“Nice but needs far more attention to detail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 3 nights.
We had had great communication via email with the Manager, Pokkie, who was very helpful.
However, our pool villa was a huge disappointment. It was filthy!! We dipped our toes in it and that was about it! The not so private pool (we were overlooked by several windows) takes up nearly the whole frontage of the villa, leaving no room for sunbeds. There is a day bed in the garden which gets the sun from 7-9am, after that, its in the shade all day. There is no bar and no communal pool. Basically, theres nothing here! The rooms were clean enough as was the bathroom. Bedding was not changed at all during our stay.
Shuttle service to the sister hotel is offered but you need to make your own way back up the hill.
We knew that the beach was not accessible but when we booked that didnt bother us as we thought we would have the use of our own CLEAN pool, which sadly, was not the case. TV didnt work either for part of our stay. We has to ask 4 times before it was repaired.
As for breakfast! Dont bother! We waited over 30 minutes to be served a cold omelette, a piece of cheap processed ham, 3 stale croissants and some cold toast. There was tea and coffee available but the milk was off!
All in all, I suppose you get what you pay for. We paid £230 for 3 nights, which is cheap for a pool villa on samui, but as the pool was so dirty, we paid £230 for a room for 3 nights, which is expensive on samui.
Would I return! No.
Would I recommend Pawanthorn? Not unless you dont mind swimming in dirty water, drinking curdled milk, being along way from anywhere else, not being able to sunbathe.........

We stayed here for 2 nights in the pool villa. The pool villa itself is beautiful, very spacious and well lit. Since the villa is stand-alone, it's also very private. The room itself is very nice, but they have a few areas they can improve. For example, wifi was very unreliable which made it difficult to get much done on the computer one night when we were trying to figure out our itinerary. Because Pawanthorn doesn't have a lot of rooms, there doesn't seem to be a dedicated front desk receptionist. There is someone always available to help, such as serving breakfast, but her English was somewhat limited and we had some communication issues on getting a ride to the airport (she thought we said noon, but it should have been 2:30) and getting repair done in the room (toilet didn't flush well when we arrived). We knew the location would be inconvenient, but in the end, It also felt a bit lonely as you don't see many other guests there either (we saw one other couple once in 2 nights).

We stayed here for 3 nights in august in the pool villas and were really happy with the standard of the room and the magnificent private pool that everyone has. The hotel is outside of chaweng and a taxi is needed to get anywhere as there are no restaurants nearby and there are no catering facilities (other than breakfast) at the hotel. The hotel only provides 2 shuttle buses per day into Chaweng which in my opinion should be more frequent. They also do not collect you from chaweng leaving you to get a taxi back although this only costs 200baht. The hotel is nice, quiet and very private so if that is what you are after then you'll love it. Although the private pools are amazing, they take up most of the garden space so there is very little (if any) room to actually sunbathe in the garden, which is something that I greatly missed. I also felt that the customer service could be improved. Some didnt speak very much English and no one provided us with any information about the hotel and breakfast etc, and there is no information booklet in the room. Our tv in our room also didnt work for the whole time we were there, and although this wasn't the end of the world for us, the hotel's excuse was that the network was temporarily down (not sure how true this was given that it didn't work in the whole 3 days we were there) and noone offered to come and look at it.

All in all though, the private pool is amazing and if you want somewhere quiet away from shops, restaurants and people then this would be a good choice.

Loved my stay at the Pawanthorn in January 2013 and we didn't want to leave. Complimentary shuttle to and from the airport and Chaweng Beach (via the sister hotel – Montein House). The hotel was so quiet and we hardly saw any other guests while we were there. The staff were really friendly including Pokkie the Villa’s manager. The rooms were very spacious and modern. You can’t swim at the beach at the hotel as it is very rocky but you can get the free shuttle into Chaweng and you get to use Montein’s House sunbeds and facilities. When we were there all of the sunbeds and umbrellas were taken but the pool staff were happy to go and collect more for us. We also liked catching a taxi to Kandaburi – few minute drive and 100 baht ride. I have stayed there before and it is nice to walk through to the beach and walk into Chaweng on the sand. Go to your place restaurant on the beach near Kandaburi as it is a beautiful, cheap and friendly restaurant. Would I stay at the Pawanthorn again? YES! Would I recommend it to anyone? YES!

Although we were initially disappointed that we weren't picked up from the airport when we were told we would be, the rest of the stay more than made up for it.

The staff couldn't have been more attentive and friendly, the bungalow with private plunge pool we had was immaculate and finished to a lovely standard.

I went with my girlfriend for a quiet getaway so we were far enough away from the main Chaweng strip, but plenty close enough to plenty of other goood bars restaurants and beaches!

We would happily go here again!

A perfect stay!

We stayed in one of the pool villas.

A hidden gem! Away from the crowded areas which made it a very quiet and relaxing stay. But... easy to commute to the restaurants/bars and life near Chaweng beach if you want to go. I would say this is a perfect place for any couple or honeymooners as you feel alone on the resort and will hardly see any other guests.

Has a large king bed in the middle of the room with a shower bathroom. The pool is about 1.3m deep

Hospitality was great! Pocky and other staff were very helpful in giving advice on the activities we wanted to do on the island.
