“A lovely lovely resort!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2008

This is a great resort!! My boyfriend and I (both 30 yrs) stayed at BFS for 5 nights at the beginning of March 08. We were collected at Koh Samui on time by the resort air-conditioned people carrier with a friendly, smiley driver who gave us bottles of water for the 15 minute transfer. Check in was quick and easy.

We had booked bungalow 328 which is a beachfront villa with an outdoor jacuzzi and private sundeck. The bungalow was absolutely lovely, modernised, clean and spacious with a living area, 2 tv’s, dvd, well equipped bathroom, storage space etc. The bedroom had an extremely comfortable bed with a memory foam mattress. We had such beautiful views of the sea and waves out of the bedroom and living area with floor to ceiling windows. It was remarkably quiet at night..apart from the sound of crashing waves. The jacuzzi was lots of fun with bubbling warm water and pretty much private / secluded. 328 is without doubt the nicest bungalow in the resort with the best location; it is literally ON the beach, 10 steps or so from the door to the sand, which was brilliant. Although pricey compared to the rest of the accommodation, you cannot go wrong if you book room 328!! We had looked at staying at Tongsai Bay, as well as Sala Samui - both 5 star resorts..but felt they may have lacked atmosphere..am extremely happy with the choice we made instead.

The resort is well laid out with a good size swimming pool, chilled out bar and restaurant. Having walked up and down Chaweng beach, we definitely thought that BFS was on the best part of the beach, in terms of lovely soft sand, sea breeze and the sea which was inviting with playful waves. There is also a ‘relax corner’ just under the resort, on the beach with wonderful cheap thai massages for around £4 for an hour! We were up pretty early so always got sun loungers after breakfast; however, there were a number of Germans laying towels down as early as 6.30!!? The majority of the guests were German, Scandinavian and a few English.

Breakfast was varied with a pretty good selection of fruit, juices, breads and a dedicated chef to cook eggs any way for you. We had lunch there a few times and chose to eat off the pool / beach menu which was good value and a selection of thai and western meals. Happy hour was from 4 or 5ish to 7 and we really enjoyed chilling out, drinking cheap cocktails sitting overlooking the beach.

Dinner, BFS have a variety of theme nights from BBQ, European and Thai but we decided to venture out to other places which we highly recommend you go to (Prego, Poppies, Dining on the Rocks, The Pier at Fishermans Village and Eat Sense).

The Staff at BFS were brilliant. So so friendly, a special mention to Chong (the barman), Bo and Eek who all made our stay very enjoyable. Even though this resort is 3 star, the customer service was certainly more 4/5 star.

We were very sad to leave, have great memories and would definitely return to the resort and room 328 again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2008

When we decided on the Banana Fan, I read the reviews and the only negative point I could see was not to stay near the reception area. We told our travel agent not to book that particular room and when we arrived at the Hotel was very surprised to see that we had been booked in the room near the reception area. In actual fact it is the room that is directly behind the reception area where the tours are booked. We thought that we would give it a chance and see for ourselves if it was as bad as what the review was that we read about. It was, as there was a constant noise from the fax machine, the clip clop of the shoes of the person that books the tours walking up and down, and during the course of the night constant chatting from the people using the internet on the same floor. We complained and eventually after 3 days was upgraded to one of the garden rooms. What a pleasure. The vacinity that the Hotel is in is excellent though. Breakfast was great. I would definately stay back at the hotel, but would recommend a garden room or anything away from the reception area.

  • Liked — Garden room accommodation was quiet and peaceful
  • Disliked — Room behind the tour booking area was terrible

Definitely recommend this resort!

We booked a superior room, which was enormous. Fantastic pool area right on the beach. DELICIOUS restaurant with fantastic buffet breakfast (best banana bread EVER!). Really helpful and lovely reception staff. Good location at the slightly quieter end of Chewang - yet still close enough to walk to all the action (and some great shops and restaurants within 50-100 metres)

The only drawback was that it was overcast almost the whole time we were there! (realise now that December's not the best month for Samui) but it was still warm and there was so much to do it didn't really matter.

  • Liked — Location right on the beach

In one word - GREAT !

Now a bit more details. We were three me, my wife and our daughter of 4 yrs. Lived in a standard bungalow. To make a story short:

Pluses:
+ well located - in the center of Chaweng but somehow slightly away from all the noise.
+ nice territory with beutiful landscape and lots of small paths around bungalows which make you feel you are in a huge resort (only Thais know how to make small places look like a big ones!)
+ Breakfasts - tasty, well served, good service and eggs with omlet prepared by the Chef to your liking
+ the beach is just perfect and there is enough sunbeds there (not the case for the pool sometimes)
+ showes at the pool almost every night with the buffet (usualy) or a-la-carte.
+ nice staff
+ rooms big enough, and despite of comments that there is a lack of storage space we were Okay.
+ tea/coffee facilities in the room which is very nice

Now to minuses:
- you will never be able to get a sunbed at the front end of the pool terrace (we saw a few times some tourists 'tipping' the staff for reserving the sunbed) - not a good practice !
- the kids pool in fact is even a bit dangerous for kids (deep and has no easy entrance) majority of ids are in jacuzzi because of that.
- the food in the restaurant at dinners sometimes not very tasty - in fact we preffered some other places (breakfasts were never disapointing)
- the massage area on the beach is a bit shabby

So, in fact no major drawbacks. Great resort with strong expatriate management but a Thai flavour. Recomended !

  • Liked — Value for money
  • Disliked — TRY NOT TO RESERVE SUNBEDS !!!!!

If you are looking for a room right on the beach that is something special look no further. I literally looked and compared every single hotel along the beach and come up with this one, particuarly this room and was glad I did. Room 328 is a 1 bedroom villa, (seperate loungeroom and bedroom). It has a great private sundeck and it all looks straight onto the beach with its own walled garden. It has a jacuzzi on the deck and albeit small is nice to have. The bedroom looks to the sea as does the loungeroom with its full glass front. The location is perfect for restaurants and shops. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfasts were great. We dined at the restaurant for lunch a couple of times which was good to but for dinners we chose to dine out. You can walk up the beach and choose from a stack of great restaurants or walk the street and find the same. The choice is endless, prices are great. The pool at the resort is also good, its nice and deep and the massage service is great too, located on the beach. I didnt see the other rooms, however they appeared quite large. The gardens in the resort are beautifully kept. I would definately go back to room 328 again!
