“Excellant villa - but ......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2009

I stayed at this villa with my partner. This villa had three bedrooms with the master having a jucuzzi on the balcony, two bath rooms, utility room, living, dining and kitchen area. On arrival we were presented with a basket of fresh fruit and enough tea/coffee for our first day but the kitchen was poorly equiped. There were no basins for putting food in the microwave or oven, or basic equipment for food preparation, no wine glasses or can opener.

The fans in the kitchen/dinning /lounge areas were inadequate with air conditioning only in the bedrooms which we were instructed by the owner to turn off each time we left the villa and if not done, the owner would enter the villa and turn off himself.

We were not informed prior to arrival that there was a new villa being built next door and the work here commenced some mornings at 6.30 am, the noise forcing us away from the swimming pool during the day when it would have been nice to relax by the pool. On two days we were also reluctant to use the pool as it had turned green following addition of chlorine to the pool which was feed by the local well.

The location of the villa meant that it was necessary to either hire a car or use taxis. The taxi drivers could not be persuaded to use the meters and it cost 200baht to Chawang/ 300 baht to Bophut.

Thank you for giving us the most ratings from all in your family. I would like to comment however on few of your statements that I find incorrect. It is true that we don't have wine glasses here. This is because they are easy to tip-over and break. It even happened that the glass was finishing in the swimming pool to which the glasses were taken. However, I cannot disagree more with the lack of "basic equipment for food preparation". Here is the complete list of our kitchenware: set of 3 pots, frying pan, cutlery set of 5 pieces for 6 people (30 pieces), set of 3 carving knifes and a knife sharpener, cutting board, bone scissors, plastic ladle and spatula and bottle opener. There are also set of plates and bowls for 6 people, 6 mugs, 6 glasses, toaster, kettle, convection microwave, oven, cook top and full size fridge-freezer on the list of kitchen equipments. What do one consider "basic .. for food preparation" that is not there? Lemon zester and melon baller? Almost each of your family members pointed out that there was “no can opener” here. But nobody stated there was no bottle opener. It is a strange coincidence that the bottle opener that was at your house has a little knife on it that actually serves as ... THE CAN OPENER! But if the lack of a more sophisticated can opener was such a huge problem for you as it sounds, if you really came to Samui to eat out of cans you could have just asked for it. I was in the house next door and a fully dedicated can opener would have been whisked to you. The same goes for microwave dishes although of course you could have used the plates or bowls for that purpose that were in the house.

You were not "instructed" to switch off air-con when leaving but politely asked for. I think there is a BIG difference here. You could have had the air-con on when not in the house if that was really so badly desired if you wanted to pay for it a little extra. But you decided not to. What could I do about this? Pay for what you yourselves don’t want to pay for?

Anybody who knows Thailand also knows that there is no work starting here at 6.30 in the morning. A Thai anthem is played every day at 8am and 6pm to indicate the beginning and ending of the working day. Your claim that you were being woken up by construction people next door at 6.30 am is not true. Since I live here I know quite well what time they start work. I unreservedly apologise though for whatever inconvenience you experienced due to the work being carried out by our neighbour.

I stayed here with family ranging from granparents down to 6 months.
is a nice villa although not as clean as it could/should be and the kitchen was not very well equipped (no can opener ).
There is air conditioning which we were told we could not leave on even in 1 room for the baby (being told we should not take baby to hot country).
If we left it on the owner who lived on site would let himself in and turn it off.
The pool was a lovely pea soup colour for several days as the filter was turned off for several hours each day .
There were no half decent english tv channels.
The young Thai (boy) cleaner was observed shooting small birds from the trees outside villa.

This is unfortunately another "review" left by the members of the same family and following the same claims. I have addressed them under the other "reviews". Carbut in addition mentions "no half decent english tv channels" and "the young Thai (boy) cleaner was observed shooting
small birds from the trees outside villa". Both of these claims are untrue. We have about 12 channels in English here including BBC
World, Network Australia, Fox News, Bloomberg, Nickelodeon cartoons, Zone Reality, Euro Sport, Mnet Series and ALL DAY MOVIE channel Mnet
Movies! But if Carbut overlooked the fact of being actually in Thailand on holidays and found this selection was not decent enough to be happy about I suggest that Carbut should have stayed home and not travel half-way across the world because the best selection of English channels is in England. As to the "shooting small birds from
the trees" activity how many birds did Carbut actually observed being blown away from the trees? This claim also implies that we do have
firearms at the premises here which we DO NOT. Plus we actually care a lot about the birds that visit us. Not only they look good and make pleasant noises but also provide some degree of protection from insects consuming our greenery and beetles killing the coconut trees on Samui. So what did actually Carbut see? I presume it was somebody playing with a toy-gun at the most.

Our adult family of 4 had a really chilled out time here. There are four superb villas and a good size shared pool which has pretty shrubs and plants.
Our villa had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, dining and lounge areas with large T.V and DVD player, plus private seating outside and padded sun loungers.
The fittings and furnishings were all classy and comfortable and the owner is on site if there should be a problem or you need a taxi or car hire. Taxi to Chaweng is 200 baht (about £3.20) or car hires cheap if you fancy driving around the island, we planned to do this but when we arrived at this little oasis it was so nice that we didn't venture further than Chaweng.
We have stayed in 4 star hotel before at Koh Samui but Baan Luxor was a superior holiday experience that I would recommend for families or group of friends.....its a bargain too, compared to renting 2 rooms at a good hotel we were far better off here and had so much more space.
