“Wow - great for all ages!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

We rode the trail from Kopu bridge to Paeroa and then up and down the gorge - it was fabulous and the gorge section was amazing - especially the tunnel. You hardly realise you are going uphill but on the way down the tunnel is such fun - you don't even need to peddle.
The children loved the victoria battery for hide and seek.
We will definitely do this again.

“An easy, pleasant weekend ride.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We rode with a group of friends from Thames to Waikino, staying overnight at Waihi Beach. The next day we rode from Waikino to Te Aroha. By far the best part of the trail is through the Karangahake Gorge. Make sure you stop to walk some of the trails through there (particularly the tunnel walk) and to read up on some of the history on the boards along the track.
The ride through the 1.1km tunnel can be a bit disconcerting if you are claustrophobic (as some of our group were). It is dimly lit (a torch is recommended) and a bit slippery near the sides.
Overall a nice easy ride with some interesting historical highlights and some nice places to stop and take in refreshments along the way.

“Improvements to trail make the experience much more enjoyable.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Rode this trail just after it officially opened and although it was enjoyable - barriers designed to keep motorbikes out made it extremely frustrating and we needed to get off our bikes way too often.
This time we were wrapt to find all the metal barriers have been removed between Te Aroha and Karangahake/Waikino and replaced with cattle stops, leaving cyclist free to peddle through and not having to alight at every crossing. Well done! The weeds are starting to take over not far outside Te Aroha - Council could spray these now before they really get out of control. All in all a much smoother faster ride & more enjoyable the 2nd time round. The small towns close to the trail appear to be doing well with the added tourist business.

“Easy, enjoyable riding.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

Did the trip from Waikino to Paeroa and back today. Nice easy riding on well formed paths with some interesting historical sites around Victoria Battery. A great ride for the whole family and we'll definitely be back.

“Great ride”

Great fun and an easy ride. The Waikino Gorge part is the most interesti.g and best part of the ride.
