“Nice but rustic hotel with thermal springs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We stayed in this hotel for one night as a part of the tour group. The hotel is at the altitude of 11000 ft. above the sea level and about 2.5 miles off the main Quito to Baeza road near Lake Papallacta. This hotel attracts lot of tourists because of the thermal springs. You could enjoy a bathe in these springs just outside your room. The surroundings are well maintained. You could experience high altitude sickness so one should keep well hydrated. The hotel supplies boiled water in ceramic pots in the rooms but we preferred to drink bottled water to be on the safe side. We had dinner of grilled rainbow trout with garlic sauce and quinoa soup. The trout fillet had bones which we had to watch out for. It was expensive and nothings worth mentioning. The buffet breakfast in the morning was good with nice spread of bread, eggs, potato, cheese, juices etc. We enjoyed our stay.

We were on an all inclusive tour so can not compare prices - we are not Spa people so did not do the Spa package but the people who did loved it - the natural hot spring fed pools are run and a big positive - food was good and breakfast was beautiful - we got up (very due to the tour constrains) and spend an hour on the nature hike up from the hotel - it was lovely -easy (good since your are high in the Andes) and got great photos of the volcano before the clouds obscured it - had not occasion to use room service or the fitness center

On our relatively short visit to Ecuador, we decided to journey to Papallacta from Quito for our final night (driving straight from the hotel to the airport on the final day). We originally intended to take the bus there but in the end opted to take a taxi to make the most of our time. We found our stay to be very pleasant. The construction is tastefully done, the maintenance up to par and the staff sufficiently (if not overly) helpful. Rooms were fairly spacious; beds and bathrooms nice enough. Going on a weekday, we often were the only ones in the cabin pools; reckon it's different on the weekend. Took an invigorating hourlong hike on the private trail near the hotel, capped by more soaking in the pools. I guess the only downside were the constant low-hanging clouds, which gave us only intermittent views of the surrounding hills. But I gather that comes with the territory, and foglike conditions were mystical in their own way. Certainly wouldn't consider the place a bargain, but all in all we're glad we chose it for our final night.

Visited on a national holiday so expected to see lots of families and crowded pools. the main pool's water was not hot, but just barely warm. One very shallow pool had scaling hot water, so hot, that no one was able to get in the water! Bring you own towels (can rent or purchase a towel if needed). In general, not worth the 2-3 hours roundtrip drive to get to Papallacta Hot Springs then back to Quito.

Have stayed here three times over the past 9 years. When it was $75 a night it seemed like a great value, now over double that it lacks a lot. The rooms overall are nice but not super comfortable, and only moderately clean. The restaurant is very over priced for what is offered, although the service is good and attentive. The rest of the hotel staff seems very indifferent, the reception is not very warm, and they never even offered to help us find transportation on our departure. The service reallt need to catch up with the price.

What can I say, truely amazing! The hotel is beautiful, the cottages so cozy with heated Floors and a fireplace. You have to eat at the hotel because there's nothing around. We did a hike up through their property which included a vegetable garden, their own livestock farm, a beautiful river with hidden waterfalls. It was truely a beautiful scenery with mountains surrounding you. I definitely recommend this spot! Just beware of the pools they are super hot. We end up going to the public pools that u get access to since u stay at hotel. We went at night so it wasn't packed. They are much larger and have different temperatures. We also went to get massages and I would say one of the best massages! So relaxing and comfortable!

The best of the places we stayed outside of Quito. The rooms are rustic (among other things, the floors are noticeably non-level) but clean, and the thermal pools right outside the rooms are kept clean and hot. I had a wonderful full-hour massage at the spa, which left me totally relaxed and very oily.

The wooden walkways between rooms are not designed for rolling bags - let the staff deal with luggage.
