“Friendly boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Two of us arrived on our motorcycles, to a lovely greeting from the delightful, friendly and English speaking owner. We were made very welcome and availed ourselves of Sophie's very skilful massage to our aching bodies in the Spa at the back of the hotel. Thank you Madame and Sophie. The rooms were imaginatively decorated, and immaculately clean. The bathrooms were lovely and breakfast very pleasant. There is no evening dining in the hotel, but we were recommended a local restaurant that was very pleasant. When we left in the morning, it was one of the hotels on our French Odyssey that we would like to return to. Also, the weather meant we did not have time to see Montsoreau, so that would be a good excuse for a revisit; hopefully arriving in time for a proper relaxing massage.

Room Tip: I only saw two rooms, both were lovely and looking over the road to the Loire. The location was nice...

We picked this hotel especially because it had a great shower for anyone who's handicapped, even had a shower seat! The second criterion was air-conditioning, but this was not needed since it never got above 52 while we were in France. The place is very pretty with a nice interior garden and all the rooms seem to open on to it, each with their own special area. Of course, we couldn't use that because of the horrible rainy weather. The service was very good, but we were taken aback to find that no staff stay overnight at the 'hotel', which made us a bit uneasy. They will occasionally serve dinner if you ask in advance - I think it's brought in. Otherwise, there are two restaurants nearby, which got a bit monotonous since we stayed a week, although both were good.

Room Tip: IF YOU are handicapped at all, ask for the Secret Jardin room which has a great shower as mentioned...

We decided to visit the Abbey at Fontevraud kind of as a spur of the moment idea and had to search quickly for a Hotel where our dog would also be welcome. The La Marine caught my eye as I was searching through possible locations and considering the experience, turned out to be a very good choice.
Our GPS didn't find the location - well it got us to the right street, but told us we were "at our destination" about half a mile before we got there. The La Marine is an unassuming, rather old building near the edge of Montsoreau. On arrival we were politely greeted by a young lady who spoke English well enough to get along and be understood. We were shown to our room - more like a suite. To the right the bedroom, a large room, furnished in antique style with a bed, desk, a table and some chairs. The bed was quite nice and comfortable, the remaining furnishings were well worn, but functional. In typical French style, the toilet and bath are in separate rooms. This is convenient if someone wants to use the toilet while the other showers, but is inconvenient since you have to go from one room to the next to wash your hands after visiting the toilet. But that is just the way it is here in France, not a big deal. Unfortunately I did not check the internet site of the hotel carefully enough, so on the first night - it was a bit warm and humid, we did not realize we had air conditioning. That is not a given in small towns, but turned out to be a great help, and the room was much more comfortable from then on.
The bedroom had a large door with small balcony, adding to the brightness in the room. And there was free wireless internet as well. What a surprise.
Our room was away from the street overlooking the small garden. Had the weather been nicer, we might have made use of the attractive little square, surrounded by a high wall and adorned with some fountains.
The next day the Hotel was attended by the owner, whose name we unfortunately we did not retain. She served breakfast and was very attentive, checking to be sure we had what we needed and that everything was ok.
The restaurant is not always open, but we had reserved the next night. We were the only guests and were served a spectacular four course meal. The owner came by, spoke with us, served everything very nicely and turned out to be just an entirely pleasant and wonderful experience.
The dining room is a pretty small with maybe a dozen tables, decorated in kind of a marine style with a large center table where the some items for breakfast are served. It is bright and pleasant and fits very well with the entire ambiance.
We do plan to visit the Loire Valley again next year, and the only reason we might not stay here is that Montsoreau isn't the best location to start scouting all the castles along the Loire, but there are a few sites nearby to include the Chateau about a block from the Hotel and Chinon is not far either. Our thanks to the lovely lady who owns the La Marine and all the best for success.

Room Tip: Our room overlooking the garden was absolutely quiet and peaceful. Since the building is old, you c...

The place is a relaxed, yet stylish, but what made if for us was the warm welcome of the local proprietor who chatted with us despite our limited French, shared local town stories and introduced us to a local dog – Kujo, a Labrador who just wanted to hand out with us over dinner in a garden. We stayed there when the local town hall next door caught fire, cheered on the firefighting and witnessed a fireman getting a gift voucher from the hotel for a spa treatment for his wife, while Kujo ran away to inspect the damage. We felt like part of the local life. What a memorable experience!

My parents, brother and I stayed at Hotel La Marine de Loire for two nights in late August. It was our first family vacation in 15 years, and we had a fantastic time. Our suite on the top floor was decorated with care. Our only caution is that the sloping ceilings were often difficult to avoid; my brother hit his head more than once. The backyard garden offered a peaceful oasis, and the town itself was adorable. We enjoyed the small Sunday market, purchasing bread at the bakery a few doors down, and eating breakfast along the river. I'd return without question but do wish that the hotel included breakfast in the price of the room; 12 euro (I think) seemed like far too much per person on top of the not-so-modest room price.

The decor and atmosphere were impeccable. You could tell they have put a lot of effort and care into designing this place. Every room has a different theme to its interior design, be it the beach or outer space or what. The only downside was that it is located in Montsoreau, which is about one hours drive away from the most popular chateaus (Chenonceaux, Chambord, and Cheverny). Aside from that, it is a lovely stay and doesn't lose any charm to the gites.

Our room overlooked the garden and was a nice size and so was the bed. Evrything you needed was to hand and the only quibble would be the hand held shower in the bath. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly both when we booked and when we checked in. A very nice overnight stop and a great dinner in the recommended restaurant.
