“Awesome Family Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Had a wonderful family hoilday with 3 teenagers for 1 week.
Accom in the deluxe family suite with 2 bedrooms, 1 for the kids and 1 for us parents and a lounge-room downstairs.
Enjoyed the calm and quiet of the location, already aware that the resort was dated, so didn't have any massive expectations for the rooms, but really enjoyed the daybed and the shared lounge-room in the suite.
Staff were really friendly and accomodating, enjoyed the happy hours, seafood night, beach front, beach huts, thai food at the restaurant and the breakfasts. Set up special tables on the beach for dinner - everything no problem.
Loads of space and free fast wifi for the teenagers.
Were part of a wedding that happened next door at Amari - went to visit them a few times - looked awful, hundreds of people all rammed around the pool and beach-front, towels booking the sunbeds from early in the morning. Didn't have any of that at the Kulaypan.
Overall a great experience and a great relaxing hoilday - thanks to the staff at the Kulaypan.

Room Tip: 224 & 225 for large family

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013 via mobile

We were surrounded by some fancier (and busier) places, but this was a pleasant sanctuary from the busy streets of Chewang. The rooms are stylish and clean. Bed firm and comfy. The pool is cooler than others, cocktails worthwhile. One thing; Breakfast was very expensive and not that great.
Staff were polite, friendly and very helpful.

After staying here in 2012 I have returned . Unfortunately the Hotel is now in desperate need of a major renovation. I feel that there is little up keep of the property at the moment. Whilst the gardens are still maintained and look lovely there needs to be continued attention detail whilst the hotel remains open until the redevelopement, afterall the guests that have made bookings to stay are entitled to the standard of amenities that won the Kulaypan the Trip Advisor award in 2012. There are maintence issues that in my opinion border on safety hazards. The timber decking on the second level is quite uneven , with wide cracks between the planks. The railing on some of the steps that lead to the upper level are not secured, whilst some of the steps have no railing at all. The walk way down to the beach has tree roots coming through the sand that are quite dangerous. There is a need for bigger umbrellas beside the pool as those in use at the moment offer little shade . The staff remain very helpful and cheerful and breakfast in the huts on the beach is great. Perhaps a change in breakfast options could be considered as there has been no change since I was here last year. The swimming pool is still the standout feature with its dark tiles giving the impression of swimming in a freshwater lake. The bar did have a happy hour where you could buy one drink and get one free sadly, it is now down to 30% off . I would say the only bar that offers such a deal as most of the others are 50% off. Its going to be interesting to see what the redevelopment will bring to this hotel and weather it will set itself up as 3-4 star rating or weather it transforms into a five star establishment

Didnt like the first room we had booked but upgraded to the poolside suite which was just steps from the beach. Enjoyed the lovely breakfasts in the beach huts each morning. Loved that we were at the quieter end of the beach away from the crowds. Air con broke down and was promptly fixed in the pouring rain 7.30 at night. Over all experience was very good. Room was a great size, bed was excellent, shower was spacious. The hotel is in need of a good refurb but we found we had everything we needed. Stayed ten days in room 300. Staff were efficient and had good English.

Room Tip: We paid less than $200 Australian per night in the high season for room 300 (poolside suite)

This hotel is going to be redeveloped. The land on the opposite side of the road is being redeveloped first so it would be a good idea to experience this older hotel with lots of artistic style before it becomes a luxurious expensive hotel. Some of the buildings looks a bit tired!! but the quietness, quirkiness of the rooms and spaciousness of the grounds make it a relaxing destination. Even though it is not on the best part of Chaweng Beach, for swimming, the hotel has a marvellous swimming pool. The rooms off the road are comfortable and have lounging couches on the small verandah. The breakfast is included in most rates and is served in authentic thatched bales right on the edge of the beach. The proximityt to cheap eating spots with delicious food, on the beach to the left of the hotel make for easy dinner choices. This hotel also includes cheap massages in thatched open air buildings right on the beach to the left of the hotel grounds.

Room Tip: Choose a garden bungalow not upstairs on th e road.

the resort is on the north side of the cheweng beach, which is a more relaxed area but still close to restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance (5-10 min. walk). You have to try the restaurant at the resort, because it's very cosy sitting in small open huts right down to the beach. Another italian restaurant that is very good and close to the hotel is Prego. The breakfast at the hotel is not the best though, but you can eat it.

The staff is very helpful and the rooms are very nice! The pool area is down to the beach as well, which is a nice area.

Room Tip: We stayed in a superior room with an ocean view. It was very nice!

On the first look, it looked like a deserted hotel. We thought that it was robbed...as there were no furniture in the lobby...the rooms are nice but there were mosquitoes and the location is not very good, it is not in the city center. the breakfast is very good and the tables are at the beach, the bed is comportable, the room size is good. The pool is very nice. but i would recommend on the Muang Chaweng as a better choice
