“golf break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

After 6 hours driving from Munich we were quite tired, so it would be easier if the quickest way to the hotel from freeway was better marked, but it was not. The reception was good, the luggage was taken by buggy to our rooms, which were quite spacious and located at the house at the 4th green - tremendous view in the morning every day. Only marks here that the windows and doors do not let too much daylight in and bathroom needs some refurbishment. The breakfast were good, golf unfortunately not that much due to severe lack of water for couple of months - yellow fairways, and damaged teeboxes. Terrible view but rewarded with very good greens and generally nice and hilly course. We managed only 27 holes a day carrying our clubs, so it is rather for people who are fit or want to use buggy and run with two or three clubs between the shots from the car path to the bushes after their balls...the food at the hotel in the evening so below any expectations..as far as seafood was ok, t bone steak was never done well, even with my constant requests, and other meat based dish was served with the biggest fat piece in Tuscanny - the remarks that this is typical for the Italian food was rather silly. For golf lovers, unfortunate weather in my opinion does not explain why the bunkers were only once (!) raked by machines, so for 4 days they were just left hard as the clay and wet - pin positions the same for 7 days, while the workers were few and tended to follow the same flight, so you missed them and were accompanied by them for full 18 holes.

Room Tip: Take 1st floor at the building next to 4th green, great views if no fog in the morning

“Super destination”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Poggio dei medici is a well established course in a beautiful location just north of Florence and easy to find due to excellent signposting. The course is very scenic, quite hilly and has fabulous views. The greens are USPGA and much better than all but the best courses in the UK.There is some water on the course but it doesnot really come into play making it good to play for all abilities. The hotel was not busy and they offered us an upgrade to a junior suite with sitting room en terrace.
it was large, nicely decorated, comfortable and very clean. The housekeeping lady was scrubbing the showercubicle on her knees. All the staff was very nice and helpful. breakfast was elaborate with fruits, juices and yoghurts, cheese, ham and salami and eggs can be ordered however you like them.As is common in italy there is a variety of cakes and croissants.
There is a restaurant and a spa with turkish bath which we did not try.The practice area is beautiful with many covered bays in a sunny spot with views over the whole course.
The nearby medieval town of Scarperia has nice restaurants of which we liked Anna Trend best, popular with locals.A short drive north is a large Outlet called Barberino which has Prada,Ralph Lauren,Cavalli you name it.Florence and Florence airport are nearby.
A super destination for a golfbreak.

“Perfect hotel, superb golf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Could not be better, maybe the restaurant and rhe bar are a lbit costy, but when you come by car, you can easily find excellent restaurants, best in the fall dfuring the truffle season.
The golf course is not easy to play, but well kept and in good condition.

Room Tip: you hardly find a better place for golfing and relaxing

“Dive into Tuscany”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

If you want to truly dive into the Tuscany nature, UNA Poggio Dei Medici is truly the place to be.

You could relax into the pool and spa or try those golfing skills. You would love to go out and about and visit Scarperia, Florence and if you are a shopping addict - do not miss the Barberino McArthur Glen Outlet.

Renting a car is a MUST if you are for long holidays at least for a couple days. This way you could enjoy the whole Tuscany and don't let haggling about taxi fares spoil your otherwise unforgettable experience.

“Una Poggio Dei Medici Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

Just back from 10 days at the Una Poggio Hotel, Nr. Scarperia. Had a lovely room overlooking
the first tee and the bedding and towels were changed every day. The weather was warm and
sometimes cloudy which was a relief as it was 24/26 degrees.

The breakfast if you liked continental was quite good but if you like a good english breakfast it
was poor - only offering scrambled eggs and streaky bacon. The toaster was broken on our
first day and never appeared the ten days we were there. However the meals at night were superb with a great choice. The staff were very friendly and always spoke to us.

The golf course was quite hilly and if you are over 55 you will definitely need a buggy everyday. The midgies are dreadful and even though we sprayed ourselves all the time with "Ultrathon" (a spray recommended by the Which Magazine) we were still badly bitten. We thought Scotland
was bad for midgies but this place was worse!

The scenery in Northern Tuscany is truly beautiful but the location of the hotel is rather far out and 7 days would have been plenty at this resort. We visited Siena and San Gimignano which
were lovely and were a bit disappointed with Florence. We took the tourist bus and expected it to be like Paris where you are taken all over the city - this bus just went round the outskirts of
Florence and as we were upstairs we kept being hit by low hanging branches for much of the
trip - really quite dangerous.

Room Tip: Ask to overlook the first tee on the first floor as the ground rooms don't have the same views
