“Couldn't fault a thing - we'll be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

For a 2 star hotel, this was a great find and all that we needed for our 4 night stay in the Pyrenees. The room was clean and nicely furnished with a lovely view across the village roof-tops. John and Jane are great hosts and were very happy to have a chat and give us advice on places to see. We ate at the hotel restaurant each night and the food was terrific - the set menu meant we didn't have to make a decision about what to order (which is a relief after so much travelling!). They were also very accommodating by allowing us to store a bicycle in their store room which saved us taking it up to the room. The croissants John gets for breakfast were the best we had in France! The free wi-fi was only meant to work downstairs in the lounge, but we got signal in our room which was a bonus.
We will stay here again - whether it's for summer mountain riding or winter skiing!

Room Tip: Ask for room 12 (I think) with 2 windows/views

It is so special when you find a place that feels like home, even when thousands of miles away the states. John's culinary masterpiece was night after night divine, with local food and wine. Seconds away from hundreds of bike rides and climbs. Town of St. Savin is a special place to us. We will be back soon!!!!

We stayed for 2 nights at this little gem whilst following the Tour de France. It's a small hotel located in the beautiful village of St Savin away from the main roads.
The English owners are fantastic hosts and made us feel at ease straight away. John cooks some fantastic dinner in the evening and will be beat anything you may eat at the "posh" place in the village (see my other review). Rooms are basic but very clean and confortable.
You'll want to go back again and again...

We spent 4 nights there in September, and we can only recommend this hotel to anyone who plans to be in that area. Rooms were good and very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. But the highlights are definitely the view from at least some of the rooms over the valley, and the excellent dinners which are prepared by the owner himself (I believe). However, the breakfasts can't quite keep up with the quality of the dinners, even though they are not bad at all.

If stars were given by the spectacular service, ambience of surroundings, and quality of food and drink John and Jane Kirk would have a bowl of them at the front desk like candy.
A perfect example is the day we rode the Col D'Abisque and the Col Soulour twice. We came in an way after dinner was finished, far after dark, cold and hungry. John didn't say a thing about our reservations, he just got up from his chess game and said "Well, let's see if we can sort something out." We were hoping for a cheese and crackers plate but soon out comes a tomato, basel, and goat cheese salad, grilled salmon with mushroom sauce, new poatoes, and apple turnovers!
The entire hotel is full of origional oil paintings, the bar is soft with maple, leather, origional works of art , soft jazz and Taschen Archeticture books. Of course they can make real coffee and educated wine reccommendations.
The location is perfect for Tour de France fans, you can spend a week riding the big cols, including the Tourmalet, from the hotel. I suspect it would also be a great place to play chess, sip wine and enjoy the scenery.
We would highly reccommend John and Jane Kirk's Les Rochers Hotel and Restaurant.

Everything about Les Rochers is just wonderful.

The scenery is breathtaking and the village and surrounding villages so pretty that we didn't want to leave. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the decoration - are all just wonderful too.

It's got a creative, stylish and very relaxed atmosphere - and the service from the husband and wife owners is second to none, they can't do enough for you and prepared us some of the most delicious meals we'd had on our holiday in France and were always around to answer any questions or help us plan where to visit or what to do.

We are planning on going back soon with a party of friends for a big birthday and having the hotel all to ourselves, we simply can't wait. Apparently during the winter there is excellent skiing on their doorstep and it doesn't cost a fortune, so we think this will be another time to return also.

We can't recommend Les Rochers highly enough and look forward to visiting again soon.

Please keep up the good work!
