“A nice second time trip as well”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

Excellent Location right on the beach which is also quite secluded and quiet. Excellent service. Rooms and facilities could just do with a bit of a facelift as there are getting quite dated/jaded now. Also the breakfast spread is amazing as are dinner meals as we found out which we ordered in the room

Room Tip: Chose this for a relaxing holiday close enough to the action but yet far enough to relax!

If only we could turn back time!
This hotel was very disappointing.
First of all they had closed down all of the restaurants and the lobby bar. The only place to get food or a drink was the poolside bar. Bad food and drinks with unfriendly service! We ordered a cocktail and I could not taste the alcohol so asked for a stronger cocktail and got charged double price.
The included breakfast was terrible. Once a dish ran out it wasn't replaced so you had to get there early or else everything had been eaten Old plastic furniture with holes in it was used for outdoor tables. Definitely not what you expect for a 4.5 star hotel.
The only upside was the rooms were big and the outdoor shower was nice.
We changed hotels half way through our trip to the Le Meridian and were promised our money back for the remaining nights bar one as a cancelation fee. We have waited 8 weeks for the refund only to be told they are not giving us a refund.
Please do not stay here. No value for money and there are much nicer hotels in Koh Samui.

I think a beachfront villa is the best accomodation in this hotel, but the most expencive, of course. The hotel is beautiful, clean and quite. The beach is nice and good for swimming. Reseption managers are very helpful. Food for breakfast is quite good. Three times a week there were different evening parties. We took part in seafood party on the beach. The food was average and the band played average too. So I think the price was too high for this party. Maybe some people should know that the hotel is situated on the hill, it's not so easy to get up and down, but it's short treck. The hotel isn't so close to center of Chaweng as a I thought. It's 20-30 minutes by foot and 5-7 minutes by car.

If you want luxury, quietness and relax in a close vicinity of the vociferous center of Chaweng, the New Star is definitly the best resort for you. It is apart from the crowdy center, (the taxi service is perfect, 200 bath is the fixed price to and from the city center, but is very close, it is a walking distance), the beach is cowered with soft white sand, the water is warm in the sea and in the pool also, and the garden is precious. We had a cottage, spaciuos, clean, well decorated. Most of the cottages looks to the sea trough palm trees. It is luxury at the best way. The hotel services are excelent, the staff is helpful, and the hotel restaurant serves fine dining dishes with affordable prices. The unique thing that i must mention: the resort is situated in a hillside, so you sould walk up and down in a quiet hard steeply way to reach the different facilities of the resort. And no signals on the paths, so in the first night we spent some minutes to localizate our cottage in the hill...

Room Tip: The Cottages are better option even than the Villas...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

We stayed here in December 2012 for our honeymoon.

The room was nicely decorated with rose petals and we received complimentary champagne and cake.

Our room was a Palm deluxe balcony room, wish was vert spacious and modern.

The pool was great, although no where near enough sun beds and the beach location was nice even though the waves were bigger than expected.

The shuttle to Chaewang was handy but would be nice to be complimentary. We read on a lot of previous distance the section in Chawang was walking distance but we believe it is too far to walk.

Pros - room made nice for our honeymoon, champagne and chocolate cake provided, nice pool, plenty of beds by beach, good breakfast, staff were very friendly, comfortable bed , free wifi in the room

Cons - many Mosquitos in the room, shuttle should be complimentary, needs more beds by the pool, walls are very thin in palm room and we could hear upstairs and next door, food in the resort overpriced.

Tip - go to the restaurant right next to the entrance of the hotel on the main road. Really good and cheap food.

Room Tip: We stayed in the palm room but if you can afford to a beach villa looks amazing

I attended a dinner at the Lime restaurant in the New Star Hotel last week. I was very impressed with the presentation, quality and delicious flavour of the food. The fresh produce was mouth watering and the pasta bar creative and oh so fresh. The setting was spectacular.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here for the first 6 nights of our honeymoon. We were upgraded to a villa and our room was beautifully decorated with flower petals. We also received a honeymoon cake and bottle of sparkling on our first night. The airport transfer was also great and very reasobably priced.

The location of this resort is amazing. This was my second visit to koh samui but first time at new star. We were close enough to the action of chaweng but on a much more beautiful and serene section of beach. When we felt like being more amongst the action we simply caught a red truck into chaweng or walked in.

The gardens of the resort are also really lovely. The pool is also really nice. We looked around a lot of resorts in the area and the beach and pool of newstar are definitely one of the best!

Our room was huge, clean and comfortable. The furnishings were really lovely. There wasn't much lighting though and the tv channels were very limited. The shower was massive but not great water pressure. We also tried ordering room service on a few occasions and could not get through so gave up and went out for dinner. Honestly though these things weren't really an issue for us as we were enjoying our stay so much. We did notice some poolside and beachside cottages and they looked really nice as well.

Breakfast was included and was a buffet. The food was quite nice. Not the best Buffet I've had but we certainly didn't go hungry. We ate by the pool on several occasions for lunch and dinner and the food we ordered was delicious and very reasonably priced. For a special dinner we walked to Dr Frogs on the cliff at the southern end of chaweng noi beach. The view and food was really great and worth the extra cost.

The staff at newstar were also so helpful and always very friendly. My husband loved the saluting security guards at the front gate and Pu our driver from the airport. We were both so impressed with the Thai hospitality we experienced.

We can't wait to visit koh samui and newstar resort again it was definitely a highlight of our trip and a wonderful way to start married life!
