“Peace and quiet with 5 star comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Leaving a very stressed work environment behind, I stayed at Poppies to re-charge...it was the perfect remedy - I had some of the best sleep ever there. Poppies is so peaceful which in SE Asia can often be difficult to find....the food is excellent the rooms are so lovely, spacious and clean I could not recommend this place high enough. The best bit is the attention they pay to detail at every level - Most of the staff have been there for years, they operate like a small family and I loved them for the comfort and service they gave to me and my wife...they have guests returning year after year - seriously, it is not cheap, but it is by far the best - The staff make it what it is, they were just awesome at looking after our every need! We are already planning our return in three months...

Having read so many great reviews our expectations were high and we have not been disappointed. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel like most favoured guests. The manager and all the staff are friendly, caring and attentive with nothing being too much trouble. The garden bungalows are of a high quality and generously sized. The restaurant has a wide range of dishes at breakfast and dinner with a nice wine list. In short - very impressive.

Room Tip: Very few beach front bungalows so book early if you want one!

Great hotel, Nice appointed rooms and location. Chaweng is busy and a party town which did not really suit our family but the grounds were beautiful and staff very kind and accomodating. The only negative was that they burn fires on beach which woke us up twice in a row as it was that smokey in our room. Not good for an asthmatic child. Bring mosquito repellent :)

I am writing this review as we near the end of our 10 day stay. We have thoroughly enjoyed Poppies. Our bungalow is spacious and very comfortable. Love the bathroom. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the pool is a welcome relief from the heat. Poppies is right on the beach and guests are well looked after with deck chairs and cold water. Breakfast is quite substantial with fresh fruit, fresh juice, muesli, omelettes and toast. We dined at the restaurant and the food is truly fantastic. Koh Samui boasts some beautiful beaches. We hired a car through reception - a little 4 door Honda - for $40 a day and drove to some very nice places. Chaweng Beach has a lot to offer - it is 5kms long and we enjoyed walking along the beach one way with all its restaurants and bars, then returning via the street with all its shops.

We stayed at Poppies in July for a 50th birthday celebration. Poppies is beautiful with lovely Thai style well designed cottages in lush gardens positioned so that each cottage has privacy and a lovely outlook. The staff are friendly, welcoming and make you feel at home. There are little touches like turn down treats left every night and tropical fruit delivered each morning to replenish your fruit basket. The whole bed was decorated one night with Happy 50th Birthday spelt out in thai jasmine and orchards which was unexpected and touching. Added to that we were lucky enough to be given the front cottage which was magic. Sitting on the front balcony looking over the beach having a pre dinner gin and tonic - it doesn't get much better than that! And Poppies is situated on the best section of the beach where the water is clean, calm and beautiful every day. Lying on a sun lounge looking out at the water you will savour every moment. The weekly manager's cocktail party on the beach with beautiful canapés and drinks and gave everyone the opportunity to get to know staff and other guests. We met some lovely people when we stayed here and Poppies felt more like home than a hotel. Our only suggestions for improvement would be new softer pillows and some more variety in the breakfast. We can see why people come back to Poppies. We loved it and hope to be back!

Room Tip: Room near the beach was fabulous but all other rooms had lovely private garden outlooks.

Staying at Poppies is like being at your own private island. The place is so beautiful and peaceful. It is conveniently placed, close to everything. Our room had so many little personal touches, fruit and chocolates every day. There were cookies and gifts with a turndown at night. The cottages were located in a small jungle, a really gorgeous setting. We took long walks on the beach and visited the restaurants and shops close by. The staff could not do enough for us. We hated having to leave. We are already planning our next visit.

..and possibly the very best in koh samui, unless you can afford (and want) to seclude yourself in some clifftop or private beach resort. having been to koh samui once before (always on chaweng) and walked the lenght of the beach a number of times, i just booked here straight away. this is a boutique resort, with reasonable price and five star service. service i guess is what really makes the difference, the staff is asolutely lovely. we stayed one week, then one more night after spending one week in the neighbourgh island of koh panghan, and it was like going back home.. what welcome we had. they have plenty of little touches that are totally endearing, the fresh fruit and home baked little biscuit they leave wrapped in a banana leaf each day, the little presents on the first days of stay, the newspaper and fresh fruit every morning. management organises free drinks on the beach once a week or so, to let the guests mingle. the touch is very personal while remaining discreet. i loved that they let you have breakfast very late - it's copious, varied, not buffet style, a brunch really. as the beach faces east and is at its absolute best early morning, we settled in a routine of having coffee and fruit in the cottage (there's a kettle and coffee in the cottage, forgot to mention), going for a swim (and securing the best loungers on the beach), then have breakfast. the only downside to this is you won't be hungry enough to order the amazing light lunches and snacks they do :). poppies has one of the best kitchens of all koh samui (on the expensive side, of course). we had dinner there four times despite the choice you have in chaweng, as it just turned out to be our favorite anyway.
chaweng has been more or less devastated by reckless development. it just takes your breath away to think of the ignorance of the thai authorities who allowed for resorts to build concrete ramparts and totally ugly structures right on the beach. the two resorts on each side of poppies are among the most ignorant of all, very cheap, package style holidays, just way too many rooms to make any sense at all. Poppies is so tasteful, from the beach you only see the unobtrusive common areas and greenery. the bungalows are behind, immersed in a lush, very beautiful tropicl garden. it somehow miraculously manages to make you feel in a world apart despite what's around you. and given that despite the reckless development chaweng is such a stunning beach that it remains beautiful with powdery white sand and super clear waters, well you can still feel like you are still in tropical paradise. but it really is all because of Poppies, kudos to them :)
