“Romantic Dinner on the Sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

Since we're staying at the Chaweng Regent Resort, breakfast was at Chom Talay (translates to "view of the sea") every morning. They serve a terrific buffet breakfast with an omelette bar (so again, my husband was able to order his 4-egg white omelette), and a bread/pastry section with an array of jams and spreads (including Nutella!).

At lunch, we were able to order salads and sandwiches while lounging on sunbeds on the beach. It was a bit tough to order drinks off-menu (like vodka martini... they kept bringing traditional gin martini) so either learn the terms in Thai or pick something from the suggested offerings. Or just have a glass of wine.

For dinner, we opted to treat ourselves to the "Romantic Dinner on the Sea," where they literally set up a raised four-poster pavilion 25-30 feet from the beach, complete with a romantic table for two, flowing white curtains, candles and lanterns. They even presented us with a customized menu with our names on it. The dinner was prepared by a Thai chef and was a seafood feast: Oysters Rockefeller, Tom Yum Soup with Prawn, Lobster Thermidor and a huge Char-Grilled Lobster, served with a bottle of sparkling wine (you can choose red, white or sparkling). Dessert was a delicious sticky rice concoction topped with sweet coconut ice cream and garnished with mango slices.

We arrived at 6:30, just before sunset, and took a few photos before wading in the shallow water to cross over to the pavilion. As the night progressed, the water level started to rise so that by the end of the dinner, the warm water was ankle-deep, gently lapping at our feet. It was an unexpectedly delightful novelty. We were safely retrieved via canoe at the end of the evening.

Chom Talay is the ONLY place in Koh Samui that offers this type of service, and they only have one seating a night. Highly recommended for special occasions or "just because." Prepare to drop about B10,000, including tip (converts to a little over $100/person). Worth every penny. One of the most unforgettable dinners I've ever experienced.

“Authentic, fresh and delicious every time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

We discovered this amazing little restaurant on day 3 of our 4 day visit to Bang Niang beach. A charming spot on the beach complete with beach loungers and umbrellas and a fabulous massage spot, ask for Mot

We ate Pad Ka Pao chicken, Pad Thai, the mixed salad, fried fish fillet with chilli sauce. Each dish was more delicious than the one before. The mango shake was also incredible. I can't rate this little gem highly enough

Don't be in a rush as everything is made fresh, chopped, stir fried, on the spot. Go there and enjoy
