“NEVER AGAIN !!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

We booked 1 night in this hotel 8 months in advance by the website "Travel Republic" ( I've used many times this site without any problems ) and, as per their booking conditions, they debited the amount of my reservation (€ 36,00/ 1 night on half board basis/double room )on my credit card.
Once in the hotel ( about 6,00 p.m.,coming from the airport ) the receptionist told us she couldn't find our reservation but, after asking us our voucher and i.d.cards, copying both, gave us the room key, telling everything was ok.
The room surely needs to be refurnished and, apart from bed linen and towels, looks not so clean (I've slept in hostels better than this hotel !!!), TV only with greek channels........but anyway it's just for 1 night we said !!!
After about 1 hour we decide to make a quick swim in the lovely pool (and the pool area is the only nice part !!!!) and we go downstairs ( there is no elevator in the hotel and if you've got something like a stroller, it could be a problem......but they didn't tell you on the hotel description !!!!).............meeting the receptionist she told us she didn't find our reservation and to stay there we must pay € 50,00 ( in her opinion a special discounted price because it costs € 70,00 at normal price !!!!)........after 3 hours talking with her and the manager ( by phone ) we had to pay that price and she wrote a bill to send to "Travel Republic" to be refunded ( in the same time I've talked with "Travel R." customer care and they told me to do that way).
Manager sayed they've never had contacts with "Travel Republic" and didn't matter I showed them their hotel was still selled on that site at the price of €32,00 for the same night/service !!!!
Now if you're the hotel manager and your client give you a voucher issued by a travel agency that you don't know, showing you on the web that your hotel is still on their web site and you don't care about it, but you care only to have more money from that customer that has already paied for that........well......what do you should think about that hotel ?!?!?!?
Never again !!!!
p.s.:dinner and breakfast very poor, only a buffet salad and 2 stuffed tomatoes for dinner and 1 kind of jam, milk and honey ,eggs, ham and cheese with bread for breakfats and when ham and cheese finished on the buffet they've never refill it !!!!

Room Tip: Don't go there !!!!!!!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2011

We stayed there for 10 nights at the end of August. 2 adults and 8 years old child. On the arrival we were given a double room on the site facing the road, it has sun shining almost all day, so it is pretty hot there. We have asked and were given a bigger room with "sea view" without any extra charge. The hotel is pretty basic, but clean and has everything we needed. The hotel is on the busy road, but it is surrounded by very nice garden. The swimming pool size was very OK for such a budget property, with a separate children''s section. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas around the pool, so you don't have to run early in the morning to "book" with beach towels free sunbeds, like it happens sometimes at big 5* hotels.
Rooms are very plain, but clean. C leaning lady came every day. Towels were changed every 2-3 days, bedsheets - every 5 days. No TV, no fridge in the room - the fridge could be good for extra charge. Aircon costs 5 Eur per day, or 20 euro per week.
Breakfast is the very same every day - cheese, salami, boiled eggs, tomatoes, bread, butter, toasts, cereal, juice, milk, tea. Some variety could do, but yet again, for the price we paid it was very OK. The dinner however was very nice: usually one or 2 kinds of meat of fish, 2-3 kinds of side dishes, always greek salad, sometimes some more starters, and watermelon. Everything was freshly cooked, very tasty!
We have also ordered lunch at the hotel a several times, took fish, steak, barbeque, fried calamary, pica, pasta - everything was very nice and tasty, so we liked the food very much. We always came to the beginning of dinner, so the food was hot and plenty. But I also see people eating later, and there were still plenty of food on the buffet.
The staff is helpfull. May be they do not meet you with the smile every time they see you, but whatever we needed we get it quickly. My daughter got ill there, so reception lady brought us to the private doctor next door. The visit costs 30 EUR, but the doctors daughter was so nice, so the bought and brought the necessary medication directly to our hotel.
Hote brochure says every Saturday they held Greek evening - this was not done during our stay. However there is a TV, a builjard table, some table games like chess, ect. available on reception. Also Internet is available for extra charge.
The beach - this is a sad story. Naroow strip of pebbles, not very clean. Three old umbrellas and few broken sunbeds. But there was shower there. The beach is 5 minutes walk from the hotel, used mostly by locals, but most of the time there is no one there. Unfortunately peole do not clean their rubbish, inspite of rubbish bin standing there, so we usually started our beach day by cleaning around.
The center of Tolos is 20 minutes walk on a busy road. It could be quite dangerous walking in the darkness. There are few shopd and supermarkets, 3 car rentals. No tour agencies or diving centers.
Opposite direction there is a taverna aproximately 10 minutes walk from the hotel, and a bit further a kiosk, where one can buy water, juices or sandwiches.
Public bus stop is near the hotel, the bus goes to Rhodes via airport. Bus schedule is available at the hotel.
Airplane noise can be heard, but we got very quickly used to it and was not bothered. The planes do not fly between midnight and 4-5 in the morning. We liked sit on the beach watching the planes leave the island.
The hotel is a good place as starting point to explore the island. I would definitely recommend it for those who can value simple things.

Room Tip: just ask the reception and be generally nice to local people

Just returned home from an 8 night stay at this hotel. Overall we had a very pleasant hoiday, from previous posts we knew what to expect so were not dissapointed. Don't expect 5 star comfort in a budget hotel. The rooms were basic and on the small side but very clean, the towels were changed at least 5 times during our visit and the bed linnen changed 3 times.
The food was adequate' but no choice, and I hope we did not offend anyone when both my wife and I just could not even try the chicken curry.
The pool area is the best feature of the hotel really nice and clean and at this time of year very few people using it.
Staff were very friendly and more than helpfull.
The two downers as previuosly reported are the close proximity to the airport and the noise of the aircraft ( take ear plugs we did it helps), and secondly the 20 min' walk to the village on a badly lit busy road ( take a torch).
Overall we got what we paid for and had a very nice time, but as this was our second visit to Rhodes last one ten years ago I don't think we will return.

Stayed here for 12 days in Aug 2011. Half Board, food very basic and no real choice, advise if you stay here only have B&B. Be prepared to fork out for AirCon, you cannot do without it! Dont have problem paying for it, but was not aware beforehand and 5 euros a day. Biggest problems are too close to airport (lots of noise) and you are in the middle of nowhere on a very busy main road with very little lighting at night and no pavements to speak of and an arduous walk in the heat to nearest shop or restaurant - but Billy's is well worth the trip!!
on the whole hol was no more than OK but Rhodes is a beautifull island and well worth a visit - just maybe not this hotel - having said that the staff were very pleasant.

Room Tip: in another hotel!!!!!!!

This hotel is on a busy main road ,its 20 min walk to nearest shops.Nico is happy to give guests a lift to nearby reataurants.mikes is a lovely greek taverna the food is excellent and it is evenly priced.
We were half board at the hotel although we ate out most nights as their is no choice on what you get for dinner.Breakfast is ok,continental style. No food available for lunch or snacks only ice cream.
The rooms are basic but clean.very hard to sleep as airport only 3km so flights goin out all the time.Mosquitos are rampant so be prepared.
The pool area is wonderful and spacious and clean.
No entertainment i feel hotel lacks a little atmosphere. But if you are looking for a relaxing time this is the place to go.
Car hire would be an advantage to get to the nicer beaches.
Met some lovely people which really helped,a week here is enough.

We stayed at the savelen for a week in aug 2011, it was a late deal half board and on the whole we were pretty please, there were a few things that let it down like the lack of hot water luckly it was so hot a cold one was quite refreshing! the staff were very polite and friendly but did not go out of there way to help we tried to hire a car through them but were told there were none available for that day, I asked if they knew any where else and was told no only to find out a few days later there a three hire car companies down the road. The food was excellent you dont get a choice in the eve just a starter and what ever main is on offer but you can help yourself and eat as much as you like, breakfast was a choice of cereal, yought, boiled eggs bread cheese and ham plenty and nice. The hotel is a bit in the middle of no where but there is a bus stop right outside with a regular service to rhodes, we just found if you wanted to go somewhere different of a evening it was a 20 min walk to get to other bars/resturants down a busy badly lit road so take a tourch! the hotel is quite small and the pool and grounds are rreally lovely well kept and clean there is plenty of room to eat outside and the resturant area is very relaxed and tables not on top of each other. We had a great late deal hol and would go back to rhodes and the savelen.

Room Tip: If you can ask for a room at the back or side of the hotel get a sea or pool view

Have just returned from this 2* hotel. Unfortuneately this hotel has two major disadvantages they cannot alter- the location and the loud aircraft noise regularly day and night. The hotel was "overbooked" when we arrived in the early hours of the morning so spent our first night in a basement room with a tiny window next to the road. We had to insist on a change of room the next day and was given one overlooking the gardens at the back, which was fine. The towels and sheets were changed regularly thoughout the week. They seem to "overbook" frequently as there were people being trasferred to other hotels regularly. We had a 20 minute walk to the nearest tavern/shop along a busy road with a pavement for a small part of the way. The beach was a 5 minute walk away form the hotel and was surprised to see hotel sunbeds there although most of them were broken. The beach is not up to much, but the sea was nice. The bus stops outside the hotel were handy for Rhodes and to take you up the hill to the lovely resteraunt in the village of Theologos. The pool area was fine but a lot of the sunbeds were broken and there was no need for a towel job first thing in the morning as there were always free beds. We were half board and the food was ok. Some days there was no hot breakfast (cold boiled eggs) or evening meal, but there was always plenty bread and rolls.
We made the most of our weeks stay here and enjoyed the sun, but would not return. They could do a lot to improve this very average hotel but we did get what we paid for in this 2* hotel. This was an extra late deal holiday for us and the short airport transfer (5 minutes by taxi or a short bus trip) appealled to us. We did not realise we would b quite so near the airport. The staff were fine and our 2 day car hire allowed us to vist Falaraki, Lindos and many other lovely places on the island, but the petrol was much dearer than ours.

Room Tip: Room facing the back.
