The restaurant is somewhat hidden in the beautiful little baroque town of Scicli. The interior is surprisingly modern, with a eye for detail and luxury. I mean, comfy chairs with leather and wood, pristine white napkins, spacious toilet rooms... You don't expect this in 'rural' Sicily.
The food is from local ingredients, brought together in a higly original way and cooked to perfection. For a sunday lunch my wife ordered an almond 'soup' with vongole, I had a cream of 'fave' beans with small fried squids, some ricotta cheese and zucchini flower. My main dish was dolpinfish (nothing to do with dolphin though - synonym of maki maki) with slices of candied pumpkin. My wife had stuffed squid, it looked like a piece of art and it also tasted that way. The dessert with ice cream of saffron and wild fennel was mind-blowing.
For me, the level of this lunch was easily at one star michelin level, yet the bill was just € 131 for two, including a bottle of wine of € 45, a glass of sparkling wine (Murgo - excellent!) and coffee. This is far from expensive for what you get. Other reviewers have some critic about the knowledge of the staff. It is true that our (otherwise very kind) waiter could not answer a question I had about a wine, but he went to ask in the kitchen, which is fine for me. The wine list is just a sheet of paper and is not very informative, on the other hand all the wines are displayed on a shelf and for me it was a kind of fun to have a look to the bottles with the wine list in the hand. There are only Sicilian wines and the selection is very good and prices reasonable, so you won't be disappointed here. The personal greeting by the chefs as we left made the experience complete. Very highly recommended, as Michelin would say "vaut le détour".
