“first stays with our newborn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Stayed there with my wife and a newborn baby

We received a deligthfull welcome , and where greated by a helpfull and friendly staff

Everyone was friendly and helpfull and even in restaurant where the presence of a newborn is not always seen positively we where found a restfull and calm place where we coudl enjoy the menu and not disturb anyone to

Room was perfectly matching the atmosphere of the place , vintage , clean , quiete as we wanted

We had the chance to chat with the owner and his view of service and quality he consider as natural is a real pleasure

we walked along his natural plants, vegetables and herbs to find it clean and well maintained

nothing negative to mention

regards
Eric

A terrible stay from start to finish. Once we eventually found the hotel the car grounded on the huge bump in the gateway, damaging the exhaust. No-one helped with the bags, so we lugged them in ourselves and reported to reception where the woman there started serving us, then answered the ringing phone, and kept us waiting there for a full ten minutes while she chattered away. Then, when she finally finished, unbelievably she made another call! This was too much so we enquired how long she was going to keep us waiting, to which she just gave us a stare like we were inconveniencing her.
Finally, when she eventually checked us in, she called the bell boy to show us to our room, who then took the key, said "this way" and walked off down the corridor, not even offering to help us with our luggage! Awful service all round! Then when we got to our room, we had been given a double room when we had asked for a twin, so we then had to sit out in the corridor while we waited for the chambermaids to come and re-dress the beds.
The bathroom was no better, as there was no shower curtain, and the shower cable hung into the bath, with absolutely no place to put it, so you had to sit on it while having a bath!
But the worst part were the awful grounds! Described as being set in a beautiful 10-acre garden with a charming lake, this can only be described as a lie! The tennis court looked dilapidated at best, and the grounds were the most depressing I have ever seen at a supposed hotel de charme. The so called lake was disgusting, and smelled even worse, and looked like it had some sort of sewage running into it - I took pictures to prove it!
Overall the stay was just awful, and we absolutely could not wait to leave. Maybe we were just unlucky, but I don't think so, as there were just too many problems, from the rude unfriendly staff, to the dreadful grounds. This is the first negative review I have ever left, but in this case, it is fully deserved!

Room Tip: Pick a room at a different hotel!

This was a Christmas break for me, my husband and our dog Louis. This is our second visit and I only have our pure Thanks, Gratitude and Kindness to the All Management, Staff and Chef Jean Constant.

It was unfortunate that my husband was taken ill over the Christmas time but everyone at La Chartreuse was considerate and understanding under the circumstances.

La Chartreuse is a haven of tranquility and peacefulness and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are excellent, comfortable and have all the amenities. This hotel allows well behaved dogs and even Louis knew his way around by the end of the stay. He was welcomed everywhere in the hotel and made friends with many of the guests and staff!

The food is superb, gastronomic and extremely well presented by all three restaurants. The Robert II is exceptional as is their other two restaurants Le Vasco and also the Distillerie also extremely pleasant. Chef Constant always makes a point of trying to visit you at your table at Robert II at some point when he can which is extremely personal and welcoming; it makes a world of difference.

This is located on a quiet part of Gosnay but not far from the shops and has wonderful grounds to walk along with the surrounding area.

Although a little at the high end of costs, you most definitely get what you pay for. We would not hesitate to return back here and again we cannot fault La Chartreuse.

Room Tip: FYI, I think they locate guests with pets on the ground floor which is nearest to the doors leading...

Really well located for a short hop from the Eurotunnel, this is an excellent option for an overnight treat given the range of dining options. But during a wet and windy long weekend, the hotel's lack of relaxing communal areas, the sparseness of the gym, the absence of so much as a movie channel and the need to transfer buildings for anything but the Gastronomy restaurant left us feeling a little un-entertained - then there was the location! We'd read other reviews re the high cost/less than great breakfast value, however the distance we had to travel for an authentic alternative was quite impractical. So having selected the 'petit dejeuner light' option in our room at €5 per head on Day 2, imagine our surprise to find that was only a cup of coffee - not even a biscuit as accompaniment. Don't get me wrong, had the weather been better and we'd had the option to get out and about during the day, I'm sure the overall experience would have felt much less lacking, but I think visitors should be aware of the shortfalls if weather might be an issue.

Room Tip: Note to travellers selecting the Deluxe room - the 'extra large' bed option must measure 7...

Our stay at the hotel was fantastic. It was easy to find and everything about this hotel matched the description on their website. The hotel is seeped in history, our room was beautifully decorated, clean and cozy. The dinner in the Robert II restaurant was truly a gastronomic delight from starter to desert. The wine list was extensive and offered something for everyone's taste and budget. Overall, the hotel offers an excellent price - quality ratio. We will certainly recommend this hotel to anyone journeying in France.

Room Tip: Room 115 was well situated and of an excellent standard.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and dinner was very special.
The setting was perfect and the very pleasant staff managed the impossible by always being there when wanted and invisible when not. The food was divine, even the vegetarian option was lovely.
Would definitely recommend and we will be returning – hopefully sometime soon!

We stayed overnight before going to a wine fair in Lille. It's a large building and slightly lacking in warmth but the staff are helpful and rooms are well appointed and clean. Our group of 6 were all very pleased with the restaurant, the service was very efficient and the cooking excellent. The wine list was extensive and looked expensive but our selection of premier cru Chablis and Bandol proved to be really top wines and compared very favourably with other restaurants and hotels where such prices do not always guarantee a good wine. After dinner coffee and digestifs were taken in the bar and that also proved to be a great experience with an entertaining bar steward.
Next time we need a hotel fairly close to Calais we'll definitely go again not expecting a low cost but prepared to pay a fair amount for a superb dining experience. We had taken advantage of low rates for non-refundable advanced booking which worked well for us, not so good, obviously, if you have to change your plans at the last minute. The receptionist told us that for warm summer evenings the restaurant serves outside on the terrace. We might time our next trip to try that.

Room Tip: Book in advance if you are sure of your plans and enjoy a lower room rate. The larger rooms are very...
