“Busy Weekend - Facilities Dirty!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

We drove in here looking for a place to camp on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend and very quickly drove back out again. The campsite was very busy (to be expected) but the facilities were terribly dirty and untidy.

The location is fantastic and hopefully the facilities are better maintained at quieter times of the year but I couldn't have stayed on this occasion!

We stayed mid July 2012, in one of the caravans for the experience and excitement for our little boy as we all love swimming, water sports and surfing! The location was fantastic, very very central to the beach, the local pubs and resturants. The staff were friendly and very helpful! The accomadation was clean and very well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The washing machine and tumble dryer facilities were excellent, especially for wet suits!! I would 100% recommend this caravan and camping park as I think you would go far to find any better!!!!!

Husband and I stayed here last weekend in our tent, and the location is beautiful and perfectly placed. Agree that its a bit overpriced for 1 tent but the facilities are great if like me, you like to camp, but also like a shower as well! Staff member (John?) who checked us in was lovely, jovial and friendly but the female we saw the next day was not friendly at all. All in all, it was great for us and we appreciated the gorgeous location and access to toilets!

Room Tip: Pitch your tent close to the beach fences at the far side of entrance

This caravan is one of the best location parks I have stayed in. Direct access to the beach it was fantastic, Keel beach is a 3km beach and wonderful for kids. The caravan park itself was fine with electric and easy access to water. The shower blocks were not so nice - perfectly functional but I would not say they were very clean, the shower curtains are really a thing of the past and they are just unhygienic. Other than that I have no other complaints did have much of a welcome but pleasent enough....

I stayed here for a weekend with a group of friends some of whom had babies and children. The campsite location is good - most of the good reviews here seem to be reviews of Achill itself rather than the campsite! The place is overpriced for what you get, e.g. charging extra per person rather than just charging for a large tent - and charging a euro for a 4 minute shower! Toilets/shower facilities not terribly clean.
Main issue we had was the complete lack of management presence at night. A group of campers staying near us came back from the pub at 1am and proceeded to play the guitar and sing at the top of their voices (badly). Then the rest of their friends came back from the nightclub at around 4am. They continued shouting and singing until 6am. At around 6.30am, one of them stumbled out of their tent to go to the toilet, obviously got disoriented what with being completely paralytic drunk, fell on one of our tents, broke the poles and ripped the flysheet, and then urinated on one of our cars while the unfortunate person tried to extricate themselves from their ruined tent.
The next day when making a complaint, the management had the CHEEK to say "well, we heard a baby crying in one of your tents this morning"... I am serious. The child had been kept awake all night with these morons ruining the weekend for everyone else. Unbelievable.
Achill is fantastic and such a beautiful spot, but try to find somewhere else to stay than Keel Sandybanks. Unless you are one of those idiot drunkards who like to annoy everyone else.

Just recently returned from a scout camping trip. Fantastic location, very spacious. Facilities were excellent for our needs - showers, laundry, camping facilities and a rec hall. James the site manager was very friendly and treated us very well. The location is very central for surf and bike hire. lovely coffee shops, especially Blackfields (try the apple sponge cakes). the local costcutters is quite expensive but there is a very reasonable Super Valu on the island. Everyone enjoyed the trip and we will definitely be back again.
