“Enjoyable holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Just got back from a 10 day say at Marina Palace with husband and 2 kids (11 and 8). Booked it last minute towards end of June and 'requested' sea view if possible. We arrived in the early hours of the morning (4ish) and was dropped off at the main reception. When we tried to book in the receptionist informed us we were staying in a different section of the hotel and guided us up the road to a second reception. At this point alarm bells were ringing as we had read reviews of inferior apartments. The second receptionist was efficient and gave us our room key and off we went. We went straight to sleep and thought we would deal with the aftermath later.

The room itself was ok, not quite the plush ones in the photos, but still ok and we hadn't paid the more expensive price. It was well equipped and clean. When morning came and we looked out on the balcony I got balcony envy as we looked upon apartments with huge balconies big enough to have a party on. Still we did have the most tremendous sea view as I had requested. (Ours was a one bedroomed apt).

All the staff throughout the complex were friendly and worked hard. The pool area was not overflowing with sunbeds but we didn't have any problem getting at least 2 (the kids were mainly in the pool anyway) and there was no mad rush to get one at daybreak! We all thoroughly enjoyed the pool area. Our kids are not into kids clubs so it didn't matter that there wasn't that facility.

We enjoyed a couple of evening meals at the hotel restaurant and the sunset setting was breath taking. The nearby bars and eateries were much a muchness really except for 'Relish' which was fab and definitely worth trying.

We went to look at a couple of the nearby beaches, but the best for us was Port Torrent beach as there was shady areas under the trees by the rocks. The beaches were safe and child friendly.

Arriving at Marina Palace we got upgrated to another room for free. I have no idea what kind of room they originally had us in, but we were very happy with our new room. We had a room with airco, I think the original booking was not for a room with airco, and judging from other reviews, we could have done worse! We had an ocean and pool view. The rooms were basic but clean. Clean towels every day and cleans sheets every other day. The cleaninglady even left on the airco for us, so the room would be nice and cool when we got in. Every body was very nice, the service was great.
My experience was there were mostly enough beds around the pool when you were in time. To bad some people can't be bothered with the sign that said not to leave towels on the beds if you are not using them.
All in all the place is not very modern, but good enough for me. To me service is very important and there was plenty of it.

The street nearby (Carrer des Calo) was not that great. It had a couple of good restaurants and shops. But all in all, a bit of a has been area if you ask me.

Stayed for 7 nights in a sea view room.

Very basic apartment with Lovely views to the sea and sunset from the balcony. The furniture, beds, mattress, bathroom & kitchen are all showing signs of age and the hotel could probably do with a make-over. Bed was rather uncomfortable as it was 2 singles pushed together to make a double and the mattress was cheap and old.

The highlight of this hotel is the front desk service and the incredible views of the sea and sunset from the balcony. The hotel is also located in a nice quiet part of Sant Antoni (further around the bay) and it was lovely to not have to hear and bump into the enormous number of uncouth, British chav types that unfortunately overrun Sant Antoni. I definitely won't be staying on this side of the island again!

The front desk service was really lovely - everyone smiled when they greeted you and were genuinely happy to help whenever you needed it.

I do think, however, that there are better options in Sant Antoni and although I wouldn't stay in this wretched town again I think you can get better value for your money.

Hmm where to start... I stayed at these apartments in mid July 2013.

Ok with the positives and there is only two, the apartment I stayed in was clean and the complex seems to be quiet.

Now the negatives, on arrival your greeted by a receptionist who hands you a list of things which are forbidden. You know sort of thing if you break anything your liable and asks you for a credit card number. Nothing wrong with that. So you would expect the apartment to be fabulous. Er, no your apartment has green bamboo wicker furniture from the 80's, two celings fans which are noisy and generally look to be on their last legs. The television set is just awful and the sound is terrible.

We requested a sea view and booked in January. When we got our room we overlooked the car park. So politely when back to reception to request a sea view as we asked for one in our booking. The receptionist was very cautious and was saying that there was no sea view apartments available. When a bloke who can only assume was her boss (always wears a black shirt) abruptly interrupted and started saying a request is not payment for a sea view. Well why did you take our money in January and not inform us of that?

Looking at other reviews there must two grades of rooms and somehow some people are fortunate enough to get the upgraded rooms on 3 star budget. However that back end of the hotel was poor standard. Must not like the look of us.

There is never no sun beds around the pool areas they look pretty because its all laid out to attract the ibiza chillin crowd. however for the amount of people at this apartment complex it's just a joke. There is signs up saying please remove your towels from the sun beds if you are not using them. However no one ever does so for anyone who is not up at 6am forget it.

This complex really needs to make its mind up who it's trying to attract the family who are on a budget or young trendy types. Because at the moment believe me I feel it does not work. It a mismatch of holiday experiences for everyone. I'm confused.

Dear Gkaw,
First of all, please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience during your stay in our apartments and for not being able to reach your expectations. I also want to thank you for taking your time to write your comment as it gives us the chance to learn and also to explain ourselves.
As you said, there is a short list of basic rules that we give our guests during check-In in order to, mainly, make our guest’s stays as relaxing and quiet as possible. Basically because we have many families that like to come and enjoy their holidays with us and we want to ensure a peaceful and relaxing ambience. Somehow, sometimes, and mainly in July and August, there are young people, as you said at the end of your review, around the hotel or even in our rooms that can be noisy, and we need to ensure that they will not disturb other guests who want to chill.
Regarding the furniture and the fans, I’ve just checked your booking and I can see you paid for an economic apartment. The details of it are clearly shown on the pictures online. All our economic apartments are the same so the pictures correspond exactly with what you booked and had. These apartments, as shown and as informed online, do not have air conditioning; so, the fans are there to be used in case of not wanting to use the portable air conditioning that we put as courtesy and complimentary in every room for July and August, when it’s very hot. This, and the fact that it is not a luxury apartment nor even our classic type of apartment, obliges us to offer it for a more economic prize.
As you can also see online we offer a guaranteed sea view if you pay a supplement for it, which you didn’t book. As you can understand, guests who have booked this and paid for it have priority against those who haven’t. I really apologize for not having been able to offer you an apartment with sea views and if we have had one we certainly would have satisfied your special request, but please understand that July is peak season in Ibiza and we are always full.
I do not think that our good comments are because we give some fortunate people nicer rooms, I like to think the reason of our good comments are our constant efforts in making our guest’s stays as nice as possible and thanks to the kindness of all our team. You are very important to us and you are the reason why we have a job and a future, this is why our goal is to satisfy your expectations and even surprise you positively if possible. Just to inform you, we do have different categories of apartments that can be afforded by different types of clients depending on what they are looking for, all our prices are strictly related to the quality of the apartment and all have the same 3* services. All the economic apartments are situated in a different building, not being mixed with the luxury ones. I can understand your confusion, especially in these months (July & August) when everyone wants to come and comes to Ibiza, but please understand, there is no way of saying no to guests who want to come and pay for our accommodation. We will do our best to make everything be as clear as possible for all our actual and future guests.
To finish, I completely agree with you regarding the sun beds, the truth is that initially we didn’t have enough sun beds for all our guests and we quickly reacted to that issue, we have bought a lot of them that we have located in the green area of one of the swimming pools beside Miramare, our sunset cocktail bar & restaurant.
Once again, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused during your stay, we hope you’ve had a great time on the island and it’s our wish to have the opportunity to welcome you once again to demonstrate our improvements and have the chance to surprise you being better than expected.
Kindest Regards,
Management.

the marina palace just on the outskirts of san antonio bay was a very pleasent surprise to me n the group of friends i was with!! we only paid £160 each for a week in a one bedroom apartment... but another mate who only decided to come with us 1 week before was let into one of our rooms.... FOR FREE!!! as they said well you have already paid the room price. which ive never heard of hotels doing before?! on our arrival they then shown us too our rooms one group had a amazing sea view where the sunset is stunning... and we had been given also for free a two bedroom apartment which enabled 5 of us to stay together in one room which was brilliant! these apartments are rated 3stars but really they are pushing for 4star rating!! the team of cleaners are superb and every day we had fresh bedding and clean towels, which again is unheard of in 3star accomadation!! every corner of the room was spotless everyday after being cleaned. fans fitted in all rooms with a air con unit to for free!!!! awesome!!! reception staff were good as gold and very helpful. The two pools were very well maintained and the area around the pool. new quality sunbeds with good umbrellas, they could maybe do with buying 4-8 more but im sure they will do soon. drinks were very reasonably priced, and had pool side service with food and drink. on the whole the food there was excellent and they have a great tapas menu at great value!!! about a 10-15 min walk down to the left tho is a fantastic resturant called 'relish'! beach wise you have to walk towards san antonio and there are a few on the way into the main strip. its approx 45-50min walk to the main strip of san antonio.... cafe del mar is about a hours walk.

this is a place for everyone as long as you respect the fact that there are families and elderly people there. the group i went with was of the ages 21-25 and we didnt feel out of place at all. the supermarket in the complex is also very good. as the facilities kitchen wise are very good getting food in for meals is also a good shout?!!? 100% will be staying with marina palace again espicially for value for money which was amazing!!

Room Tip: get a sea view room as sunset amazing

6 of us stayed here for a week from 2nd July, well actually early hours of 3rd - check-in was quick and pain free and we were quickly in our third floor, 2-bedroom apartment.

The apartment was perfectly adequate for what we needed, we had a 2-bedroom apartment which had a pull-out bed in the living area, a room with 2 single beds pushed together and then, to our surprise, another bedroom with bunk beds - not quite what we'd been expecting!

We had a great view out over the pool and the sea, air-con was fine and the controls were already in the room, so no need to pay a deposit for the remote control as I've had to do before. Other comments about there being a lot of noise through the walls are surprising as we heard virtually nothing all week. The hotel seemed generally quiet, the pool was nice and relaxed all day although it could do with just a few more sunbeds as by the time we got up (in the afternoon!) most had gone but it was never really a big issue.

We knew when we booked it that it was going to be quite a walk from the main town of San An so it didn't really bother us, a €10 taxi or a €3 each boat taxi across the bay saves you having to walk though.

The Spar shop is really handy, and I didn't really think it was that over-priced (as some have mentioned), at least not for the basics like water, bread, cheese etc.

The reception team were very helpful and always had a smile, the cleaners were also great - they came every day and the couple of times we were all still asleep they just left clean towels and left us to it rather than insisting they cleaned around us.

We used the bar/snack bar most days, food is pretty good but I'd have preferred smaller portions for a lower cost, I don't think I finished anything I purchased! It's also cheaper to buy a pint of lager than a pint of soft drink (well half a pint of ice and half a pint of soft drink).

One of the nicer hotels I've stayed at in Ibiza, but it's distance out of town and the less-than-ideal sleeping arrangements for us means it's not my first choice in future but it's certainly the first alternative.

Room Tip: Make sure you know which type of room you're getting if bunk beds don't work for you

I would like to take this oportunity to inform you that we have bought more sunbeds for both swimming pool areas, so for your next visit, you will have more sunbeds available for you and your friends. I am glad we are your first alternative choice in Ibiza, but hopefully we will change your mind next time and become your first choice.
