“Relaxing Place for a holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

The Imperial on Chaweng Noi beach is a sprawling resort with many accommodation options from rooms "with a view" to separate villas. Our 'room with a sea view' ticked all the boxes for us. Be warned - as in many parts of Asia - the bed is very firm! The private balcony was a delightful place to sit and enjoy the view after the day's activities. There are many activities available for tourists on Koh Samui but it is hard to drag yourself away from the resort which is laid out in beautifully presented and maintained gardens complete with streams, waterfalls and koi to feed with the provided food. A winding path led through the grounds to the 100 steps from our room down to the beautiful white sand beach where there were plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas available. The sea here is clear and warm with a very safe gently sloping sandy bottom.

The Imperial has two large pools - one beach-side salt water pool where it is pleasant to laze and watch the passing parade of beach goers and merchandise vendors. However if you want to escape the afternoon sun then the tree shaded upper pool (outside the breakfast restaurant) is the place to be. At the northern end of the beach, in the shade of a large tree are the lunchtime food vendors with chicken nibbles and sweetcorn cooked on braziers and succulent fresh fruit on offer - all at very reasonable prices.

The extensive breakfast buffet catered for the varied tastes of the many nationalities of guests present while we were there. The staff and particularly Wat the F & B manager all went out of their way to ensure we wanted for nothing. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to create my own tea each morning using the many varieties offered including the loose leaf Chinese teas to which I was able to add fresh sliced ginger, fresh mint, lime etc

It was interesting to stroll in the hotel vegetable and herb garden and to see staff picking fresh produce for use in the kitchen.

We hired a motorcycle from the hotel - the rates were good and the motorcycle in good condition (not necessarily so at some of the other hire outlets). There is free parking available within the security manned resort compound. The hotel shuttle service into Chaweng or to Tesco Lotus (the large supermarket in Chaweng) is quick and reliable if you do not chose to hire your own transport.

As many other reviewers have pointed out the only drawback to this resort is the steps down to the beach - if you are not fit for this exertion then choose another resort as the slog back up in the heat would be too much for some.

A minor criticism would be the lack of information given to us on check in about the facilities available at the resort eg restaurants, happy hours, kayak rental etc. This is a nice place to stay, out of the hustle and bustle of Chaweng while still being close enough to go into town for shopping or eating out if desired. This is not a place for anyone who wants to party hard.

We had a wonderful family holiday with our children and their partners (plus one grandchild). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, no request was to much. They happily provided extra space for baby cot and mattress toppers for those with delicate backsides. The location is magical and we had a very happy week there, just sad to leave.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are highly recommended

17 years after our first visit of the Imperial Samui I can only say that it is still superb. This time we had a Juniour suite which was very good. The bed a bit hard, but we like it.All the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The pool is nice and the sea is clean. There are enough loungers and sunbeds around the pool and on the beach. There is an hourly bustrip to and from Chaweng, very convenient!
The breakfast is good,so is the restaurant. We enjoyed the happy hours, twice daily.
I should mention that this hotel is not so good for people with walking problems.
The check out lasted less then a minute!!!
Thanks again to all the staff!

Stayed for 8 nights and had a wonderful holiday. The beach-side sea water pool was amazing, with lots of loungers and umbrellas. Took full advantage of the lunch time happy hours! Staff were friendly and great, and nothing was ever too much. Great location away from the crowds, but with easy access to Chaweng in the evenings to eat out via the hotel transfer bus or taxi. Spacious room with great bathroom.
One minor niggle - we requested 2 twin rooms when we booked, but ended up with one twin and one double, so one of my teenagers ended up sleeping on the day bed - not a major problem as it was large and comfortable.
Highly recommended hotel and location

Room Tip: Premier sea facing rooms are worth the bit extra

They have an amazing staff on all levels, from pool attendants, room attendants, restaurant personnel, front of house staff, gardeners, transport drivers and bar staff. The head of Food and Beverage, Wat, was absolutely amazing. He is totally professional and amazingly friendly, insuring we and the other guests were lacking in nothing. He knew our names on the 1st day at the breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet is the best one we have ever seen in our years of extensive world travel. We had a wonderful experience and would not hesitate to recommend the resort to our friends and would absolutely stay there if we visit again. The beds are the biggest we have ever seen and our rooms each had a huge shower and spa bath and our balconies each had a plunge pool. The Resort has 2 beautiful swimming pools and the ocean is at your doorstep. The Resort grounds are kept in immaculate condition. The Resort is exactly as presented on the web site.
Cheers--Ken & Valerie

Room Tip: We had rooms 114 and 115 which were both excellent rooms on the 1st floor, convenient to everything.

We stayed 5 nights, with 2 children - 7 and 10.

The upsides:
The resort is absolutely beautiful.
Location is great - if you prefer quiet and to be off-center. It is only 5 minutes drive to Chaweng center.
Beach and pools are excellent (but closed at 7pm??)
Staff - very polite.
Room maintenance/cleanup- very frequent.

The OKs:
Breakfast - ok, expected more from such resort.
Restaurant - boring menu, a bit pricy, reasonable food - nothing special.

Downsides:
Hotel airport pickup - did not show up.
There is no activity for kids except pool and ocean (this place is more adaquate for couples - I should have checked it before I booked).
Bad smell of sewage from time to time.
Make sure you are in good shape since there is a climb from the rooms to lobby.
Last thing - how can such resort not offer even a tiny not to mention a proper fitness center? the only fitness facilily is a tennis court.

We had a wonderful holiday staying at Imperial Hotel Samui. The staff were very warm and friendly, and they really made our children (5 and 3) not only feel welcome, but special. Our rooms had awesome views, were very comfortable, and there were 2 swimming pools - one fresh water and one salt water - as well as the ocean. It meant that we could move with the time of day and enjoy the water without baking.

It is bit of a climb up to the breakfast area, but this was not an issue for us (3 generations). The breakfast is very good with plenty of choice including cereals, fruit, omelettes, breads etc.

The location is excellent. It is so peaceful in Chaweng Noi and after visiting Chaweng (only a very short cab ride or 30 min walk) I would only stay in Chaweng Noi (where Imperial Samui is). It is clean, peaceful, and beautiful - and it is much better to go and visit the noise and electronic music, if that is your thing, than have it in your face.

There are also some local vendors on the beach at the edge of the hotel, so we munched on roasted corn and chicken kebabs for lunch. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms closer down to the beach. We had 225 and 224 and they were excellent rooms.
