“Pleasant hotel above lake”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2014

We stayed here for three nights recently.

-- Location: The hotel is quite secluded and is not ideal for those looking for the convenience of a town, but it took us only half an hour to reach the coast. Olbia airport is also not far away.
-- Room: Semi-detached cabin on the slopes, cleverly designed to make you think that it's a detached building. Small seating area outside, with usual ant/mosquito population. Bed was quite comfortable, but not so the quaint traditional metal furniture (shock of cold metal on bare legs!) - perhaps larger cushions might help. Safe wasn't working - didn't report this until we checked out.
-- Bathroom: Decent size, but shower temperature fluctuates wildly unless you turn up the flow to maximum, which I was reluctant to do.
-- Grounds: Nice gardens and attractive pool which I am told was very cold, which is to be expected in September. Some extra lighting down the steps to the cabins would have been welcome as it really was dangerously dark at the top and bottom.
-- Food: Generally OK, though to our taste buds Sardinian food is often overly salted. Avoid anything with batter or a crust, and you'll be alright. Make sure you order at breakfast or when you check in, otherwise you may be wondering why people who arrived at dinner after you are being served first :)
-- Staff: Friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Try to get a cabin with a view of the lake. Ours only had a tiny glimpse of it.

We spent our honeymoon at Aldiola and were more than happy with the experience. We were welcomed warmly and with a cute little surprise in our hotel room to celebrate our wedding. The staff (at reception, during breakfast, dinner and allday long) were very polite, friendly, helpful and always had a smile on their faces. The hotel lies within a very scenic landscape with a beautiful view across Lago di Liscia. The pool area is amazing with comfortable chairs and umbrellas. The rooms are located in double bungalows. However, we did not see our neighbours at all and simply loved the privacy. Everything, starting from the reception area to the pool to our room was very clean and very well kept.

We had chosen the hotel due to its secluded location and its promised quietness and found exactly what we had been looking for: a place to relax and re-charge our batteries after all the wedding craziness.

However, if you stay at Aldiola, a car is absolutely necessary - especially if you, like us, plan on visiting the beautiful beaches in the area. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get to a beach (try Capriccioli beach with its clearblue water). However, the travel and time is definitely worth it - the stay at Aldiola Country Resort made our honeymoon perfect and unforgettable.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

Having spent 4 nights in Olbia, we drove to Aldiola Country Resort for the final 5 nights of our stay in Sardinia. And we weren't disappointed. It really is a beautiful place. The views are outstanding, the lake is beautiful and we had perfect weather which made it even better. However, the place wasn't without its faults.

The room itself was lovely and clean, spacious with lovely views but the bathroom was very sub-standard. The shower was poor quality, constantly leaking and freezing cold at about 6pm when others may also have been having a shower. We were given two small complimentary bottles of shower gel/shampoo which were never replaced once finished which was slightly frustrating.

The pool area was exceptionally clean and nice, the pool itself was beautiful and the sun loungers were lovely quality and very comfortable. But there were a couple of children also staying at the resort who were a little noisy at times and really took away from the relaxation we were hoping for.

Because the resort is out of the way we decided to stay in each night and eat dinner on site. The food really is lovely, however it is incredibly overpriced in terms of what is expected in Sardinia. Maybe others dont notice how expensive the prices are but because we had previously stayed at Hotel Panorama in Olbia we were aware of the reasonably priced food and drink around. The wine is good but again, very overpriced.

Overall the resort is lovely, but there were a few small things that let the overall experience down.

Although the resort is rather out of the way, that's why I picked it! You definitely need a car to stay here.

My boyfriend and I had 4 nights here and we wish it had been longer as we really loved it. We were welcomed at 11:30pm with a drink of our choice by a lovely receptionist. Our room was spacious and cosy and despite the hotel being busy we barely saw and certainly didn't hear anyone else when we were in our room or sitting on the patio outside.

The food was delicious. So much so we had two meals there. Breakfast each morning was scrummy- all freshly baked and local produce.

Pool was rather chilly but nice and pool area not crowded. Good selection of snacks throughout the day.

If you are looking for a romantic break with no children in sight- this is it. Well be back for sure, just perfect.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We have just returned from a weeks' stay at the Aldiola Country Resort and we had a very pleasant time.

The staff were all very personable and friendly, we received a warm welcome every morning for breakfast and they were happy to give us information on where to visit in the local area. Booking online and subsequent check in and check out were fast and efficient, the service was personal and the staff we dealt with always remembered who we were and which room we were in.

We stayed in a partial lake view room, which is exactly as the name suggests. The room was clean and tidy, quite basic with a bed (comfy), shower (good water pressure/temperature), loo, bidet and large basin. Hair dryer, Nespresso coffee machine and fridge (included mini bar but large enough to store your own water botttles etc.) Sky TV in the room with a mixture of English speaking and Italian/French/German/Spanish channels. There was air conditioning but we did not need this during our visit in late September/early October. Probably could have done with more plug sockets, the only available ones were underneath the desk (which meant unplugging the fridge or coffee machine) and there was one in the bathroom too.

The resort has a lovely peaceful feel to it, with the rooms being several 'semi-detached' bungalows laid out apart from one another, facing the lake. (The walls between rooms are quite thin however, but as most people are getting up at the same time to get breakfast we didn't find this too bothersome). To get to the room was a slight walk through the gardens (watch out for little spiders and flies!). We were helpfully given a torch as the path is not fully lit. I did manage to stub my toes a couple of times on the steps before I go fully used to the route! They could probably do with painting the edges of all the steps (and not just some of them) with a white tip to avoid stumbles. There is a novel outdoor gym which was unused every day, but it faces the lake and is a nice idea. Free Wifi available in the communal areas but not in the rooms - would be a nice idea if the signal was extended to the rooms!

As we visited out of season, the pool area was very quiet, the day we chose to have a 'pool day' we had it all to ourselves. There are about 20 sun loungers around the pool, plus table and chairs for the bar area. I imagine in peak season it could get quite busy. The pool is not heated so we didn't take a dip, however some brave Germans seemed to manage the temperature okay!

Breakfast was included in the price so we enjoyed a continental feast every morning. Bacon and eggs available on request, although we stuck to fruit and pastries. The pastries were absolutely delicious!

We did have dinner one night and found the food to be very tasty, if not on the expensive side. Every morning you are provided with information on the 4 course menu (changes daily) and you can choose your options for that night. We only had three courses and found the portions quite small considering the price - drinks (no wine but local beer and soft drinks) and coffee included it came to nearly 70 euros. We had a comparable meal in a small town about 30 mins away later on in the week and it came to only 50 euros, and that was with a tip too!!

As the resort is pretty much out in the sticks on its own (although as other reviewers have said, it is well signposted from the main roads and we had no problems finding it) you will definitely need a vehicle to get around in. The only eating option is the hotel and I would recommend trying it but also sampling some of the restaurants within the local area (see some of my other reviews). Car parking was ample and the car park is locked at night so your vehicles are quite safe (they give you a code to unlock the gate should you go out for the evening and come back late).

All in all this hotel was exactly what we expected it to be, relaxing and tranquil and right in the middle of the beautiful Sardinian countryside. Price was quite agreeable when we went (out of season). We would recommend it to those who want a nice peaceful, quiet break.

If you are looking for a rural retreat in a stunning setting then this could be the place for you. The hotel is very remote overlooking the lake of Liscia. It is well signposted from the surrounding roads so finding it should not be too much of a challenge. The views from the pool area across the lake are really beautiful. You must have a car if you stay here. The breakfast and the evening meals are of a very high standard. Indeed, the breakfast is the best I have ever had anywhere in Italy. We did not take the fixed menu but chose a la carte each evening, mostly because we did not wish to eat a four course meal. All the meals we had were well prepared and very tasty. The rooms are OK - they are simply furnished and quite traditional in style. They are very spacious and very private, however I do think more could be done to make them more comfortable. For example a small sitting area in the bedroom would be great. The bathroom was also very spacious, again I think more could have been made of the space to include a bath. Wifi does not reach the rooms, which is something the hotel should invest in as the reception area is very small and can get crowed if there are more than 2 - 3 couples sitting there. We stayed in September and the weather was not great, rain one day, and then a very cool wind for the rest of the time which meant we were unable to dine outside or make use of the pool. The service was generally very good. All staff were friendly and helpful. However, there seemed to be an element of inflexibility with one member of staff. We arrived at around 3pm just after the kitchen had closed. We had driven for nearly 5 hours from Cagliari in pouring rain and asked if we could get some lunch (anything - bread, cheese, cold meat, would have been fine) however the receptionist just said no, the kitchen is closed. We asked what we could do, she suggested that we wait until dinner at 19:30 or drive back to the nearest village and have something in bar - so that is what we did. On our final evening - the same receptionist also said we could not pay by credit card for our evening meal as she had already calculated our bill for departure the next day - and it would be difficult for her calculations??!!. She eventually said it would be OK to pay by card, but it would need to be on a separate bill. That was fine, but she should never have said no in the first place. Aside from these issues with this one member of staff, everything else about the stay was good.

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel our 1st was in 2010, and were pleased to find that it was still tranquil and peaceful. The location is idyllic and our chalet room had a lovely view overlooking the lake. The rooms are large and very comfortable and have coffee making facilities. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and coped with our Italian very well.
The food served in the restaurant at night was typical Sardinian dishes the set menu had 4 courses and a choice from at least 3 dishes per course. There was also an a la carte menu which was again good. For the majority of the holiday we had our meals outside on the terrace overlooking the pool it was only on our last night that we were unable to dine outside.
Definitely will return as we find it so relaxing and come back refreshed.
You do need a car if wishing to visit places locally as the hotel is not located in the village.

Room Tip: We had a superior room as they have views overlooking the lake and were higher up giving a better vi...
