“We loved it and if we travel back to Thailand we will be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2011

We only found this hotel on our last day in Thailand, if you can afford it this is a great place to stay, we were lucky enough to get a half price deal. We spent 3 weeks in thailand visiting Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui. Out of all of the places we stayed this was the best. The rooms were spacious and well equipped, the staff were genuinely interested in their guests and there was a great atmosphere amongst them, nothing was too much trouble. The spa was our best experience with massage and treatments throughout our entire stay and believe me we tried them all!

Have just enjoyed 4 nights in the jacuzzi-suite (with warm water) at The Sarann.

We were a bit worried upon booking this hotel after reading some of the earlier very negative reviews - but we got a great last minute deal through hotels.com and gave it a shoot - which we certainly did not regret.

Yes, the hotel is right next to a busy road - but we stayed in 307 right out to it and we could only hear traffic if we listened for it. Our room was nicely decorated and very clean. We used the jacuzzi everyday for afternoon relaxation and can highly recommend it.

Yes, the swimming pool is not olympic-size but has a beatiful view of the bay and thank god not heated as required by another user. If you want warm water, you can go to the beach....

The Restaurant serves great breakfast-buffet incl. chef cooked different style eggs, yougurt, fresh fruit, potatos, rice etc etc. The prices for lunch, dinner and pool-serving here we found very high compared to thai-standards. The view from the breakfast tables is spectacular.

Finally we found the standard of service to be very high. Location of hotel could be better, but we did not want to live at the main road in cheweng. Shuttlebus from hotel to centre at 5pm suited us perfectly and you could get a taxi for 100bath home.

All in all we are very satisfied with our stay - I guess it is all about expectations.

Room Tip: got a last minute deal through hotels.com.

Short version: We stayed here for 5 nights on our honeymoon. This hotel was at the middle of our price range, and we had a free upgrade to a jacuzzi suite, but overall our stay was pretty average. I think there are better places out there.

Location: know that this is not on the main beach in Chaweng - you have to take the hotel's shuttle (which leaves/picks up pretty infrequently) or else take taxis there (pricey by Thai standards). It also does not overlook a great part of the beach - the rocks are kinda drabby looking and there are some sketchy looking pipes around the beach area. However, the adjacent beach (very easily walkable) in front of the neighboring hotels is pretty nice -- quieter than Chaweng's main beach (though, not as spectacular), and a decent selection of restaurants. There is also a market across the street.

Room: Was OK but kinda dark, again nothing spectacular. Nice bathtub, but the water was kind of brown. As for the jacuzzi, it only had cold water, so it was like a jetted cold water bath... I don't think it would be worth the extra money if you had to pay for it.

Service: Kinda bad for Thailand, average for hotels in the U.S. We laughed about how unfriendly the girls at check in were. It didn't really bother us, but then again, for the same price the service was outstanding at other hotels. They did give us a free fruit basket since it was our honeymoon.

Food: This was the worst part. The breakfast was so boring and gross. Nobody eats at the hotel's restaurant (probably b/c the breakfast is a grim preview), but luckily as mentioned above there are a lot of nearby places to eat.

The swimming pool is nice but there aren't many lounge chairs, and people try to reserve them early in the morning, which I find incredibly obnoxious.

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and I love it! Having travelled to Samui many times and experienced a few different hotels and resorts, this is definitely the best of the best. Great atmosphere, superb service and luxuriously beautiful rooms and facilities. The restuarant is an added bonus - the food is fabulous and not expensive.

This place is the perfect retreat for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The last massage I had at their spa was possibly the best I've ever had. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all those looking to be spoilt in a 'top star' yet boutique and very personal environment.

Love it, loved it, loved it!!

Room Tip: The pool rooms are fabulous!

Ever since we set foot in the Sarann, we couldn't stop saying "WOW!" The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, picturesque. We booked a Jacuzzi Suite through Agoda and were upgraded to a Jacuzzi Villa which was beautiful!! I am not sure where people that have reviewed here got the impression of disrepair or "cheesy" furniture - everything about our room was top notch. And the bed was huge and so comfy!!! And having a private, outdoor jacuzzi was romantic and wonderful!

The breakfast is the best we had in Thailand - eggs made to order and I thought the poached were actually quite good! The baked selections and noodles and rice varied slightly every day, but the quality was the same.

The service is impeccable and attentive - we took advantage of the wonderful cocktails each day at happy hour, and ate at the restaurant 2 out of the 3 nights were were there - it was slightly pricier than the restaurants on the beach but soooooooo delicious!!

The infinity pool is small but perfect and has a magnificent view of the sea and the island.

The hotel has a free shuttle service into Chaweng twice each day, we took it once, spent an hour in Chaweng and then walked back through the beach which was long but nice. I cannot tell you how happy I was with my choice to stay outside of Chaweng!!! If you are there as a couple, the R & R is priceless and it's very easy to get into town.

There is not a private beach because it's set up on rocks - but you walk down some steps and you are on the lovely white beach of Samui where you can either put down the towels they provide you with or stroll to one of the resorts or cafes and use their chairs.

I got a treatment at the spa which was nice, though pricey, even with the early bird discount. There are many massage places beach front.

Check out the Marco Polo restaurant up the road for dinner - amazing Italian food and very reasonable!! (See a separate review)

I stayed in Samui in Chaweng once before and left unimpressed even though the hotel was beautiful. The stay at the Sarann will forever put Samui as one of my favorite destinations!!!

Room Tip: Definitely worth splurging for the jacuzzi suite!

We love not only the hotel but the whole Samui. This place offers many trips, we borrow a car to discover the island. We have also visited Ko Kao which offers excellent diving or snorkeling all of this we have managed to do with our 2 kids (4 and 1 year old). Other trips we did were elephant ridding, fishing trip and visiting aquarium in Lamai.

And of cause we love beach and swimming in the sea. The Sarann hotel has excellent position on not very busy beach and close enough to visit the night life in Chaweng.

I had been there a couple of time and everytime in Samui it must be the Sarann. Not only accessibility but also tranquility, it gave an experience of small resort yet once in the room you would find a spacious bedroom in a unique Thai decoration style. I really really LOVE the bed where you could sleep in 8 hours straight or more..peacefully. Also its spa gave a nice and polite service in various type of facial and body - that was provided in a reasonable price. Overall I quite like it!
