“Hotel is on a downward trend, will not be back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

This was our third time staying at the Muang Samui Spa Resort in Chaweng and the quality of the stay/service has degraded to the point where we will not be back.

There has been no effort to keep the rooms updated. The drapes and cushions for the furniture are showing their wear and tear due to the humidity. The beds were OK for comfort but my wife had lots of bites on her legs one morning. Might be bed bugs or spiders in the bedding.

It also appears that all the the best staff at the Muang Samui Spa Resort have been moved up to their new property the Muang Samui Villas and Suites.

Things that we liked about our stay was the breakfast and the spa facilities. Both were above average for food and spa treatments in Chaweng.

We stayed for 7 nights at the Muang samui resort Chaweng and i must say this was one fantastic stay. the hotel is perfectly situated at Chaweng road and close to the main busy shopping/restaurants area, the hotel itself is clean with nice well decorated rooms and the service is astonishing. the beach is nice but not one of the perfect beaches but we always used to go the Ark bar beach next to it maybe 500 meters away which had a perfect beach with nice music playing all the time.
The only downside to the hotel i think is the food as we had a couple of dinners at the hotel and i don't think the food was of great quality. but in general the hotel is great and i recommend it to any young couple wanting to visit Ko Samui.

What a fantastic location, perfectly situated on the beach and close enough to all the stores and shopping that is what makes Thailand amazing!
The staff were super friendly and talkative and would be happy to just have a chat or help us with anything service related.

We found this to have one of the best beachside locations as the other resorts to close to party locations and this resulted in all matter of things washing along the beach, but not at Muang!
Make sure to pop by the "Have a Nice Day!" family massage stand on the beach, well worth it for a truly amazing and relaxing experience!

Have just returned from a very enjoyable 13 nights at the Muang - Chaweng - NOT Bophut - we choose Chaweng as we had four 17-21yo's with us (they wanted the NIGHTLIFE!). This resort is 200m to the north of the main (very busy & noisy) beach - so well within walking distance of action, but at the quiet end of the beach, yes it is in an area that is a 'lagoon', which is very shallow and a bit weedy at low tide, this makes is unsuitable for the dozens of jetskis - total bonus! as mentioned by others the pool is great. We had four rooms Room 3304 Royal Suite Sea View (on third floor - many stairs) and three Junior Suites Garden View 2215, 2218 (second floor) and 1110 (first/ground floor). All rooms were spacious, if perhaps a little dark - very difficult to read. The Sea View room has a roof terrace with a small round table and chairs to sit, enjoy and evening drink etc at sunset (sea glimpses through the very lush canopy) also an old outdoor spa and a fully covered day bed - we used this area for drinks only - there are no lounges etc or area for sunbaking. The atmosphere of the resort was quiet calm in a lush garden setting - the buildings etc had a 'rustic' feel - perhaps a little tired but charming. Breakfast buffet was good - staples offered cereal, fruit, eggs, bacon, cold meats etc. with a changing offering of hot dishes - noddles etc. We found the staff EXCELLENT - every member (gardeners, cleaners, waiters, spa) of staff would stop and great ALL guests with a smile. The beach front bar staff were terrific - delivering food & drinks to our loungers on the beach with a smile. The only warning I would give is the aircon in the gym is completely useless - as mentioned in another review 2-3 months ago - I did bring this up with the staff and the said it sometimes works - strange it didn't work at all during our stay - it is extremely small and the equipment is poor - tired treadmill, strider, ancient bicycle, a range of hand weights and one bench - no room or mat for floor work. If working out is important to you this resort is NOT for you - it is far too HOT, small and under equipped. There is an excellent local restaurant on the beach next door and many many more not far away. We took advantage of the massages on the beach - heaven! I would rate this hotel as a rustic 3-4 star. According to staff the hotel was full and yet we didn't have that 'crowded' feeling which we noticed a a few of the other larger hotels on the beach.

Room Tip: All our rooms were spacious with large functional bathrooms, there are 6-7 steps to the ground floor...

we stayed for 4 nights at this property. The room was spacious and the bathroom was big. interior was very traditional and different but definitely needed maintenance. The pool was nice, but the beach which was right in front was not fit to take a dip. The staff was hospitable enough to make our stay comfortable. The best part of this property is the location. its right on the chaweng beach. the best places like green mango, ark bar and hotel, islander etc were just 5 minutes walk.

We stayed at Muang Samui for 6 nights in the Junior Suite. The room was great. Spacious with a nice layout. Good value for money for the size. Swimming pool was nice too.

Bad thing was, there's a beach right in front of you but you can't swim in it!! There were algae/seaweed everywhere! It was muddy, rocky and very low tide all the time :( However, just 10 mins walk down south and the beach was heaven. Walking that distance would be ok but in the heat and with no sun loungers waiting was just not enticing enough.

We received a free Thai massage for two. It was average and was done indoor. The breakfast was quite good and the service was pretty ok too with the exception of one or two waiters who were less than professional.

There is a sister hotel in Choeng Mon beach but that was hardly much better. Free shuttle is provided at certain times for guests.

Room Tip: I recommend booking a hotel that starts from the Ark Bar and down south onward where the beach is si...

We had moved from the Dara Samui next door where we had had the misfortune to be put into what felt like a room v much on its last legs. We were upgraded to a junior suite from a grand deluxe which meant that we had a huge and very comfortable room and in comparison to the previous night bliss! There is a little outside space but no views just in the garden which looks to e for most of the rooms. The service was very sweet, the pool was fairly small but good for a dip, the beach is not the greatest, but the location is good - quiet but close to the main strip if needed. Reception staff bar a couple, Are pretty limited on english but do try v hard although the brutal call at 8am to ask me what time i was plannning to check out was a bit unneccesary! It was definitely low season vibes. We were pleased with our stay but having since moved from here to elsewhere on the island, for us, there's better value to be had on the island.
