“Sol La Palma December 2012”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Stayed for a week in December 2012. The room overlooked the pool and had a wonderful sea view, sunsets and sunrises were beautiful. The rooms are fairly basic but very clean and a really good size with fresh towels and bedding each day. There is a kettle and a fridge in the room but no cups/spoons. You can ask for these in the bar or dining room.

All the staff were friendly and service in the restaurant is very quick. Food is a buffet for breakfast and evening meal. There is a lady who makes delicious omelettes with a choice of filling whilst you wait at breakfast time. For both meals there is a wide choice of food.

I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and can definitely recommend it, there seem to have been some improvements in service and to rooms made recently. The hotel is very quiet and peaceful, most of the guests seem to middle aged or older couples, from Germany or the Netherland and a few from Belgium who come to hike, so if you are looking for a younger livelier holiday this may not be for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view.

Slightly dated hotel but with a good layout. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful - in fact, every member of staff who passed by smiled and gave us a very pleasant 'Good Morning!'
The lounge/reception area is large and with plenty of sofas and chairs. The WiFi connection was very good and probably about 6 other people were on devices using the connection when we were there and our connection didn't falter.
The buffet breakfast offered what must surely be every combination known to man (not all swans and roses but still excellent fare) and again the staff were exceptionally pleasant. Used plates were cleared quickly and tables made ready for the next guests.
I would just comment that the music from the live trio in the evening was a little too loud for me. Although we were actually sat there to listen to the music and watch the trio, if I had been sat at the bar and not interested in the music, I would have found it a slightly negative point.
The swimming pool overlooking the sea is lovely and the beach with restaurants is just a few minutes away.
At the moment, they are renovating the promenade - hopefully that will be finished soon.

Just returned from the Sol La Palma, staying 2 weeks. Terrific location, with the totally unspoiled small resort just a short walk away. The hotel room was excellent and cleaned every day, with fresh towels daily, and bedding changed frequently. The cleaning staff were friendly and cheerful. The bar staff and animation team were excellent, and went out of their way to be helpful. The reception staff, however, were unhelpful and spoke little English. We had a dispute about our booking, but they would not help, nor would they assist us to reconfirm our return flights as required by our airline, so we had to contact our UK Travel Agent ourselves. Luckily they have free wifi. The dispute was that, having booked online for self catering in the hotel, NOT the apartments, they told us there is no self catering in the hotel, and put us in the apartments anyway. They then charged us an extra 133 euros to have a hotel room. So make sure you double check when you book! There is a kettle in the room, but no cups, and the reception staff just shrugged and said the room "comes with nothing". Fortunately the barman gave us some cups. We cannot comment on the food as we did not eat there. The local restaurants are friendly and the food is great, and reasonably priced. Again, not much English spoken. The hotel entertainment was very good generally, and the pools are clean, one of them heated and with a lifeguard in attendance, and no problem with sunbeds. On my wife's birthday, without even being told, they placed a bottle of champagne and flowers in our room as a lovely surprise. The manager was extremely pleasant when we met him on our last day there, allowing us to keep our room until later in the afternoon when we needed to leave.
Booking dispute apart, which may be the fault of the agent. we would definitely return to this hotel and resort, and this is the best side of the island to stay. The sun always seems to shine on the Sol La Palma, although not always on other parts of the island! This really is a gem of a place.
Altogether a great holiday, a good hotel in a prime location.

Room Tip: Not all balconies get the sun. A sea view also gets the fabulous sunsets.

We arrived friday 24th of february in the early afternoon. The room was ready later in the afternoon and we could leave our bagage in a special space of the hotel. So we could discover Puerto Naos during this time and have a lunch. After that went back to the hotel to inform if our room was already ready this was not the case.........But a half hour later it was ready. We had a very big appartment with a very large balcony watching the seaside . So very satisfactury. Everything in the room was well cleaned. And the towels were refreshed when we used them.
The breakfast was exellent. We are both vegetarians so we eat no meat or fish or chicken. But there was every morning fresh fruit and yogurt and tomato juice! I liked the outside of the garden with the swimmingpool very much. It reminded me of me stay at an hotel in Cuba in the year 2000. The serving people were also very friendly. So i will tell my friends and relatives and family about this hotel ! I will recommend it .
Nice regards Christhel Harting & Erik Lofstrom.

Have just returned from 8 days at the Sol La Palma in Puerto Naos. Location is excellent - lots of sunshine on this west side of the island yet driving distances are not far for access to other parts. Breakfast is good; evening buffet is typical Canaries cooking - decently done but don't expect lots of imagination. There is, however, a lot of choice and you can pick and choose your way to what pleases. Room was just grand - good space, good storage and overlooking the sea with the pool to the right. As the wind rises, the night-time noise of the surf is very loud. Bed - as in Spain generally - tends to hard but that suits us. And the room had a small fridge and a kettle - just ask for cups/ saucers and they will appear. Didn't try the on-site supermarket - most of the locals use the Spar in town which is fine. Town is small, not a lot on offer, but again friendly people. We rented a car - well, more of a handbag - and were glad of the chance to tour the island. Parking at the hotel is actually simple - if there are no apparent spaces, double park, tell the desk and you will be given a ticket for your car keys and the car will be moved or re-parked as necessary. This really was typical of our experience of the hotel staff - they are friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. It all works on a low key but efficient model where, yes, it all works out. The pool was amazingly warm - by afternoon, it has had a good 4/5 hours of strong sun that warms it through. Perhaps we were lucky in that the hotel was not full - there might easily be more strain on pool and dining room were it to be a peak period. We would recommend the hotel - but the island is really for walkers around calderas and volcanoes and, being small, there is only so much to do. Tourism is in its early and simple stages here. Do, though, look at the santuario de la virgen de las nieves (above Santa Cruz) and S/C itself is a very pleasant place. In the south, a walk around the volcano of San Antonio is stunning, educational and a good second for those who are not inspired to walk the entire Ruta de los Volcanes. Most hotel guests are German or Dutch. All were friendly. For those who like glitz, this is not the place - but I don't agree that it is 'tired': it is more that flash modernity has not been imposed - the solid Canarian wood and the marble tiling are from another era, yes, it is 20 years old, but they last and give a warm and welcoming feel.

Room Tip: Sea view - good sized room with crashing breakers outside and a kettle and fridge within.

We stayed here a couple of times whilst visiting family who live in Puerto Naos a year or two ago. We stayed in a hotel room the first visit and and an apartment the second. The hotel isn't mega modern but it is very well cared for and has a nice, friendly atmosphere. The food was plentiful and if you picked what you had, very good with lots of choice. Our hotel room was superb, lovely bathroom with lots of hot water and a bath as well as shower. We had fantastic sea views over the black sand beach. The apartment was spacious and well kept, with a view across the inside swimming pool. Of course if you go around looking for problems you can always find them but overall we really enjoyed our stay here. Of mention is the superb swimming pool, surrounded by the sea on three sides. What more can you want than to lie on your sunbed listening to the Atlantic lap at the rocks and beach below ?

Puerto Naos itself is a sweet little resort. We did find it expensive to eat out and ended up using the kitchen more than we might ! Do visit El Bucanero Bar and say hello to the lovely Laly, this is the friendliest bar in town! The resort is so small that I felt very safe letting my (then) young teenage girls have as much freedom as they wanted.

Enjoy, the island is simply stunning and this side of it has the best weather and such a great atmosphere. There are photos on my profile I will try to link them to this review.

Room Tip: A sea view, if possible adds a lot to the experience.

Very nice hotel right at the beach. The hotel is at the ens of the boulevard, so you can walk rght into the little town of Puerto Naos. Two large pools and most rooms have seeview, at least sideways. We had a very large appartment with separate large bedroom and a small kitchen.

Room is cleaned every day.
Only wifi at the huge reception area.
