The Hat Museum is a fascinating exploration of the history and art of hatmaking, from the felting of wool to the various processes of creating hats of all kinds for men and women out of all manner of materials. Espéraza was once a thriving centre for this interesting trade and the museum is a truly fascinating insight into the equipment used - much of it is like mechanical sculpture; masterpieces of design and engineering - and of the processes used to create fashions for the head. There is also a hatshop where, for 30 euros, for example, you can buy a traditional beret, having discovered how they were and are made! Other hats start at 5 euros. So, a must see in Espéraza which also has an amazing, huge and popular Sunday market with all manner of interesting things to look at, eat and buy.
