“Thumbs up for the Tartan Table”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We visit Barra a couple of times a year, and while there often pop into the Tartan Table for lunch. We usually have the fish & chips, or scampi & chips. These are fresh as can be & locally caught. The home made soups are also lovely. They do a variety of cooked breakfast & filled rolls as well.

The café is fairly basic, but extremely clean. It's frequented a lot my locals too and has a little playroom through the back which proves popular with the little ones.

Pleasant staff & good value make this a lovely, no frills place to pop into for lunch.

“cost effective and freshly prepared”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

small community run café which was clean and fresh . Very reasonably priced and good for families or those on a budget. The soup tasted home made and was nice and hot. During our holiday my teenager had a craving for chips and cheese ( ?! ) which the tartan table café satisfied. One satisfied teenager and a happier holiday for all.

“A decent little cafe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

The Tartan Table is a small cafe in the local childcare and community centre in Castlebay. As such, it does not have a particularly adventurous menu and the bulk of the food is of the "Iceland" variety - i.e. burgers, chicken nuggets etc with chips, chips and more chips. To be fair - the portions looked very good and everyone who chose those options clearly enjoyed them.

They also do home-made soups and sandwiches, which are perfectly fine and my only suggestion is that a wee bit of salad garnish on the side would make a huge difference. If you are looking for a simple snack or lunch at good prices - the Tartan Table is well worth a visit.

“A Musical Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Dropped into this cafe on our trip through the Western Isles - not only were we served great breakfast rolls but we spent the next hour playing guitar with one of the locals! Give it a try - you never know who you might meet.

“Don't miss it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Lovely, clean café. Small, but serves good basic food at reasonable prices, and pleasant staff.
Well worth a visit - turn left at top of pier - 200 yards - just beside car park. Good menu & carry-out service.
