“a place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

Me and my husband spent 6 days at Germisara in April 2012. We chose a package with balnear cure. We were more than pleased by the service there. All the equipment is new and the personnel is very professional and kind. Compared with other 4* hotels that we've tried (which offer balnear treatment) Germisara is the best by far. The only minus at Germisara is the food - which is not that diverse; still its quality is very good. Even if you don't choose a balnear package you can still enjoy for free 2 very good pools (one has thermal water) and a well equiped fitness room.

I spent one night at the Germisara during a 7 day trip from Arad to Brasov. I was traveling with my 10 year old son and Father. We wanted to see the Hunedoara Castle and spend the night somewhere near by. The hotel is 30-40 miles outside of Hunedoara proper in a spa town. You need to take a small winding road in the hills to get there but there are many signs on the main road so it is easy to find. Parking is plentiful.

The property is fairly well maintained. Almost all the guests seem to be Romanian but the front desk spoke english and was helpful. The spa felt like a bit of a throwback. I have been traveling to eastern europe since the 80s and is feels like the old eastern europe I remember with many older people enjoying the hot pools and very traditional not so westernized food. The town itself is lovely with hiking trails leading into the mountains and restaurants and an ice cream shop on the main square. In general I would recommend a stop in Geoagiu Bai for folks traveling between Arad and Transylvania and the Germisara seems as nice a place to stay as any.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2011

I just came back from a three days vacation at Germisara, late november 2011. We had a really nice time and everything was according to our expectations.
Big pluses:
- the personnel, including the therapists
- ordered food, everything we ordered was delicious, they even have "on the house" treat
- massages and therapies, they know what they're doing
- the resort is perfect for an escape from the crowded towns
- with all the services they provide you'll never get bored, you'll jump from the gym to massage and to pool or sauna, or you will take a walk or just lounge on the naturally worm water in the pool

Minuses:
- towels and robes were white and clean and they change the towels each two days, but they were severely worn-out
- carpet had stains
- breakfast was ok, but not too diversified
- poor mini bar, only a few bottles of water, wine
- you don't have a mini-market or something like that if you need to buy something so come prepared
- for those who are looking from clubbing and fun, you won't find this in Germisara or in Geoagiu.

Overall, the things that really matter were ok and we had nice days, so I would recommend this hotel both for a small vacation and also for rejuvenation.

We chose the hotel for the location and for the indoor pool. It was a good choice. We had a room with a balcony and we enjoyed the view from there. My only complain about the room is that the mini-bar was poor and that one day the new towels were broken. At the restaurant there is not much choice either. I wasn't impressed about the staff; they need more work on this direction. At the SPA center we only went to the pool (very nice), sauna (crowded) and massage (very good).

Spending one week there was a spontaneous decision, after hearing a radio ad.
The whole pack was ridiculously cheap - the equivalent of 175EUR for 5 nights, 3 meals per day, plus 3 doctor prescribed spa procedures/day.
The value for money there is one of the highest!

The hotel is one of the most decent in Romania and considering the relatively modest tourism infra-structure of the region, one can say that is among the best options inthe region.
Overall: decent size and clean rooms, excellent meals. The small heated pool was clean and the spa premises were impecable. I didn't try the big pool, which apparently was not heated, but it was not a problem for anyone, given the heat outside. As an alternative, one can use the pool from Diana Hotel, across the street.

Basicaly you cannot do anything in the village itself, but you can do day trips to surrounding attactions: Deva, Hunedoara, Sarmisegetuza (it's a must!!), Alba Iulia, Simeria.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2010

I’ve stayed together with my wife and my 11 years old kid for 10 days starting 27th of August 2010.
Best hotel in Geoagiu Bai but definitely not a 4 stars hotel.
Not a destination for smokers. The only place where you can enjoy a cigarette is outside in front of the hotel (except during lunch and dinner). If you are inside the Welness@Spa you must walk outside in front of the hotel for this. The outside terrace was not opened so you cannot enjoy a coffee or a drink after lunch or in the evening.
I must divide this location in 2: one including the Welness&Spa and the other including the hotel and the restaurant.
Welness&Spa is definitely OK. Inside pools (1 with fresh waters and 1 with thermal water) are clean (the thermal one is cleaned every night).
I can give a 10 for Irina and, the ladies in charge for our medical treatment. The employees are ready to help.
There is also a fitness area quasicomplete for amateur.
Regarding the massage, I recommend asking for Mr. Vali (a real pro), but also the others are OK (Tania, Lili and Angela).
The rooms are OK, clean beds, shower cabin in the bathroom and 90% of them do not have balcony.
The package we had included breakfast (buffet), lunch and dinner (fix menu). The food was good (I can give an 8 to the chef) but the waiters were a disaster: nervous all the time, not smiling, trying to argue with you all the time. Stayed 10 days and asking me every meal the no. of the room. I can give them a maximum of 4.
As about the resort – Geoagiu Bai, nothing to do except a short trip to the waterfall (15 min. walking – worth this effort) and visiting the ruins of the old Roman thermal bath right in the center. Also there is a good club Tarabostes but only on Saturday.
We will not come back in the near future, until they will change something on the hotel or in the Resort Geoagiu.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2009

Me, my wife and another couple spent an extended week-end in this hotel at the beginning of Oct, 2009 ).
Even if we booked our rooms by phone, there was no problem when we arrived there around midnight.
The staff was very friendly and polite, there was no problem in changing our room after the first night due to some smell in the bathroom (I believe they fixed the problem in the same day).
During the week-end (Sat, Sun) the hotel was a bit crowded because of the medical conference, but everything was manageable.
The food was good, restaurant pretty clean. We had half-board (breakfast and dinner).
The hotel has two indoor pools: one thermal pool (water around 35 degrees C) and one normal pool (water around 27 C, depth 1.5 meters). There was also a nice sauna.
There was also an Internet connection available in each room, you just have to ask for a network cable at the reception.
The hotel had also a basic fitness center, and the most important, massage + other spa facilities (aroma-therapy, hydro-massage, etc). We booked several massage sessions and everything was fine.
The negative points: the smelly room (though they fixed in the same day, and the new room they gave us had no problems). The second negative point - the thermal pool is not suitable for pregnant woman (the water is low radioactive - 4.14MmC), and this was not clearly highlighted. There was a big panel near the pool, but there were no restrictions displayed (only the indications and benefits). The restriction was displayed near the Pool reception, where no one reads it.
The conclusion - there is a great place, in a very quiet area. I recommend it for a nice relaxation break.
