“I had no idea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

A very interesting couple of hours - technology that roofed the homes of millions. It was raining and cold yet the experience (mainly in sheds and workshops) was still the highlight of a week's trip to North Wales. I seem to remember that admission didn't cost much.

“Very humbling to learn the history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Much better than those boring and expensive english theme parks - this is reality. Take both trips to experience the suffering undertaken by men and boys to provide us with superb Welsh roof slates that lasts lifetimes (better than cheap inferior Spanish slate). Excellent and most informative tour guides. Highly recommended that everyone should visit Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog, no problem with weather conditions outside!

“Interesting visit”

Informative but on the deep mine trip we had a taped commentary, would have liked to have had a guide so we could have asked questions

“In need of some TLC!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

Visited late Saturday morning/lunchtime and despite quite a few visitors the place seemed 'dead' and run down. Went on the self-guided 'Deep Mine Experience' which is way overpriced at £10-50 per adult. So much more could be made of the caves if the light show and commentery were brought up to date. They need to pay a visit to Electric Mountain to see how it should be done!
Other exhibits were unattended by staff and some appeared to be closed off due to being in a state of poor repair.
Food in the restaurant was well presented and reasonably priced.
Toilets were in need of a clean and quite unpleasant - even the ladies!
Such a shame as so much more could be made of this attraction.

“Must see despite the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

Go for both the tours it’s not worth saving by doing just one tour. The deep mine is fabulous and enhanced by the fact once introductions and instructions are given you are left to fend for yourselves. Some have said on here that staff aren’t friendly we found them helpful and cheery. Each cavern has a story and then the tunnel lights up and you go into the lights. It’s a mini adventure. It is cold down there so a top a fleece and jacket kept us warm forgot the gloves and hand were cold even with temperatures 25C outside. The tramway tour is equally fabulous you are whisked away in little coaches and then a rather jovial member of staff did his demonstrations and expiations of life in the mine thoroughly enjoyable insight into life of these young men. Some say it’s not good value for money as it can be over in a couple of hours and yes the village could do with a makeover but we enjoyed the experience it was informative and inspiring.
