“Not for me”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

I was really looking forward to our stay here but it kind of left me a bit disappointed. The apartments are in a great location and the little interaction I had with the staff they seem very nice and friendly.

Our room was big but I wasn't impressed with the standard of the cooker. Bathroom was on a bit of the small side and it smelt like the sewer. If we forgot to shut the bathroom door it would stink the whole room out.

The big thing for me that I didn't like was the fact that everything is SALT WATER. The pool, showers, tap water etc. I did know this before i stayed here but not before I booked. I spent 10 days here and never once felt clean. After a few days we decided to start using the pool at the Donna Amalia apartments next door which was fresh water and always very quiet.

If salt water doesn't bother you then you will enjoy it here but from speaking to people around the village and just by way of sight I think there are many better places to stay in Kassiopi than here.

My family stayed for a fortnight in August 2012 in a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartment had 2 separate rooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. The apartment also had a seperate kitchenette, bathroom and had 3 balconies. One of these balconies overlooked the pool. This was absolutely perfect for my family. The accommodation was basic but extremely clean and had the bedding and towels changed twice per week. We were delighted with the stay, the location is perfect, the pool was brilliant for my children and everything was a short stroll away. No mad scramble for sunbeds and everything was very relaxing. We booked directly with Spiros and saved a fortune based on typical brochure prices. The staff were all lovely and we'd be delighted to recommend this place as a lovely place to stay, even the bar snacks were good value.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 505. Very good for families!

We stayed at the Philippos Hotel for 2 weeks in August 2012, we are in our 20's and loved it! Its location is ideal, 1 minute walk from main street with plenty of restaurants etc, but situated far back enough to be peaceful. 5 further minute walk to Kassiopi Harbour and a further 5 minutes to the beach.

The rooms are basic but perfectly fine for what we needed, did not cook in the room once as local restaurants and pool bar so cheap. Beds rather un-comfy after 14 nights and had to push two singles together however still okay. Balcony overlooking the central walkway and could see the pool. Very quiet at night. Safety deposit boxes available in reception for about 10 euros a week, air con was included for us as we booked through Expedia.

Great swimming pool (quite salty), but very big and 3 metres deep at the deep end. smaller round pool for children. Never any problem with getting a sun bed, no annoying people reserving them, even in the afternoon, plenty free. The pool bar is brilliant! Cheap drink and cheap food and wonderful, friendly service. We would always have a drink before we went out for dinner and after when we came back even at 1/2am some nights.

Kassiopi is beautiful and would definitely recommend it! We were there for a family wedding, 25 people in total and it suited everyone. Plenty of restaurants to choose from each night, our favourites were Sousouro (down a side street near the scuba dive shop) and Petrino's in the harbour. It's worth a walk up to the old ruin to see the view and a look in the little church. A must-see is the greek dancing at Kosta's bar on the main street. Reserve a table the day before to make sure you get a seat for the dancing at 10pm. One of our best nights out! We also hired a boat from Fillipos Boats in the harbour. We looked at doing an excursion type trip but the people looked like they were herded on like cattle and had no space to move around and no flexibility in what they did. Instead we paid 60 euros for our own boat from 9.30-4.30 and had a brilliant day, well worth the money! the boat could have seated 6/7 but at a squeeze, ideal for 2-4 people for the day. We spent the day finding coves and quiet beaches, anchor down and jumping off the boat, far better than the mass boat trips being offered!

Try the beach directly underneath Trilogia restaurant, not as busy as the first beach and alot quieter. We had a little explore and found a tiny beach hidden away, go past Virginia's place snack bar to the right of the harbour and follow the footpath.

Overall a beautiful place and would recommend to anyone!!

We stayed at the Philippos hotel in early august for two weeks. Spiros arranged a pick up at airport which was waiting for us and he welcomed us to our room late at night. Clean, spacious and well built. I can't thank the staff (Spiros, Steff and Jenny) enough - they are so friendly accommodating, hard working and kind. Always there to help and always made us feel safe and welcome.

Accommodation - large spacious clean rooms. Air-conditioning in both rooms. Kitchen basic but good enough to make pasta and basic dishes. The kitchen was part of the main room. The tap water is salty so do not use for cooking/drinking. Large fridge. Beds, on the hard side but sheets and pillows very clean. Shower (on top floor) had plenty of pressure and we never ran out of hot water in our two week stay. Plenty of wardrobe space. Balcony overlooking pool.

Hotel pool and pool bar - The complex is really well designed, safe and nicely laid out. Considering the amount of people staying, it never felt busy. Reception always helpful (thanks Jenny), well organised. The pool is the best I've seen on holiday. The water is slightly salty but is it so much better for your skin than the usual heavily chlorinated pools. It’s a huge pool and cleaned professionally every couple of day. Plenty of loungers and the friendly Albanian chef (and Spiros) serve great food. People who enjoy cooking and enjoy their food. Very clean. Omelettes and salads were always fresh and tasty. Very good prices too. Only thing to watch out for is mosquitoes at dusk by the bar. Just get yourself some Deet - they are tiny but leave nasty bites. June is apparently the worse time for this.

Resort - Kassiopi is relatively quite compared to other resorts on Corfu. Calm and friendly fishing port/village. There are some beautiful beaches only a short walk from harbour, head left and up the hill and in 10 minutes you are at Bataria Beach - there are also a few coves hidden away near the beach. There are plenty of beaches 10 to 15 minutes walk from resort, so worth exploring. It is a stunning beach surround by rocks for diving, fishing and exploring. The main Kassiopi beach had clear water but a bit run down. We tried to hire boats from Phillopos boats but they were fully booked and unorganised, so we let it go - so book at least a week in advance. Loads of boat trips - all well organised. East coast, lazy day and Corfu by night were great - my daughters first chance to see the Milky Way. The boat trips were 15 to 20 Euros so great value. You can keep an eye on weather and book the boat trips first thing in the morning. The sea can get choppy in afternoon particularly on the north of the island. Favourite fishing spot, a little north of Bataria Beach on some rocks. Plenty of good walking and exploring to do just take plenty of water, sunscreen and hats.

Resort restaurants - Plenty of restaurants serving Greek and continental food. I'll review these separately but my two favourite were Petrinos (near the harbour) and Janis (near the main kassiopi beach), both had consistently good food, friendly and clean - the only negative about the Janis was the long wait for food - just be prepared if it looks busy and chill out and enjoy the view. The middle ranking Sousouro, great food but too many tables. The worse ranking - The Three (miserable) Brothers and the strofillia taverna, that later being let down by grease and salt in food. Plenty of bars, these are all down to personal taste, some with music, some with sport and some quite with lovely views.

Cost of holiday - We booked the hotel and flights direct. We just wanted to make sure that we got the right hotel, room and dates. Our experience with package holidays companies is that they will move you at last minute if they overbook, this has never happened with direct bookings. It cost about the same as a package but not waiting around at airport and three hour journey on coach, in our room within 1 hour of landing. About 60 Euros a night for accommodation (two beds) and £380 each for flight with EasyJet. Food is expensive as on most Greek resorts, similar prices as eating out in London. I'm not sure the euro has done the Greeks any favours, particularly when it comes to tourism. It seemed just as pricey as when we went three years ago. It is not clear what will happen to the Euro - Greece may keep it, change to drachma or use another new currency. One thing for sure is that the uncertainty is doing more damage, it is hard for Greeks to withdraw money as people are moving their Euros out of Greece as they worry (rightly so) that the banks are simply going to run out of money. Just make sure you holiday insurance is up to scratch if you book a holiday for next year. It is a hard and worrying time for the Greeks.

Airport - Arrive early for check in. What are they thinking? You queue to check in, another separate queue to x-raying suitcases and then another separate queue for x-ray hand and personal belongings - 2 hours in queues one going out of airport.

We had a great time and yes I would go back to Kassiopi in a couple of years and definitely book the Phiippos hotel. We were spoilt by the staff, great weather and lovely beaches.

This hotel is perfect for families, couples and groups

The swimming pool is lovely and has a pool side bar/restaurant which serves good food at a very reasonable price

The rooms have everything you need but we didn't cook at all during our stay as the poolside restaurant was that good we ate there

The port is a very short walk (2mins) and has a wide range of bars and restaurants

Our second year running at Philippos and we had a lovely holiday yet again. Room 607 was very spacious with great views. Liked having the bar open later, good to have a drink following a meal out. Spiros, Steff and Jenny all brilliants hosts. We will be back, Kassiopi is beautiful.
