“Not great, but OK.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

When ordered on the internet, we opted for Gol Apartment 6 pers. which is situated some 200 meters away from the hotel. Upon arrival we were greatly disappointed, the whole apartment smelled of mold. The furniture was old and very worn, there was a tiny television mounted high up on the wall. But worst thing was the smell, we all reacted to it. This is the kind of apartment you would rent to foreign workers. Went back to the reception, there we were offered a room on the 3rd floor at the hotel. They offered this at an reduced price (NOK 400,- off) It was a nightmare to get to this room because of a maze of elevators and corridors. The room itself is OK, not great but OK, we didn't miss anything. The food, we only ate breakfast here, is what I would call average. Selection is average. This hotel has gone through a number of renovations and modernizations together with it being a patchwork of buildings makes it a mixture of styles. This for me makes it difficult to relax here. One of the main attraction, Tropicana badeland, is off course the children's favorite but I've seen better. All in all it's a OK place to spend a few days, I'm not sure I'll return in the near future though.

We were a group of 30 bikers from Denmark that stayed here for 4 nights.
Per's Hotel was part of a package deal with Color Line - the ferry from Denmark to Larvik.
Rooms were clean and perfect and the food simply brilliant!
The first night we arrived quite late, after the restaurant buffet was closed, but we could just call them half an hour before arrival and a dinner was waiting for us. Super service.
I will not hesitate to recommend the place for all. Also for families with kids as the "water park" is great fun for kids with its wave machine and small kid basins.
We could even park our bikes in the underground parking at no cost.
For bikers there's plenty of great tours in the wonderful landscape and for walkers there's also a lot of hikes.
I'm not into skiing but the whole area is based on this.

I got a "luxus" room ( room 008) which was probably from the 80's exept the flatscreen tv. Everything was worn and ugly. Not possible to get the dirt clean and the room was just sad.

I asked for a price for a room in 2 days in the reception and got a price for 990,- each night a total of 1980,- When I checked out they tried to charge me for 2380,- He fixed it quick though when i told him.

The wifi was terrible , not possible to get wifi in my room and the wifi in the lobby was very slow and unstable.

The breakfast was plain and boring.

The hotel can be glad they have a lot of "tourists" coming once, because I cant believe people will get back at this hotel for a second time.

Was a family of 6 and had a large room with space enough for everyone. However the room was both old and cleanliness was not good. Two single beds were put together as a double bed, but otherwise good. We had views to the rear of the property, ie the roof at Tropicana. The food in the buffet was fantastic, both good range and much good taste. Staff at reception were both naughty and not service minded. Our child aged 3 was bad way and sadly threw up on the floor in our room. We called the front desk and asked for assistance. It took a long time before they came, and when they came, they delivered a bucket of water and some cloths "wash up yourself." In addition the bucket contained so much ammonia that it was close to irresponsible to sleep in the room afterwards. We had expected a bit more when staying at the hotel, disappointing.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I had very low expectations to this old classic hotel at Gol and was somewhat positively surprised even though the standard is still poor compared to international standards. We booked a family room that had a small loft with 3 beds (5 in total) and a nice balcony with view over the outdoor part of the Aqualand (Tropicana). The youngsters loved the swimming facilities and the bowling - but NOK 40 for a game of snooker is rather expensive.... The restaurant served a very tasty and delicious buffet with hot and cold meals. They even had a very good sushi/sashimi alternative! At breakfast you could choose an omelet or freshly fried egg and a wonderful freshly pressed orange juice. But the old lady responsible for "lunch boxes" (Norwegian phenomena) was a terrible experience at 6 am - she was grumpy and did not have any service attitude at all - what a way to start the day! Why can´t a customer charge a lunch box to the room the same day as you are checking out? "Because the system has already set all the bills.....". And who brings cash to breakfast at 6 am? My best advise to the management would be make sure that you let service oriented people in front of the customer and hide those not suitable to meet guests in the background....

Unfortunately the price level does not really match the standard you pay for - we paid NOK 5.000,- ($800) for 3 nights - inclusive breakfast and dinner. But the classic Pers Hotel still has something to offer, but watch out for the lunch box lady - she doesn´t like to be disturbed in the morning....

Room Tip: Choose a room high up - some experience noise on LG and 1. floor

Our expectations were a bit lowered by some of the reviews in here, but all in all we were well happy with our stay. Spacious and clean room on the 4. floor, no noise or other annoyances. Fridge (empty) and water boiler in-room. Hotel play-room and holiday entertainment good and free fun for the kids (of which there are lots!), Tropicana waterworld not too impressive for the price. Breakfast and dinner buffet really good and varied. Gol is a dump though, no real need to leave the hotel.

What a pity this place seems to be neglected. It really is overpriced for what you get in comparison to other hotels.
The one and only restaurant that was open in the pm in hotel served food way below standard at outragious prices compared to quality. Its obvious they do not seem to have much competition and therefore can charge what they want.
