We were recommended to come to The Markland by Michael and Jen from Seapray Adventures.
The Markland is simply lovely - perched above the Apsy bay, with the Dingwall harbour just tucked away in a quaint corner. Here's where you can find fishermen coming in with their haul of lobsters!
Seeing that it was the low season, Kim the receptionist, had us upgraded to a better cabin with two rooms and a fully equipped kitchen and generous living space.
Cabins - The cabins are wonderfully rustic and modern at the same time - high speed wifi, hot water on demand and heating in all the rooms. The rooms were superbly clean and the towels plush and comfy.
View - The view is breathtaking from our cabin - we see the bay leading out to the vast ocean, nicely framed by the Apsy faultline. At Markland, we enjoyed the luxury of having our breakfasts and dinners gazing out at the ocean.
Food - The food is to-die-for! We were initially disappointed when told that the restaurant only reopens in the summer, and we were abit early for that. But the big-hearted owner/chef, Paterson, must have taken pity on us and whipped up dinners for us, two out of three nights we had stayed at The Markland. His culinary skills are amazing - making the simplest food taste heavenly. He even baked his own bread! His love for cooking clearly shows in the food he serves up - mussels, lobsters, halibuts, aparagus, rhubarb tart. We just had the lobster with butter sage and it was fantastic.
People - Paterson and Kim really made our stay so memorable with their warm and welcoming reception.
We shall miss The Markland very much! Till the next time!
