We are currently staying at Amari Palm Reef Hotel that this restaurant adjoined to so this seemed like an easy win, eating at the reputed 'best Italian on the Island'.
It is a lovely looking restaurant, the staff are excellent and the food is presented well, however, the best way to describe this place, in my opinion is 'style over function'
I had the Risotto with Italian sausage. The risotto was cooked well but incredibly bland. The so called Italian sausage tasted of pork and no more. It was a bowl of creamy arborio rice with a few pieces of pork sausage stuck in. It looked lovely but failed to deliver.
The Tiramisu once again looked perfect but was tasteless. Now I understand that a Tiramisu is an individual dish, in that every chef or cook has their own recipe. In Rome I ordered it several times and no two times was it the same. But the base of this tiramisu had no taste. No coffee, no marsala, very bland.
Now I would have scored this lower than three on my experience but my wife's Puttanesca was quite nice.
The reason for the harsh critique is the price we paid for this meal. Clearly the dearest meal we have had thus far in Koh Samui, which is fine if we experienced a quality Italian Restaurant. Prego is reputed to be just that and have set their prices accordingly, however in my opinion it leaves a lot to be desired in the taste department.
