“You can't have a better host than Maria and James”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Its great to be in a place were service is "top notch'. Good personal service in a hotel is a rare find these days. I have an allergy for Sugar and they did everything to meet my needs, at breakfast and dinner because James is really a wonderfull cook. Another plus his wife Maria, she is great she showed us many options of what to do in the neighbourhood from the maple moan to the wolf center which we wouldn't have found without her. She showed us with trails to go for in Algonquin national park. It feels like she can answer all your questions, besides of that the place is really warm and comfortable and the rooms are big. I would definately stay again if iam around in the area!

Room Tip: Almost all of the rooms have a view on the lake, but just in case ask for it....its really worth bei...

Heather lodge is a gem just a few miles north of Minden, Ontario.
The new innkeepers Maria and James are excellent , friendly and warm hosts who made our stay so special we just must share our great experience with others.
James is an excellent chef who makes fantastic meals. The choice of several different breakfast types included fruits, home made jams, freshly baked pastries, and pen cakes, cheese and sausages were so appreciated after a restful sleep in the well equipped room with a bar fridge, coffee machine with assortment of coffee and tea. TV has a large selection of channels, WiFi is free and works, the availability of very recent movies to watch using the available DVD equipment provides additional entertainment, if the TV programs are not to your taste. Plenty of hot water for the jacuzzi style tub. Even the tap water tastes great. Beds are comfortable, cushions good, quality window dressings are provided for the extra privacy a peaceful sleep in the complete darkness, if desired. Free rental of a paddle boat and canoes is a welcome addition if you wish to exercise and paddle on a beautiful Twelve miles lake, which is also a great place for the sport fishing -lake trout, white fish, plenty od small and large mouth bass, pickerels and perches. Maria gave us a thorough sightseeing through the property which they manage with style and class. Beside canoeing, fishing and even swimming, we walked on several beautiful nature trails, learnt about the origin of a local chute built in 18th century. Good quality furniture, the custom made to Marias specifications 'mango essence' bath cosmetics - hair and skin shampoos, soaps, lotions were just a few additional unexpected niceties. No wonder the Heather Lodge is ranked # 5 out of over 150 Lodges and Inns in Ontario. Well done Maria and James. Thank you for making our 2nd wedding anniversary very special :)

While unable to rank swimming pool and fitness centre, this special place is not some hotel room with the pool, this place has its own lake where one can swim ( even though the water was a bit too fresh in May, yet swimmable ;), as for the fitness room- just take a walk on one of the many trails next to the lodge. Do not forget to order a four course meal from the excellent chef James and the private hot tub and/or sauna - with plenty of cushy towels being provided.

Cannot wait to return back.

Room Tip: we chose a regular room on the ground floor which did not face the lake, but found it completely sa...

For the second year 18 of us have stayed at Heather Lodge. The lodge and setting are perfect with very comfortable and charming rooms and lodge. The dining room and large deck overlook the lake.
New owners Maria and James have raised the bar with Maria's warm hospitality and efficiency and the fabulous breakfast and dinners by James. We have already booked our reunion again for next year!

Room Tip: There are 2 levels with 8 rooms facing the lake. Heather Lodge accommodates adults only.

I travel for a living so have stayed at many places and this one is in my top 5! Food was amazing, owners are on site cooking the 4 course dinner and serving you, its friendly and unique. The place feels like an old lodge lots of wood and charm. I would return in a heartbeat!

This small inn is a true gem in every way. Lovely rooms, cozy lodge, superb food--with lots of choice in the meal package that comes with your room--superb hosts. Maria and James made our stay very memorable in every way, easily accommodating our schedule. We cannot wait to try it in the summer. It made a perfect winter getaway. Top marks indeed.

Took a chance on this place for a quick Valentines getaway and are we glad we did!

As soon as you walk in the door, you are greeted warmly by hostess Maria and given a quick but thorough break down of the resort and its amenities. We had our key and dinner reservations within minutes and were soon relaxing in our rooms.

Rooms are nice, Balcony overlooking the lake, Fireplace, Cozy King sized bed, and all the normal amenities.

Dinner was DELICIOUS! Chef James was apparently the former executive chef at Pinestone, and its shows. It was 4 courses of heaven. The dining room is cozy, and you can linger in the lounge after dinner and relax as long as you like. Don't forget to bring your own wine, as they just took over the property and do not yet have their Liquor License, something that we are told will change soon!

We really feel that we had to leave here too soon and truly cannot wait to return. The food is incredible and the owners are so friendly and accommodating. I truly cannot wait to come back again for a full weekend next time!!

Room Tip: Lake view in all. maybe avoid room 1 because you can hear the hot tub next door. but no one was row...

Thank you Maria and James for making our weekend special. We enjoyed every minute at Heather Lodge. The food was amazing and we felt very welcome and comfortable there. We will definitely come again.

Room Tip: The honeymoon suite is great, but the less expensive lakeside rooms are also amazing!
