Thank you for your visit and the publication on trip advisor. The chateau of Montsoreau is the only one on the Loire, and the best place to discover and take picture of the river
Hope you enjoy your holidays on the Loire Valley.

“Great Views But That's It!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Lovely chateau on the outside, great service by a very friendly young woman, but pretty sparse interior. It did have this very interesting light show with some mannequins and female medieval dresses being projected onto them (I really liked this). But that was all in the interior. Fab views over the Loire. But for what is in the chateau, it definitely isn't worth €8.90 for a single adult. I paid €11.00 to get into Chenonceau and I was there for 3 hours longer than this place (total visit 40 minutes). If you want to pay for the views, this will more than please you, but expect nothing from the interior.

“River History”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Chateau de Montsoreau is a beautiful castle in good repair. Visiters climb from the basement, to the main halls, to the roof terraces, where there is an awesome view of the Loire and town of Montsoreau. The castle is unfurnished and the records of the castle’s history have been lost. Instead of showing what castle life was like, there are wonderful displays that explain the history of the Loire River’s commerce and environmental patterns. I was glad to see this chateau before I saw others that were more developed historically. Visitors are given a pamphlet with explanations of each room written in their native language. There are also short descriptions in English on plaques in each room.

Montsoreau is in a great wine producing area. After touring the castle, visitors get a free wine tasting.

“An homage to the Loire river from one if its magnificent chateaux”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Having visited our share of Loire chateaux before seeing Montsoreau, we were delighted with the artistic interpretation and presentation at Montsoreau. Montsoreau presents the history of the Loire river - its importance to France - within the walls and rooms of the castle. Stunning views of the Loire from the wall-tops.

From details of the boats specially designed to navigate shallow, ever changing waters, the commerce up and down stream, the geology of the river bed, the building of levees, and the changing meaning of weather vanes over time, this was a welcome divergence from the excesses of the various Louis-es, (Louis XVI is dead already?!) Henri-s, and their mistresses.

Definitely a treat for history buffs and the technically oriented.

Thank you very much for all these encouragement for the season.
Indeed, the château has an exceptional location, with the Loire which is majestic, troglodyte cellars, vineyard and just between the beautiful cities of Saumur and Tours.
Best regards,
Aline

“this chateau ticks many of the tourist boxes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Firstly it's beautifully situated on the banks of the Vienne, in fact it's on the confluence of La Loire and La Vienne so you can see where the rivers meet in the change of colour.

Secondly, well preserved mediaeval chateau with an enthralling history of the great rivers; the trade, the occupants over centuries, well steeped in history.

Thirdly, the views "inland" of troglodyte village, spectacularly peculiar.

fourthly the drive from Saumur along the Loire, spying the chateau in the distance (on the other side) very appealing and enticing.

I could probably go on, but will finish by saying that if you are visiting the Loire valley, then this chateau is well worth the trip.
