“Great complex”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2005

We didn't actually stay at the Amari, but spent enough time on the complex, and did see the rooms, that we still felt we could give a good opinion.

We thought the Amari was a great complex, we ate at their Italian Prego restaurant, and had a lovely meal, sipped cocktails in their uber trendy bar@C, and used their spa facilities, all were great. As non guests we couldn't use the pool, but it looked pretty great, and kids were using it well past the 8pm curfew of the other hotels (not sure if these kids were just getting away with it!)

What was lovely was the whole complex is lit up with subtle lights, so it looks very inviting at night.

Only thing i would stay is we were a bit disapointed when we saw the rooms, if you stay on the beach side the rooms are all indoors, so you go down small dark corridors to get to your room. All the other complexes we viewed the rooms opened up directly to the outside, giving a much more light open feel.

However, this resort is so big, that half is it is actually on the other side of the Chaweng beach road. These rooms for the same price were larger, and in more private hut-villa style, with a second swimming pool as well. Depends how much the 30 second walk over a very busy, noisy road bothers you to get to the beach.

We would definutley think about staying here on our next visit to Koh Samui.

We arrived at this hotel and found ourselves in a bungalow with a verandah overlooking the main road in Chaweng beach that cuts the hotel in two. It was very noisy so we paid for a better room and moved after just one night. Apart from that, I'd pretty much agree with the other reviewers: the room we moved to was very good. It's also good that there are two pools: the "back" pool was much quieter than the one by the beach. Breakfast in the hotel was OK, no more. We also ate in Prego, the hotel's Italian restaurant, and weren't disappointed, but the best restaurant in Koh Samui has to be the outstanding Betelnut.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Amari Palm Reef in September 2005. We loved it!! We were in one of the rooms over the road but this didn't prove any problem at all. I upgraded to a deluex room before we arrived and it was well worth it. The bathroom was lovely with a large shower and the bedroom was beautiful with a massive king size bed. I got to see one of the family rooms which was nowhere as nice as the room we had. The bathroom was really small compared to ours and the room not decorated as nicely. So I would definitely recommend upgrading if you can!!

The hotel grounds were very clean as were all the restaurants and bars. The staff were all very friendly.

The breakfast was lovely. I definitely put on weight because of eating too much every day!! Eating in the hotel worked out quite expensive though and it was no better than eating in cheaper restaurants outside the hotel. The food everywhere was lovely. We didn't go in one restaurant and have a dodgy meal. We did go to Prego (the hotels Italian restaurant) twice which was lovely - the only restaurant that seemed to do very tempting desserts!!

So all in all I would definitely recommend that you stay at this hotel. If I return to Koh Samui I would stay here again.

Sawadee Khrap Eveybody!
We got married and spent a glorious honeymoon at the Amari, I've travelled around and can honestly say I was blown away by everything.
It was perfect for honeymooners - away from the noise of Chaweng but well within walking distance. The service was impeccable - smiles everywhere and top class arrangements for our entertainment. They put fresh orchids around our room daily! Food and drink - especially the breakfast was heaven - imagine every sumptuous breakfast you ever wanted laid out ready for you to devour it was there. The onsite Prego Restuarant was equally top notch. Decor was superb with manicured gardens, 2 refreshing pools and cute lttle lizards that scurried about. We stayed in a spacious air conditioned Deluxe room with King Size Bed that we sure messed up (wink wink) but the room was cleaned and sprayed every day. Bathroom had gorgeous marble shower with powerful water pressure (adjustable too!) In room safe to store our valuables and a balcony over the lovely rear garden with its waterways and bridges. If you need to find a flaw, then the only thing I can suggest is the beach out front as it had a bit of flotsam and jetsam but this was minor - you could walk 2/3 mins down the beach and find a perfect spot to swim or tan.
My new wife and I will definitely return to this picturesque resort someday.
Khap Kun Khrap for listening! A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My husband and I went to the Amari for our honeymoon from 2nd September 2005 for seven nights and honestly it was FANTASTIC.

i dont usually write reviews but our wonderful experience at the amari palm reef resort has made me want to share how brilliant it was!

Prior to choosing Koh Samui as our honeymoon destination, i researched all the beach destinations in the region - including Bali, Malaysia, Thailand and the Phillipines - all beautiful as well, but neither my husband and i had been to koh samui or any of the thai island destinations before and we wanted to be adventurous.

i checked on trip advisor and this hotel had consistently good reviews, so we managed to get a really good rate from our travel agent (with contacts in singapore) and took a direct flight from singapore. this was a good move as we did not want to transit in bangkok airport and pay extra airport taxes (if you fly out of bankok on a domestic flight, you get charged airport tax).

anyway, when we arrived at the hotel, we found out to our delight that we had been upgraded from a deluxe room to a superior room! our travel agent had told the hotel that we were on our honeymoon. when checking in, we found out that we had been put in the new superior room complex which was not facing the sea. i was alittle disappointed in this inially, but this was before we actually saw our room.

when the concierge actually brought us to our room, we were both delighted and pleasently suprised to find a clean and spacious room with a balcony with a black granite bathroom which had a seperate bath and shower compartment ( i really dislike hotel rooms with a bath/ shower combination). the aircon was also individually controlled. they had also put rose and flower petals in the shape of a heart on the bed and had taken the trouble to give us a cake with "Happy Honeymoon"!!!!

in the end, we were so lucky not to have a seaview room as these were all next to the pool and would have probably been too noisy for us.

there are two swimming pools in this resort - one next to the beach and one (larger one) by the spa/ garden villas. the larger swimming pool was perfect for our morning swims before our sumptous buffet breakfast (which filled us both up for the whole day)! i have been to buffet breakfasts around the world and i have to say that this one matched a 5 star hotel breakfast! the quality of the food was very good and we never had anything which was not fresh for breakfast - including the fruit and freshly baked bread.

one of the other reviewers recommended a thai restaurant to the left of the hotel as you face the beach. we went! in the restaurant, patrons are seated in little huts. i have to say that this was one of our most memorable dinners in koh samui and the food was excellent, spicy thai food. the ice cream was home made and excellent too.

we also ate at pregos, the hotel italian which was nice.

anyway, the pool by the beach was just perfect. you can walk along the beach and grab yourself an oil massage for about 300 baht - well worth it! the hotel also has masseurs in a hut by the beach but i didn't try the hotels masseurs. lying in a beach hut and hearing the beach lap in front of you whilst being massagedis just one of life's greatest pleasures :)

the beach was so perfect - except of course like the other reviewers here will tell you, it was not swimmable. and yes, go down to the beach at about 3pm with your camera to capture your "kodak moment"!! and not once did we ever feel hassled by anyone when on the beach.

the hotel room was kept spotless by the hotel staff! absolutely no complaints whatsoever.

we even used the hotel laundry - we had 20 pieces of laundry washed and ironed by the hotel and put into individual plastic bags for 999baht - a definate bargain which we were so glad we did as we went to singapore for the weekend after our honeymoon and it was nice to arrive with fresh clothes in our bag.

if you decide to go shopping the shops are literally a five minute walk away. bargain hard!

oh, and a tip - arrange for the hotel to pick you up from the airport. airport transfers arranged by the hotel when we were there were only 200 baht per person, and they will send you in a hotel mini van, which seemed to us to be from a nice and well maintained fleet. our mistake when we arrived was to assume that we would be able to get a local cab . in fact, when we came out of arrivals at the airport, we found out that our flight was the last to arrive that night and there was only one minivan cab left in the parking lot. we ended up taking that minivan cab which was the kind of van which you have to hold your breath every few seconds!!! that minivan cab cost the same as the hotel mini van.

it was a perfect honeymoon destination for us. the weather was perfect - it only rained on the last day we were there. the beach was lovely for lazing around and of course, the hotel was perfect, unpretentious and just so comfortable.

i thorougly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to go to koh samui

We spent seven days at Amari Palm Reef last month, and we must say we had a very good experience. The hotel room was clean and comfortable, with pretty silent air conditioning, wide bed, new furnitures, everything in a nice Thai style. The family bungalow we had was located into a beautiful tropical garden; it was next to the street, but we did not have any problem with the noise. The only problem is that the main road separate the concierge, pool and restaurant area by the most of bungalows, hence when we went to the beach, we had to cross this road. This is the only thing of the hotel we really disliked.
The swimming pools were gorgeous, we used to go to the one next to the beach; it has also a jacuzzi with direct access from the pool. The beach is a white-sand type, not too wide but also not crowded; unfortunately, the seawater was pretty low for the most of the day, so if you wanted to really swim you had to walk in low waters for some like 300 meters!
The hotel features a nice restaurant, where we had very good seafood at a quite reasonable price, and a morning breakfast with a wide choice of American, European or Asian breakfast; quality of the food at a very high notch, in our opinion. They also have an atmosphere bar by the pool, with good music and a reasonable choice of drinks.
Hotel staff was very kind and attentive, especially the guys at the pool and the ladies at the restaurant. In general, we recommend this resort to anybody looking for a period of relax, with no village animation around, doing absolutely nothing!

Having spent our honeymoon visiting a few resorts in Thailand, Koh Samui was by far and away the best place we visited, this was partly because of the Amari Palm Reef- from the pool boys to the management, all the staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful- nothing is too much trouble for them, the hotel and its grounds are very well maintained and spotlessly clean, we stayed in a deluxe room across the road from the beach, the room was fabulous with maid service twice per day! 2 pools to choose from and we tended to stay at the pool on our side of the road as the other pool had more kids, the restaurant's are fabulous with special mention to Prego the Italian restaurant, a bit more expensive than other stand alone restaurants but not as expensive as in other hotels. Breakfast was incredible, everything you could want to eat and more. Everything is on your doorstep in Amari Palm Reef only a short hop from airport(we could see airport from our front door!) Dive centre onsite has very good & attentive British staff. All aspects of hotel highly recommended for couples and families alike.
