“Holoday In Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2007

This was our first trip to Thailand, so we went with open minds on what it would be like. Nothing could have prepared us for the friendly welcome and the kindness extended to us during our stay of 8 days (not long enough). The resort was idyllic being located at the quiet end of Chaweng away from the crowds, but close enough to all amenities. The water was beautifully clear, warm and so relaxing. The pool was great with spa jets to relax you after sightseeing and shopping. Our room was wonderful with the biggest bed we'd ever seen, everything was clean and comfortable, with lovely little extra touches every day such as fresh flowers, candles, oil burners and lovely little notes every evening (very funny). The food was great with an very wide selection. The restaurant had special theme nights which gave an even wider choice. The bar snacks were great too. We were lucky to be there for Thai New Year. What a night!!! A beautiful meal on the beach then a wonderful show of Traditional Dance, Thai Fighting Display and Cabaret Acts. The next day the fun continued with all visitors and locals alike throwing water on everyone. This happened all over Thailand and is part of the New Year tradition. We were wet all day and could not have had more fun. We would definitely recommend visiting at this time of year just for the New Year celebrations. We highly recommend this resort mainly because of the friendly staff, who could not do enough for us, always smiling and helpful, giving us an insight into the giving nature of Thai people.

Compared to most of the reviews for the Chaba our experience does not quite match others. The prices at the resort are over the top compared to prices elsewhere on the island when it comes to dining in or having a drink at the bar. I read how friendly the staff were, while I wouldn't suggest that they were rude perhaps they save their 'friendly' demenour for those happy to pay twice the price for a meal. Rooms were okay but not that flash and beds are very hard. We had a very relaxing time in Samui but all in all, for us, it is a shell of the real Thai experience. More a place that has been manufactured to meet tourist expectations. One thing that really annoyed us was getting up every morning to see people rushing from their rooms to put towels on sun-lounges with no intention of using them until mid afternoon. Many beds lay vacant except for a sea of towels for half the day yet staff had no problem with this. Swimming in the sea can be a bit of hit and miss affair. Depending on the moon faze you can have a few days of beautiful clear water followed by days of cloudy sewage filled water and floating rubbish. And yes, that is exactly what it is! Best to stick to the pool on those days - if you can get a sunlounge anywhere near it that is! I would say that this resort is best suited to people with very small children or senior citizens. Would highly recommend 'Big Wave' restuarant just off the main Chaweng Rd. Well worth looking out for. Fabulous food and great prices. The service is impecible and genuinely friendly.

Just back from 10 nights at the Chaba in Mar '07 and we choose this resort after reading all the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and I can honestly say that all the positive comments are TRUE. This is a fabulous hotel in the best location at the north end of the beach which means you only have one way to walk to along the bay. The hotel facilities can't be faulted, the breakfast buffet was very good, however, we did encounter a couple of international incidents at the bread toasting machine during our stay!! The hotel bar is expensive but its definately worth paying that little bit more during Happy Hour to chill out after a hard day on the beach. We ate at the C Front Restaurant twice and the quality of the food was very high. I'd definately recommend eating on the bay at night (more expensive but worth it) as we found the main street in Chaweng to be very hot, stuffy and it distinctly lacks the "charm" of other places we've visited in Thailand i.e. Karon, Kata and Patong in Phuket and also Hua Hin on the mainland. There's also a bar called the Indian House just a couple of doors down the beach from the Chaba which we found to be excellent. Room was well equipped, clean and tidy. Beds were a little hard but we got used to them after a couple of nights. There aren't many sun beds around the pool or on the beach but we didn't have any trouble getting 2 when we wanted them and we're not the earliest risers when on holiday. The whole resort is a very pleasant place to stay and if we return to Koh Samui we'll definately stay here again.

My husband and I arrived in Koh samui after spending 2 weeks treking around China. This was our first time in Thailand and staying at the chaba was just what the doctor ordered, close enough to the main shopping district to walk and explore but far enough away to be relaxing. We spent 3 days soaking up the sun and atmosphere. The spa experience was delightful and affordable. The service remarkable and the lodgings clean and comfortable. The only down side if you could call it one, was the power failures at night. Still we had such a great time there that we are looking forward to heading back soon.

Returned on Friday from Chaba, excuse the tital of this report but I don't want everyone going here, pushing up the price and there not being space for me next time!!!
Fantastic resort, second visit to Chaweng on Koh Samui, last time went to the Beachcomber which was OK but Chaba definetly has the edge in all areas. from check in which was expertly conducted, room allocation, bar, restaurant, pool, beach all really first class. staff, particularly Mon and the Manager were excellent. My wife originally thought location was too remote, but main Chaweng is about 1km and 100baht away, just right as we discovered. As previous review stated, sun loungers do go quick, certain nationalites going out at 1am to snag their spot (we actually witnessed this amazing nocturnal behaviour!!!) Olivio's next door is superb, as is the Indian on same side of road as McD's and couple doors back towards Chaba. Also good was the Lady Boy show, DO NOT sit near front unless very liberally minded, they have NO shame. We were a group of 8 based at Chaba, Samui Grand View (not good, pool never worked and not on beach) and Amanda resort, lovely location ideal for couples, quite beach life. Finally, when transferring from KS to BK with Bangkok Airways, on arrival DO get next boarding card, a BA person told us we didn't need one, missed our flight and whole journey tooks us 30 hrs instead of 14 NIGHTMARE!! Going to go back to either Chaba or try the Amanda next time
