“Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

This place is on a nice quiet location. Close enough to the action but with your own private bech and beautiful ocean water pool it is a great thing. The bar is down there too which is nice for sundown drinks. The staff are very hospitable

On arrival at the hotel everything was great until they checked myself and my friend into a double room when we had made a reservation for a twin room. The receptionist that showed us the room laughed when we asked why we were shown to a double room instead of a twin and responded by saying "we will move you tomorrow". They knew they had made a mistake and just appeared too lazy to go back to reception and change our room. In response to our complaint the following day, we received a voucher for 700 baht each for their hotel restaurant. Not a great start to our week.

Following this, everything was okay, the twin room was more spacious and had two separate beds which we had originally paid for and it was cleaned twice a day.

I have no idea why they didn't just move us into a twin room on arrival. There was rooms available and like I said, the receptionist just appeared too lazy to move us which was very disappointing.

Dear valued Guest

First of all thank you for your Comment on the Check in Process what was under your Impressions not satisfied handled from our Employees . We would like to take the Opportunity to adjust the Sentence that our Employees have laughed about you when they explained and excused that for the first Night your booked Room Category was not available do to a Overbooking Situation of the Hotel . As we are in the Land of Smile we assume that you have mistakenly mixed up laughing with a Smile from our Employee. It is the typical Thai Attidute- Mentality to show a Smile to any Stranger from Foreign Countrys when they are not confident in any Case what can be happen in the sensitive handling of every Guest Inquiry sometimes. No one of our valued Team Members would laughing over Guest this does not match at all to the Thai Nationality as above explained . We really hope that you reconsider this Matter and except this as our Apologize . Many Thanks for your Attention and maybe understanding on this unpleasant Point what have caused inconvienence during your Arrival.

Kindest Regards

Oh dear, very disappointed with the Imperial. This is our third time here, and will be our last. Such a drop in standards since our last visit in 2012. The room was as previous, large and comfortable, cleanliness was very OKish...cleaned daily, but not always thoroughly...
However, bed linen & towels have now seen much better days! Time to renew.

The grounds were not very tidy and needed tending. Overall the whole exterior of the Hotel now needs a serious facelift, including the deck areas at the pool/beach bar area. This decking also had loose boards, which could be a hazard. Streams with lovely fish in, are very dirty.Whilst sat at the beach bar we could see rubbish left within the hotel grounds, close to the beach...ugh!!!

We were B&B basis, breakfast was the usual assortment and good. Although there did seem to be issues with food running out, and when asked the Staff said there was no more.....there was still 45mins of service to go!!!!!

We ordered room service one evening, unfortunately this was NOT good at all, and most of it was returned to the kitchen! After speaking to reception, this bill was removed.

Overall Staff were friendly and polite, we enjoyed chatting to the Beach bar guys, and trying to learn a little Thai from them!

The tour operator we have used previously to go to The Imperial, no longer offers this hotel, so we booked independently direct with the The Imperial. After this visit, I can see why they have dropped this from their brochures! .......Shame!

Room Tip: If you have walking difficulties, be careful when booking as there are lots of steps at the hotel!

My sister and I stayed at this hotel over the new year period. We believed that this room was over priced, however we also take in consideration that we were staying over the new year which is their busiest season and prices are expected to be high. The location of this resort is excellent. It is situated right on the beach. The restaurant food was also delicious and catered to a wide range of cuisine. The staff were also very helpful through booking transport, suggesting destinations, ect. Our only complaint was the room itself. We stayed at the back of the hotel near the reception and the rooms were very average. Although quiet and clean, they were incredibly hot with terrible air conditioning and not overly modern. However, overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Stayed here for 5 nights in late December and requested a room near the beach. This was granted without any issue.

The room itself has a lot of room. It is a bit dated but OK. The shower doesn't drain very well as reported by other reviewers. In the morning there is a sewage smell more towards the entrance but this only seemed to happen in the mornings for some reason.

Breakfast was a good spread of hot and cold food. They have a cold room even for the drinks, fruits, deli, etc.. We had the best Waffles on the first morning (25th Dec), they were so fluffy and sumptuous. But unfortunately the next 4 mornings they were opposite. Very doughy. When we asked the cook she said need to cook more, which she did but still the same result. Could have been a bad batch for those next 4 days or maybe that first morning 25th Dec was the "wrong" batch but tasted awesome in which case they need to start using the "wrong" batch again.

The actual beach itself isn't good for swimming or wading as there are rocks all around. However, if you walk just 5 - 10 minutes to your left there are open beaches that are great for swimming or wading or mucking around.

One big tip here if you want to sunbake and relax on the beach. You need to wake up early (ie - between 630 and 7am) to go the pool side, grab your beach towels there, then place them on the sunlounge (round private chair that seats 2) or beach chairs. Then put some books or pamphlets or wattle bottles on it then go back to your room to sleep or go for breakfast. This essentially "reserves" your spot and you don't have to be there. I asked the pool guy if this was correct as it didn't seem fair (that is reserving a spot and you might not even turn up the whole day). He said this is OK. So if you want a good spot for the day get up early to reserve!

Another great thing was at the breakfast there is a tourdesk and rental counter. You can rent a scooter for 200 baht for the whole day! Petrol for the whole day is around 100 baht and you can go around the whole island and more. Considering that a return taxi to get to fishermans village after bargaining is 600 baht (they'll try to ask for 400 baht each way) this is a good deal. I would highly recommend you hire a scooter as it is so much fun and you get to see so much more of the island. It can be dangerous so ride with caution. But highly, highly recommended. There isn't much options to eat around the hotel as it is quite isolated so having a scooter allows you to go try so much more food.

We paid $184 AUD per night in late Dec which included breakfast. But we went at a peak time so it'll probably be cheaper on other dates.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms will get better views.

Dear valued Guest

First of all We Thank you for this positive review and it seems you have overall enjoyed our Hotel . Only one issue we have to amend in regards to early morning Reservation of Sunlounger on the Beach - Pool Area . This is not allowed at all in any Hotel wherever . Many Times we receiving bad Comments from other Guest who are complaining about such Mentalitys . Our Motto : First come First Serve without any Reservation . Many Thanks for your Attention on this delicate Point .

Warmest regards from the Team of the Imperial Samui

We reached at The Imperial at 9am since we took the night-boat from Surathani. Plan to keep our bags at the reception as we know that the check-in time would be at 2pm
Asked the front desk lady where is the nearest wash room so we can freshen up a bit after 35 hours of traveling before we reached Koh Samui. Then, I guess she saw us taking out our toiletries while giving us the welcome drink & suddenly came back with a key! Wow! She gave us a temporary room while waiting for our room to be ready, how nice! They definitely ace our first impressions!

Pro
- The staff here are always smiling, friendly & helpful. Credit to them too.
- Great huge breakfast selection from 6.30am till 10.30am
- fast wifi, as we're staying near pool/restaurant area (room 204)
- bathroom is equally huge as the bedroom
- there's two mini mart near the hotel
- location (still near to Chaweng busy area but away from the noise). We did also stayed at the center of Chaweng for a few days, it wont be a holiday if you'll hear honking more than 10 times a day plus that annoying advertisement vehicles passing every 10-20mins

Cons
- A lot of dirty plates around the pool area near to the beach & hardly see any staff here
- the worst mango shake in Samui, (for the first time we didn't finish our fruit shakes)
- a little bit of hike, but beautiful tranquil garden & ponds
- no gym but there's a tennis courts. Emhh weird
- clean beach but the sand is a lil rough compared to the one at the center of Chaweng

Had a great time staying at the Imperial Samui, yes it has a few issues but one word to staff and Mr Perfect (Wat) was on to it. The breakfasts were very good with a large selection of western & asian food, and a chef for your selection of egg/omelette.
The beds were very firm, but I asked for a bed topper and one was supplied that day. They are very eager to please and extremely helpful, the pools are excellent and the restaurant has good value food, the Thai food is delicious and the also do great burgers.
The room decor is getting dated but it was clean, had it's own gecko and was comfortable. The paths down to the pool and restaurant were an easy walk with well manicured gardens with ponds and waterfalls.
There is the occasional waft of waste water near the storage tanks, but this is not Maui, and I smelt the same pong in New York and we are talking about a third world region, same with the occasional language problem. For me, it was an experience well worth the price paid.

Room Tip: Close to restaurant and beach pool means a hike up to the breakfast area and concierge desk.
