“FABULOUS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

My wife and I have been staying with Jac (and son Caj, and daughter Senna when around: + dog, cat and chickens) at the start of summer for a number of years now, and it's definately home from home. Jac is a wonderful man who is the perfect host. The house itself is of fabulous design, with windows ceiling to floor in the downstair guest room, with wonderful vast views of a sky dominated landscape. Sitting on the bench outside and at the rear of the building all that can be heard are birds singing; no road/traffic noise or anything else. It's so restful and theraputic. Views from the upstairs large beautiful bedroom are also stunning (see my photo). Breakfast is also something to look forward to. We usually settle for a contental breakfast with cereals, fruit juices, hams, cheeses, jams, chopped fresh fruit, excellent filter coffee, hot freshly baked bread etc etc. Its an absolutely fabulous place to stay and so stress relieving. We're already waiting for our next trip there. Thank you Jac and Caj for another wonderful time with you. Roy & Jean M

Room Tip: Both the downstairs and upstairs rooms are fabulous.

My partner and I were touring the Uists but wanted to stay in places with creature comforts.. we weren't disappointed at Jac's! Not surprising as the man is an artist he has made a beautiful home. Incredibly spacious and open plan with a large luxury bathroom it definately has a top quality feel, with sort of high end Ikea boutiquey decor. It reminded me of Danish design, I don't know if that is an insult, but I loved it! His approach is friendly and makes you very welcome. To say he gave us the personal touch would be an understatement, kindly offering us lifts and organising taxis for 2 muppets who thought they could traverse the islands on foot.. (don't do that). The breakfast was fruits, cereals, breads, meats and cheeses - unusual and nice, and as it's round a big dining room table you get to know other people staying there! Also I would recommend the Langass Lodge nearby (ish) for dinner but book in advance as it's popular!

Room Tip: Top room had good views of sheep

Jac made us feel extremely welcome - meeting us on the driveway - and the large windows in the bedroom helped make the most of the landscape, wildlife and the unique natural light of the area. We never felt the need to lock the door when we explored under Jac's advise. He was keen to share his extensive local knowledge. Modern, bright, clean rooms and a good wi-fi connection. Breakfast in a continental style and more than adequate

This is an excellent place for B&B on North Uist. We stayed in the upstairs guest room and loved the fantastic views towards the beach. The room was large and comfortable in a modern, uncluttered style. Our bathroom was spacious and very functional. Jac makes all his guests feel very welcome and the breakfast is very good too. Jac is happy to share his knowledge of local wildlife and he gave us some excellent advice on places to go walking. Highly recommended, especially for bird watchers and walkers.

A great place to stay and the floor to ceiling windows in the spacious bedroom mean that you almost become part of the scenery - with beautiful sunsets as an additional FREE extra!
Jac who is an artist and from Holland (now an established "son" of North Uist) is keen that you enjoy your stay - breakfasts are excellent and he is very helpful with his knowledge of the area.
Peg also makes you most welcome and likes to be made a fuss of - a very well behaved collie!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and thoroughly recommended.

This place is absolutely fabulous and inspiring! Spacious, modern, bright and very clean rooms. A rich and tasty breakfast buffet. And above all, Jac, the most kind and helpful host. We will return for sure!

On our recent walking trip to the Outer Hebrides we fortunately booked to stay at Bagh Alluin the home of Jac Volbeda. Jac a Dutch artist warmly welcomed us into his architect designed stylish home on his croft on the Island of Baleshare and he looked after us very well. The spacious, well lit, beautifully appointed accommodation with uninterrupted views over the croft towards the Atlanitic was extremely comfortable and we could certainly recommend a stay here. Jac is very knowledgeable on the area and in particular the wildlife.
