“An oasis in Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2012

My partner and I just returned from 8 days at Salines Garden Cottages. On an island where superlatives rule; the Best, the Biggest, the most Expensive, SGC takes the prize of most welcoming and best value. The beauty of this tropical haven created by Jean-Philipe and his wife is that it is intimate and interactive. The five named cottages, each with their own personality, become your "home away from home". As the attentive host, Jean-Philipe makes you feel a part of his micro-community. From the introductions made at the communal breakfast table or the conversations over an evening cocktail, we were engaged with other interesting guests from around the globe. Whether they be American, Argentinian or Italian, friendships were made while enjoying the essence of St Barth without breaking the bank.

By many standards, Salines Garden Cottage may not be considered fancy. For us, however, the serene natural beauty, intimate size and overall friendliness, were added benefits that go beyond the criteria of a typical 5-star rating for a vacation in a place that is truly paradise.

We cannot wait to return!

We went to St Barts on the spur of the moment, from St Martin. We were very lucky to find a room here. Rates are very reasonable for expensive St Barts. Wonderful location a few minutes from the best beach on the island. Secluded spot, with lovely garden and comunal areas. Rooms very clean, kitchenettes very well equipped. Pool nice and clean, even though there are a lot of overhanging bushes and trees. Continental breakfast included in the price. Jean Philippe very accomodating and pleasant. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Would we return to these cottages? Always the key question. Yes. Yes. YES.

Why? The combination of simplicity and good taste. The high, white, wooden ceilings
are a pleasure for the eye when you stretch out in your large, comfortable, and impeccably
impeccably clean bed. Your private forest. Birds at breakfast.

The ambiance. Sociable, but not intrusive. The pleasure of interesting, witty neighbors.

The location. Easy access to several of the best beaches and, just over a hill to Gustavia,
the airport, and to restaurants and grocery stores. For our two week stay, we were happy
to have a kitchenette.

Laurence and Jean-Philippe. Met at the boat on arrival; led to a fine, reasonable rental
car; helped and advised the first day, when good guidance is essential; entertained and
amused throughout our stay.

Our son works in St Kitts so we have visited many of the islands in the Carib and avoided St. Barts..thinking it might be too austentatious BUT we booked into Salines Gardens and not only loved the beauty of the island but also our hotel. The owner,Jean Phillipe and his wife, Laurence, to our mind, are perfect hoteliers. They provided us with service and help when we needed it but we like to explore on our own too. Rooms are clean and well appointed with a room safe, nice towels, AC and fan. We had an outside kitchenette and often sat outside and enjoyed the garden and a glass of wine. Wireless interenet is available. The people staying there were interesting and breakfast together each morning was fun. Jean Philippe is an entertaining and knowledgeable character and made the stay very enjoyable. Location not on the ocean but quiet and easy to find and near to great beaches. We will definitely come back.
