“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013 via mobile

Having grew up in the area I was looking forward to my first visit to the horse in over 10 years. I was sad to firstly see that there is now a charge to climb the horse and secondly the very top level has been closed. We then visited the animal park which was a disgrace, it is extremely run down with very little wildlife. Nice spot to stop for a picnic or a stretch of the legs but would not make a special trip just to visit this icon.

We are at the end of a $10 000 upgrade of the safety standards of the Rocking Horse, which is why the top was still closed. Added to the more than $20 000 a year for insurance and normal maintenance, surely a gold coin donation to offset some of these costs and keep the Horse open is not too much to ask?

Regarding the animal park, we try to create as natural an environment for the animals as possible by leaving trees and branches where they fall, where they provide shelter and hiding places for the wallabies and kangaroos. We also try to keep it affordable by not charging an entry fee. If you are looking for manicured lawns, caged animals and a hefty entry fee, the Zoo is probably a better option. We have been working with the Native Animal Rescue group, and have more wallabies and kangaroos now than at any time in the last 10 years.

“Family fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Great fun for the family, visitors and for shopping for unique gifts. The kids love the Big Rocking Horse, the animals and the wooden toys. You can eat there too, which is just an added bonus.

“For the kids!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

We stopped in here as part of a tour group - but as we were all adults, it was more of a coffee stop, stretch your legs and a toilet trip if required.

The toy store is 95% wooden products which is great, you can climb the large metal rocking horse, and there's an animal petting zoo where you can buy some food pellets and your little ones can get to feed and touch the animals, up close.

You can read the other reviews for more details, but basically if you've got under 10s this would be a great stop!
