“Comfortable family-run hostal, warm and friendly family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

We really enjoyed our stay here. Luis and his family are all extremely accessible, friendly and helpful and always offered suggestions for places to eat in town, tour agencies to use, even advice on additional places to visit in Colombia. Luis also saved us from being swindled by some over eager bus companies that were giving us false information about their routes. He is very sincere and genuinely wants to help! Our room was clean and had a private bathroom, closet, and nice large windows to offer views/fresh air. Nice outdoor area with hammocks out back too, and wifi. Good location, close to bus station and the center of town. Nice cozy and familial atmosphere (when you walk down the stairs you are basically entering their dining room area) but also has the privacy you need for your room. Highly recommended!

Friendly comfortable guest house, felt a bit weird to be being in someone's family home but the dorms are out the back by a little courtyard garden with cooking facilities and handy travel guides and reference books section. I forget the guy's name but he was so helpful and speaks perfect English. They do Spanish lessons too, when I get to go back to Colombia I would definitely stay there again. Loved Villa de Leyva so much, cute place with very little nightlife but loads to do in the surrounding area.

There's nothing different to say about this hostel. It's a nice home, which the hostel was made. They have fair rooms and clean. Comfortable bed and nice sheets. The Bathrooms are also very ok. They don't have breakfast, but they said that on the website and also there's plenty of places around to eat, very well and cheap. There's some touristic information at some folders at living room. It's in a great location , next to the Plaza Mayor and the Terminal (Bus Station). So, it would be a 'fair' place if wasn't by the Nice and amazing Staff. The Owner was very nice and caring , as much as Claudia and other people around. It really make you feel home and always helping on your needs. The towels aren't rented they lend you. Just All you need.

Hostel Rana was excellent - the husband and wife who ran it couldn't have been more helpful, their advice about transport to and from Villa de Leyva, on local restaurants and the area was perefect. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location was perfectly in between the main plaza and the bus station. The atmosphere was really warm and welcoming, although not a party hostel. Villa de Leyva is a wonderful little town with some incredible surrounding countryside and plenty of activities, with great restaurants in town - although some are quite pricey so do look around. All in thoroughly recommended.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011

This hostel has a good location in Villa de Leyva, about 2-3 blocks away from the main square. It's silence during the night and has good beds. There are only to bathrooms but since its a small place there were no lines to use them. The bathrooms located in the back of the hostel could use a little more light. The cleaness of the hostel is also vey good. There is a computer for guest use until 22h and although they say otherwise there is no breakfast included. In the early morning and during the afternoon there is a friendly dog called "Pepe" that walks around the hostel, but during the busing hours at night, when the guests arrive it is locked somewhere.
The staff is during the day is basically a cleanning lady not very skilled in english but she is very helpfull. At night (I think it is the owner) shows up and he has very good english skills and also very helpful also.
