“Pretty good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

We stayed at the Amari Palm reef over new years eve 2011/12. We booked a standard room but asked for a poolside one on the upper level with a balcony.

The rooms were nicely appointed, the location is fine. The pools are good. There is a small gym (which could use an upgrade). Service was average, nothing exceptional... Buffet breakfast is excellent.

The Gala dinner was ok... A bit over kill with the dancing ladyboys though... it was fun for the first 20minutes but it just went on and on and on... I made it to 12.15 and then I went to bed as I was a bit bored... The fire show was pretty cool though.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the standard next to the pool over the side (I believe it is a number "6" i...

I stayed at Amari in February 2012 and was so happy with my stay. We were welcomed by friendly staff and as our room was not yet ready, received free drinks at the bar while we waited. Once in the room, I was impressed with the overall look and feel of the room and so happy to finally have a large shower!

Although the pool areas were always very busy (get there early to secure a sun bed) the setting was beautiful. The front pool was right on the beach and was well set out. I highly recommend the spa treatments as well - they were well priced and the perfect touch for a relaxing holiday.

Breakfast was excellent and we ate at the restaurant across the road, Pregos, which was also outstanding.

Highly recommended to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday.

Thank you to all of the staff who were so welcoming on our return visit for our first year anniversary at the Amari palm reef resort! Martin and his wonderful staff go the extra mile making you feel like family! Nothing is too much to ask. From the rooms, to the massages, to the food and the location all rating full stars! We look forward to returning to visit both paradise and the people associated with the Amari that make it perfect!

The hotel was recommended by our Travel Agent in the UK and after checking the reviews on Trip Advisor dediced to book.

Everything that has been said previously is true. The pools in the hotel are great, the rooms are nice and large and their is a room to suit every budget and every need. Check-in was quick, painless and you are shown to your room by one of the Reception staff.

We were on the opoosite side of the road to the beach which is nice and quiet.Deluxe rooms are huge with massive beds and bathrooms, the only slight negative here are the pillows, one is too low and two mean your neck is at 60 degree angle! Air conditioning is great to help cool you down after a hot day on a sun lounger

The hotel is in a great location for the beach and other amenities in Chewang only a few minutes walk along the road or beach which is well lit at night.

Breakfast is great with a massive choice of food from Oriental to Fresh Fruit to a stodgy fry-up.

The beach BBQ's are great too even thought they are quite expensive compared to other restaurants in Koh Samui.

The only other citicism I have of the hotel is that they need to ensure both the bathroom and beach towels are cleaned using a stronger detergent. Quite often the towels used would have heavy staining, however, towards the end of our stay it appeared the older towels were being replaced with new, fluffier and clean replacements.

Access to other parts of the island is easy using the local pick-up trucks which are reasonably priced and good fun to travel in.

It is well worth visiting the Fishermans village in Bophut on Friday night whch has a great street market serving local foods, cockatils and the usual array of fake designer goods. Bophut has a more relaxed vibe than Chewang and is well worth visitng.

Koh Samui is a great place to visit, if you want a R&R holiday it will meet your needs, if you want the party atmosphere then Chewang will meet your needs, if you want some great Thai hospitality and great scenery then Koh Samui is your place.

Was pleased with this hotel and happy with my choice.

I always think its interesting to see how hotels sort out problems and recover from mistakes etc. In this instance despite the fact we had booked a transfer from the airport to the hotel, there was no one waiting to greet us. I phoned the hotel from the airport and after some "hanging around" someone arrived to meet us.

In response, the hotel was very apologetic regarding what had happened and provided both free transfers and an upgrade for the duration of our stay. A nice gesture and greatly appreciated. I am struggling to remember the name of the lady who sorted this out for us (Surnaya??…probably got that wrong..sorry!!) but she was charming and very, very helpful both on this occasion and throughout our stay.

The room itself was very comfortable. Housekeeping was also to a good standard.

Breakfast was excellent….enormous choice and good efficient service in the restaurant.

If hotel management reads this post there is one matter I think (I hope) you will address. Despite your stated policy of not allowing guests to reserve sun beds this is exactly what is happening. I think you need to start implementing your own policy and stamp this out. There are a lot of Europeans in the hotel and I think this is a practice they bring from their holiday experiences in Spain and the like. Its rude and ultimately impacts on everyones’s enjoyment. Please address the issue.

Other than that little whinge a great place to stay.

We have just returned from 2 fantastic weeks at the Amari. Being a travel agent I really did my research on finding the best hotel. We were certainly not disappointed.

The journey ran smoothly, good connection through Bangkok, with a short connection time and still no problems with luggage. Great service at Samui airport and then a really smooth check in at hotel. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and taken to our room, this was across the road, but to be honest not a problem at all, and if I say so probably the best place to be as its quiet and away from the busy pool and beach. the room was beautiful with all the amenities needed. Lovely bathroom and huge shower as well. The bed was huge and so so comfy. The cleaners did a great job everyday, and they even come in every night and spray the room with mozzie spray.... Nice touch.

Breakfast was everything you expected. They had something for everyone all very tasty.

We only had breakfast in the hotel, the beach buffet looked amazing but didn't get the chance to experience it. Decided to spend the days by the pool near the beach. If you pick the right sunbeds you can even pick up the free wi fi from them. Comfy sunbeds and huge free beach towels.

The location of the hotel could not have been better. Throw a left out of the hotel and you get to all the restaurants, bars and shops. Maybe a 5 min walk. We found some lovely restaurants, all very reasonable and the food is amazing. Not a icky tummy once!!! Some great bars too, the ice bar was an experience and ark bar on a Wednesday is a must. There is so much choice.

If you take a left from the beach the are some lovely restaurants for a nice chilled meal. 'your place' was a hit. We ate there a few times, the jumbo BBQ prawns we're lovely.

You have to experience the Thai massages. I must have had 6 in 2 weeks. I went to the one on the beach, just left from the hotel. They are so lovely and really friendly. £4 for a hour is amazing value.

I would not hesitate in reccomending this hotel. It really is a great find. If I ever go back to samui this is where I would stay. Think we may try koh tao next. Went on a snorkelling trip there and that's beautiful too.

Ignore any bad reviews, take my word for it and just book the Amari Palm Reef. You will not be disappointed.
