“Lovely local staff but an extremely overpriced resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2009

After seeing the photos of Le Vasa depicting an amazing beach we had high expectations. However we were really disappointed that the beach was in fact unswimmable (it had some sort of gross sludge and we did not see one single person attempt to swim in it).

The owner has done a really great job of renovating the resort and the fales, and all the facilities are great. However...

The food (while good quality) was severely overpriced. This was a trend for all "extras", so much so that it would be a reason to not recommend staying at Le Vasa.

I must mention the amazing local staff who made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them.

* For those checking, the resort was spared from the Tsunami and the staff have done a fantastic job cleaning up and getting it back to normal.

** We rented a car for our whole stay so managed to get around quite a number of resorts, beach fales, restaurants etc. Therefore the following is as much a comparison as it is our experience of the resort.

Firstly the positives:
- Clean and very comfortable fales with air conditioning, free water each day, clean bathrooms and a nice deck. The housekeepers do a wonderful job of cleaning and are extremely friendly. Thanks Koreti and staff for looking after us!
- Very nice pool and deck. Had a great time swimming, relaxing and drinking cocktails by the pool.
- Nice cocktails, better than the beach fales we visited
- Nice view of the ocean
- Friendly staff, easy to deal with, went out of their way to make sure we had a comfortable stay. They happily and helpfully assisted us with all our queries and bookings, and very promptly too! It really made the difference, thanks!

Now for the only major negative:
- Food is delicious, but EXTREMELY overpriced (WST$55-70 / NZ$32-41 for a main, WST$35 / NZ$20 for two eggs, fruit and coffee). The problem is made worse as there are no other easy options around for eating. We fortunately had rented a car and so visited Apia and other resorts for dinner. The price difference for a similar meal at Apia can be up to 50% cheaper, or 25% cheaper at other resorts. However note there is nothing nearby. Apia is 40-50 minutes away, and the next nearest resort is Aggie Greys Resort which is only slightly cheaper. We also brought breakfast with us in the form of cereal/Up-and-Go.

Neutral (depends on if it's important to you or not) / Location notes to be aware of:
- The nearest swimming beach is a bike / car ride away.
- The nearest snorkelling is a 1+ hour car ride away, or requires a hired boat.
- Markets and purchasing your own fruit is a 50 min car ride to Apia away.

Overall a great stay and I would recommend the resort.

After having spent 13 nights at Le Vasa Resort, and having spent time in a budget rent a car going around all the other resorts on the island, I must say 100% that we made the right decision booking at Le Vasa Resort.

The Staff, Owner and Manager were lovely to deal with. Very friendly and beautiful surroundings and layout.

After having researched on the internet before we left the differing resorts, I must say having been to visit each one, that the internet can be quite deceiving. Hence saying that Le Vasa Resort was ideal in location, views of the ocean, and just a fantastic layout. Loved the Pool and our Fale which was the Deluxe Beachfront Fale.

Le Vasa isn't far from the airport and is an hours drive to Apia. Taxi is $60 taile each way. Definately consider hiring a car and getting to know this island as they have beautiful hidden treasure locations.

Loved having cocktails at night at the bar, and was lovely how the Manager and Owner mixed with the guests. At all times they acted professonal and not once did I see any Staff Member drunk as has been suggested by another reviewer. So one would think after spending 13 nights there we would have seen something like that.

Most tourists spend only 1-3 nights making the mistake of staying at other resorts, to then finding out that this resort wins hands down. Don't think that staying at the more expensive ones like Coconuts that your in a great resort and location. We checked out coconuts as I really wanted to go there but it was expensive. It was lovely, but certainly lacked the layout that Le Vasa has.

The food and drink at Le Vasa was awesome. Cannot fault the food, and even the afternoon scones and teas went down a treat.

So don't hesitate for one minute in booking this resort, as we highly recommend it. The value is well worth it, and definately not overpriced as compared to other resorts.

Le Vasa resort and it's crew were fantastic during our stay for three nights. The rooms were tidied daily with fresh sheets and towels. We felt as if we've known Soraya and her workers for a long long time.I felt so at home with the greetings that we received from the manager and her staff on the afternoon that we arrived. The fale that we stayed in was beautiful. You wake up in the morning open the front door one step outside then dive into a crystal clear sea.Am I dreaming no that was real. We played sandball with some of the guests had a beach cricket game and some of the girls were fishing from dust til dawn.I can't stop thinking of the great times we've had at Le Vasa,my husband and our two boys are going back next year.

Thank you Le Vasa for making us feel so welcome thank you for the great three nights that we were there, special thanks to all the staff Susan,Jenny Miriama,Loto Tusi the chef, Ioane and all the other crew sorry if I forgot anyone you are all special to us.We are looking forward into seeing you next year and I'll make sure that there be more people coming this time.
Regards
Dot Vicki Marie Nic Pauline and Lyndal

Le Vasa was a real disappointment and falls far short of other experiences we've had in Samoa.
One big problem seems to be the fact that the owner (an American) doesn't seem connected at all, and the place is a shambles. We were overcharged by some 12,000 ST because one of the employees (the manager?) put one too many digits on our bill. This took 7 days and many emails from NZ to rectify. Something we think is totally unacceptable.
Staff don't seem happy. We saw the owner and at another time, the manager type person bawl out staff members in front of us. Again totally unacceptable. We were trying to negotiate a fishing trip, and instead of coming out to talk about it we had 4 or 5 interchanges with a staff member who was running back and forth with messages from the owner. We wondered why the owner sitting in her office couldn't come out and speak to us directly.
We caught a large tuna, had a meal between four of us and the remaining was used to feed the guests. We were still charged for the rice and salad!
The showers empty directly onto the rocks below the fales and run into the lagoon. If you have any conservationist tendencies, this makes you feel really bad about the impact of the soap and shampoo on the quality of the water and the fish.
Don't get the fale by the road, The guys at the gate were drinking beer pretty late into the night.
You just get a sense that this place is on a downhill slide. They have no clue.

We arrived here looking and feeling the worse for wear after staying at a resort that had basic facilities, in which we checked out early. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and noticing I had an injury they took control and went out of there way to see to my comfort, which I shall always be grateful. The Oceanfront Fale was just wonderful and the view was what you dream of. La Vasa Resort was a great place to stay, staff were friendly and helpful and I look forward to returning in the near furtue.

Service at the Le Vasa Resort was exceptional!! The rooms are awesome ( big ups on the cleanliness). Staff are awesome and super friendly, made our stay soooo enjoyable and relaxing which is just what we needed, great place to go for that second honeymoon or much needed break lol.
Really enjoyed the variety of cocktails that were provided and the Bar Staff is so friendly. They also gave us some great recommendations on drinks we had never tried before, and i must say they were delightful. Full amenities were also provided for us and that was a bonus. Great yummy, yummy food too!!!My mouth is still watering from the great selection!!! For tips if your unsure of what to order for your first meal or you want to be daring and try something you've never had before, ask the staff or the Manager for great ideas. She was so friendly and accommodating and made our stay so awesome. We found she's really helpful @ helping one solve those "unforeseen" issues lol!! It was our first trip to Samoa, and the resort was recommended by a friend who had visited earlier in the year....boy did it live up to expectations and thereby surpassing some of them. Got some really great things to take home for the family, as well as great memories.
Favorite thing about the Resort was definitely the food, and just how warm and friendly the staff were, great people. Totally looking forward to going back again soon!! SO GREAT ....TOTALLY RECOMMEND YOU GO THERE!!! GO!! GO NOW!!! you won't be disappointed!! :)
