“STILL UNEQUALLED”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

This is my third stay at the Anantara Lawana in under two years so that should probably tell you all you need to know. But, just for clarification, this is a truly delightful property, near enough to the "buzz" of Chaweng (should you want it) but far enough away to be blissfully chilled and relaxing. If your pockets are deeper, there may be "better" hotels on Samui but take it from a seasoned traveller around South East Asia, you'd have to go a long way to find a more charming and comfortable hotel and spa resort. And don't get me started on the truly wonderful staff who, in all honesty, are largely the reason this particular customer returns...and hopes to continue to do so in the future. A gem! Keep up the high standards guys.

Room Tip: Because of its beautiful setting, the hotel has a lot of steps which the elderly or less able-bodied...

We visited this hotel for 10 nights in Jan 14 and had a lovely time. The local night life nearby is manic, a real experience that bombards the senses; great evenings in a great country. However, once you have experienced the delights of Chaweng town then it is simply glorious to return to this hotel which is a tranquil oasis at all times.

Our greatest praise is for the staff who were always extreemly pleasant with a warmth which made our visit special.

We highly recommend this hotel for those that enjoy the finer things but equally want to explore the delights outside this oasis.

Thanks to all the staff

This was the best holiday we have had in Thailand. We stayed for 10 nights in early february in a deluxe pool villa to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The staff were exceptional as was the location right on the beach. The Ocean Kiss Restaurant on the beach was lovely for brekkie every morning. We celebrated our anniversary at Treetops Resraurant and it was a truly memorable experience. We also celebrated Valentines Day by having a very romantic meal on the beach. The staff go to so much trouble to make you feel welcome. I would recommend this to anyone!

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe pool vlla and it was lovely. Pool was huge & shared byonly 4 villa's.

We stayed at the Anatara for five nights during our honeymoon, and it was a wonderful place to experience the beach and a bit of night lift at the same time. We took an AMAZING cooking class with one of their chef's - Joy - and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed in a villa overlooking the ocean, and the views were spectacular. The breakfast was also top notch.

Room Tip: Choose Deluxe Lawana Room for the view and Deluxe Plunge Pool Room for privacy.

I have just returned from a delightful 8 days at this hotel and would like to reinforce the very positive comments made by other visitors.

Firstly, the location is excellent being about 15/20 mins walk from Chaweng or, to be precise, 2 minutes (and only 200 Baht) by taxi from the front of the hotel. Taxis were always made available immediately by the reception staff – indeed the security guards on the front gate would even stop the traffic to let guests go to the shops across the road. In a nutshell, the hotel is peaceful and quiet and only a couple of minutes away from the delightful chaos of Chaweng.

As with all top hotels there was a high profile management presence and on Friday a “meet the staff” cocktail party was arranged. At all levels there was a combination of courtesy, professionalism and friendliness – I suppose this was typified by the delightful young lady who showed guests to their seats at breakfast, who, when I was talking some farewell photos at 6.30 am before departure, asked politely if I could wait 2 minutes while she put her lipstick on!

I would recommend the rooms with a pool and sea view. I suspect from other comments made that these have the best privacy and certainly my room could not be faulted in this or other respects. I did not, by the way, see any bugs at all (and in Thailand there isn’t much one can do about mosquitoes anyhow). Breakfasts were excellent with plenty of options. The food was well presented, hot and fresh. The service both here and in the pool bar was excellent.

I spent far too much time (and money) in the spa and would like to thank the very entertaining and professional manager Annie and the therapist Kai. I especially enjoyed their signature treatment, the Coconut Paradise, which lasts 200 minutes.

All in all, a highly enjoyable time and money well spent. I would certainly return.

Room Tip: Pool villas with sea view recommended

Overall, wow, we were very impressed. They have a fantastic team - we booked the hotels own limo service for approx £15 (bargain). Found the driver easily and he helped with bags at the airport, the car was a lovely Mercedes 4x4. The security doorman stopped traffic and helped us cross the road at night - he also gave us a good recommendation for dining options outside the hotel. Guest services were fantastic in arranging a quad bike tour for us - loved that they offered to add this to our room account. Housekeeping did a perfect job, always unassuming and careful to ring the bell and get your permission to come in.

The room - I really feel the upgrade to pool access was worth the money. Immaculately clean, insect free, high quality solid furnishings. Huge semi-outdoor bathroom has the wow factor. Oversize tub was great - only problem is with the low water pressure it took nearly 45mins to fill.

The breakfast - again wow, best I've ever had. Staff so friendly and smiley. Loved the fresh juice bar, most places have an omelette station but a juice bar is rare! Food was well presented, fresh and warm. Loved that they use charcoal to keep things warm - it gave the bacon a fantastic flavour. Only minor critisism would be the sausages, while suited to the asian guests - they are not quite to the taste of the UK, American and Auzzy folks - would love to see a more meaty sausage but no big deal. Great atmosphere and fantastic outdoor setting at the breakfast restaurant.

Really also just wanted to say, love the small touches. The towel art - elephant on the bed was very impressive. The selection of soaps and bath salts was also impressive. The fresh fruit in the room was good too.

Location was good - not in the centre of Chaweng but 20min walk or 2mins in a taxi if you wanted to go there. A few nice restaurants just across the road from the hotel if you want to dine out. Try a place called Larder for international cuisine, - expensive but really good. The local Thai restaurants were also good and very cheap. The red thai curry and chicken satay at the place immediately across the road was epic. - think that place was called Anong.

I will be recommending this hotel to anyone heading to Samui.

Room Tip: pool access room - you will get a villa where the doors open out onto a huge pool. you share this p...

We stayed 19 nights in this absolutlely wonderful hotel. Staff and service the best. Well worth upgrading to a villa with own private pool. Great position and only 5 minutes tuk tuk to busy Chawang. Then went on to Singapore-worth a look but not a holiday. Travelbag did not include any transfers which is disgusting when spending so much on a holiday. Would thoroughly recommend Anantara, but don't use Travelbag.

Room Tip: Villa with own pool. Ask for sunny one.
