you have been to the ice hotel in Sweden then you will be disappointed by this one but with the right attitude great fun can be had in the ice bar and the slippy dance floor it has.
We are middle aged and that`s being kind to ourselves but we went out pulling sledges each day and if we weren`t racing each other down the slopes then we were pulling shopping back in them.
If you want to try skiing, take your passport to point zero, omly a 6 or 7 minute walk from the chalet and equipment will cost approx 30 euros including a ski pass for the day.
Cheaper restaurants are at the Crazy Reindeer. the Rock Cafe there has burger and chips for approx 12 euros and a really decent sized glass of wine for 4 euros...the cheapest in town by far. Avoid La Cantina Mexican by the piste as the food is awful. The burritos seemed to be smothered in primula squirty cheese and the meal here cost us 56 euros just for main courses and a drink each.
If you need any more info, let me know.

We spent a week in one of their smaller apartments over the festive season. Quite cosy and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the sauna and open-fire. Location is also convenient, being right across the road from the mini-market and town-centre, and up the road from the tourist-information office. However, we were quite disappointed with the lack of basic supplies, such as salt and pepper, sugar, dishcloths, and the bedsheets which were too small for the mattress. We don't usually opt for self-catering so not sure if such items are usually supplied. In any case, it doesn't make sense to buy these for just a few days. Also, internet was so slow that it was mostly unavailble, which was the biggest disappointment. Next time, we'll opt for a hotel.

We stayed at these apartments for 3 nights during Christmas 2011.
Wonderful place to stay, near the centre of Levi (it's a very small town anyway).

As they are apartments, you get everything you need to cook etc.
The sauna is good but I must warn you that it does take a while to heat up (think >5 hours), at least ours took that long - cabin no. 3.

The reception isnt open very long - 1200 to 1600 or so on most days. Make sure you get all the asnwers/help you want during this window.

Overall, would recommend this place !
