“Pretty town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

The hotel is situated quite prominently on the main road in Castellane. The rooms are decent, small as per EU standards and priced cheap. We stayed there one night. The staff is helpful and the restaurant has good reviews but I didn't eat there because they didn't have anything vegan. The reception area has an old world charm to it and houses a bar in the next room.

Good location in the centre of town and easy walking distance to all the local restaurants, but this is a tired hotel. OK for a bed for the night but nothing more. Rooms are small, tatty, bathrooms falling apart and the website says it's been recently refurbished - well I'm not sure where!

Verdon gorge however is amazing and hotel is OK if travelling through the region

The Hotel is in the main square of Castellane, in the Haute Provence, rooms are variable but of reasonable quality. Service is good and the staff are friendly the restaurant is pleasant with seating inside and out, breakfast is good. Motorcyclists are welcome and there is secure parking in an undercover garage for cars and motorcycles.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter but the rooms facing the square are very acceptable

This is an economical hotel on the square in the center of town. The lobby is cool and inviting, with high ceilings and big, comfy overstuffed furniture. The rooms on the front can be noisy in the summer (for sure you'll want your windows open for sleeping), and I noticed that the rooms on the second floor in general are nicer than the ones on the top floor. On thing that is really nice in all the rooms I saw is that they have a generously sized bathroom (those of you who have ever used one of those European afterthought shower closets know why the bathroom size is worth mentioning). There is a covered garage, and the hotel seems to be favorite with motorcycle tourists. The one bad experience was dinner. "Inexcusable" is a better word. It was overpriced and truly awful--the entree being a plate of plain noodles doused in cream with a few pieces of salmon sprinked on top, followed by a dessert of ... more cream (pot de creme, plain).

Room Tip: Unless you want the liveliness of the square in your bedroom, as for a room at the back.

Stayed in this hotel for two nights as a base for exploring the gorge du verdon. The hotel itself is very well located but a bit dated. It would benefit from air conditioning as it was difficult to sleep due to the heat. Castallene is a quaint little village with several restaurants around the square. There are also several companies offering a range of outdoor activities. The hotel offers secure car parking for 7euros per day, although there is also convenient parking in the main square at a reasonable price.

I pulled into Castellane about 8 in the evening on a weekend in July and was very lucky to find they still had room at the inn. My room was tiny, the decor a bit tired, but it was totally clean, the bed was firm, and there was hot water in the tub. What more do you need for a stop over? It was a fair price at 55 euros. The staff was friendly. All in all, it felt like 1950's France, with all its charm and shabbiness. I didn't eat dinner but the restaurant looked like good value. My room was on the back and quiet. The rooms facing the main square of the town might be a bit noisy, since it's an intersection of three roads. Castellane is pleasant southern French village, with several shops and restaurants, and a square where men play petanque late into the night. I'm not sure I'd want to stay in this hotel for an extended stay, but it's an excellent choice to visit the Verdon Canyon, particularly since you can leave your car in Castellane and take a bus in the morning to the canyon.

Stayed two nights in this comfortable, slightly shabby but charming Hotel in the beautiful, and beautifully located, village of La Castellane. Friendly, helpful receptionists. The restaurant is also good value (especially the 24 Euro menu); regional cooking with quality ingredients. Secure Garage parking 7 Euros/night. Really enjoyed our stay, the only small downside was that we found the beds slightly too hard, but that's a matter of personal preference. We'll be back!
