“Relaxed atmosphere and great place to chill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the friendly and dedicated service.
The wooden huts are very cosy and meals in the restaurant were all super delicious!!

A bungalow with AC is recommended as it is hot at night.

We were attracted to Tiewson because of it's beach huts & we weren't disappointed. Great huts metres from the beach. You know before you visit that it's not the best beach on the island for swimming but when the tide is high that's not a problem. Also, in our case, it's good to have an excuse to rent bikes and explore the rest of this beautiful & less visited island. Even if the tide is low you can just lie back on the sunbeds provided and enjoy the scenery in this blissful part of the planet. Excellent service, delicious food and friendly staff. If you could hang your hammock on the porch of your hut you may never want to leave (but you can't hang your hammock).

This is a lovely little resort with 3 rows of accommodation parallel to the sea. The first row, closest to the sea is the most expensive and largest, the next row, where we stayed, had aircon, an outdoor shower, TV, Mosquito net and was very tastefully done, the 3rd tier, we didn't look at, but from memory only had a fan.

The owner is a lovely man, very friendly, but doesn't budge an inch when it comes to bargaining. We tried to get the price down on the rooms and also on the motorbike rental, but power to him, he didn't move. Not that the accommodation was expensive, but it's always fun to try and negotiate a better deal.

The food was really good in the restaurant, and the setting is lovely - a great place to watch the sunrise, as you're facing East to Krabi. I got some wonderful shots here of the sun rising up above the Karst islands that you look out to.

Although this place is right on the beach, they are more mud-flats than sandy paradisical pristine waters that you come to expect in Thailand. To be honest, though, for us, this didn't matter, as we'd been to a lot of beaches by this stage, and also hired a motorbike to head to the good beaches on other parts of the island. I did try to go in, all the same, but the ground underfoot was very squelchy and far too shallow even to dunk yourself - 100m out and I was still only knee deep.

We loved Koh Yao Yai, very peaceful and beautiful and real. When we return I would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: The second tier rooms are great value and very comfortable, and I think represent better value than...

The view is amazing, Bungalows are nice only to close to each other.
Food is good but not cheap.
Swimming in the sea is impossible, there is no water, at 16.00 its getting dark
and rain starts together with a lot of mosquito's and all what you can do is look and smell
the mud and get bitten.
I learned there is only one nice beach in Koh Yao Yai good for swimming and watch the sunset
Loh Pared Beach on the West coast is the place to be for relax, cocktails, swimming and watch the sailing boats parked in the bay.
There are 2 Resorts in Loh Pared Beach one New opening 5 star in December 2012 Santiya Resort and Spa and Yao Yai Resort directly on the beach.
Twison Bungalow is way overrated and sea view is over the border on your toes from your Balcony.

Room Tip: Look at the West Coast from Koh Yao Yai and not East Coast where its always raining for a place to...

we booked for the beach front deluxe in the website the pictures shown only two best rooms on the beach, but when we arrived there, there are bigger empty building which they said it's belong to the owner, situate next too us. we are the family of 4 adults and 1 child. we booked two month in advance with a request of futon or extra beds. but when we arrive they said there are no extra bed. this drop our heart immediately and we decide to checkout the very next morning. i wish they could improve on personal touch or anticipating our needs so we could have stay longer, however i have a non bias conclusion for this place:

Pro: spacious room and bath room, right on the beach, Thai food excellent.
con: poor service, very pricey on charging. staff performance was bad when we were pick up from the pier, and drivers drove very fast and bad manners.

We visited for lunch as part of our Amazing Bike Tours package. Setting - fantastic! Right on the beach, nothing else there except the accommodation and restaurant. Very clean and everything in good repair. Great views. We had four dishes as part of our lunch and alcohol was available. Food authentic, abundant. As an earlier reviewer commented when talking about the accommodation - the people were pleasantly indifferent. No-one was rude, but no-one was especially friendly either. Perhaps they are a bit undecided as to whether they really want to share their home with tourists. However, as stated, clean, glorious food, you can have a beer or whatever and would we go back again independently if it wasnt part of a package? - maybe for the food alone, but a little warmth and friendliness wouldnt go amiss.

Room Tip: We reviewed the restaurant only

We hadn't planned on visiting Koh Yao Yai, and hadn't even heard of it. The tourist crowds of Railay Beach led us to cut our visit short and search for a more isolated place. Twison resort was exactly what we were looking for. It is quite isolated, and as other reviewers have said, there is not very much to do on the island because it's not catered to tourists as much as other places in Thailand. This is to it's advantage.

It's a wonderful place to relax, and has gorgeous views of the ocean with massive uninhabited islands to gaze at on the horizon. They have two kayaks that guests are free to use. We tried to paddle to one of the islands but our skills weren't up to par. The waterfront has nice lounge chairs and a hammock to lay in. I could not get enough of peeking at the crabs who were all busy at work in the sand. The beach seems largely untouched by humans which was very special.

Our bungalow was beautiful, we stayed in one of the ocean view rooms. The outdoor showers were a lovely perk, as was the couch. We felt very much at home here. This was also due to the immensely sweet staff. Bam and Dam (sp?) were very accommodating and friendly. Dam was waiting for us at the pier when we arrived. Bam walked my husband and I up to their pasture across the road from the resort so we could see their water buffalo, "Robo Cop" :) up close.

The food is very delicious here, though there are not as many vegetarian options as other resorts we visited. Thankfully, their Green Curry was really wonderful so we didn't mind eating it almost every day :).

If you're looking to escape to paradise I highly recommend this resort!
