“Sagana Resort Review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

I'm already trying to work out how I can go back to Sagana, as it pretty much ticks every box when it comes to the ultimate chill-out holiday. The resort is in a fantastic location, the atmosphere is relaxed but fun, and the food is stunning.

Really can't recommend this resort highly enough, if you're looking for an unaffected, leisurely break away from it all.

Room Tip: It's worth asking about the room that directly faces the ocean, as this has the best view

This is the second time I have stayed here and as a non-surfer I can say it was just great, even though i wasn't surfing. There is enough to do to keep you busy and Gerry and Sue are great hosts who are happy to arrange any activities or requests. The food here is top notch with an amazing variety and all so delicious.

The attention to detail is what makes all the difference compared to other resorts. This place makes you feel like one of the family, it is laid back and super relaxing. What more could you want?

My GF had a manicure and massage on the front deck of our room which was easily organised by Gerry and Sue. you can spend the afternoon sitting in the Cobo with a cool drink and your book or just watching the surfers and sets roll in.

Such a great place and amazing food. You cant go wrong!

We didnt actually stay here but visited many times for meals and to hang out by the pool or in the front bungalow watching the waves at Cloud 9. Our kids became friends with the owners (Gerry and Susan) daughter and they got on like besties. I had a look at the rooms and they are great, the food is sensational with a changing dinner menu every night depending on whats fresh!
Gerry and Susan are great hosts with warmth and hospitality like not many other! I would definitely stayed here if I hadnt have booked other accomodation before i arrived.

I stayed at Sagana in October for a week with a Surf Package deal, including surf lessons, all meals and body massage.
My routine was perfect... I had surf lessons every morning simply with the international champion Rodolfo “Osot” Alcala - the best teacher and coolest guy ever - came back for a big healthy brekkie and hang out on the beach with Oscar, Gerry and Susan's dog. Watched the other surfers and met cool people.
The resort is small so is not crowded and the people you meet there are always nice to hang with. Food is just amazing! Healthy and fresh! They also have Vegemite!
The surfing is the biggest activity there but you can also rent a boat for island hoping, visit waterfalls, lagoon or just take a nap on your perfect room with bed canopy. Didn't want to leave...

We stayed beginning of October for 5 nights, just after the Siargao surf cup happened in Cloud 9.
The place is very relaxing: the whole place is well disposed, the garden is finely maintained, there are wooden tower to get a view on the ocean too and and the service will certainly be beyond your expectations.

The rooms and bathroom were spacious and furnished with style, though quite minimal. So more space for your mind after a long day! We very much appreciated the latest surf magazines in the rooms too! Each room has a small place where a hammock is hung to chill out ;)
The cuisine is truly delicious from simple to very sophisticated and of course fresh. Meals changed everyday, which is great!

Exactly what we were looking for!

I've been to Siargao island a few times and there are several nice places to stay, but for location, friendly and helpful owners and staff, quality healthy food, and comfortable accommodations Sagana has it all. Susan makes sure you have the best, freshest, and healthiest food, and Gerry can sort you out on when and where to surf. Having the front cottage for the last 4 days I was there, and being able to check out pumping Cloud 9 waves all day, it doesn't get any better than that!

Room Tip: Get the front cottage!

We stayed for four nights at the end of June making all arrangements the week prior by email with Gerry. Fortunately, the resort was quiet but we would not risk leaving it so late in the future as we very much enjoyed our stay and it is the perfect place to stay with the Cloud9 surf break right out front of the resort.

Susan and the rest of the staff took excellent care of us throughout our stay and made us feel part of the family. Susan has impeccable attention to detail and she sought constant feedback to ensure everything was to taste.

Speaking of taste, the Sagana already has a reputation for its outstanding culinary delights and we would have to agree. We have posted a few shots of the meals we had and of all the bacon we ate for breakfast in the Philippines over two weeks... the Sagana has it nailed for quality and taste!

As one would expect, Susan was a wealth of knowledge - for surf instructor, board hire, arranging massages, transport options, etc.

Also, when the weather turned bad in the morning of our departure and it looked like the flight would be cancelled, Susan had already been in touch with airline connections in Cebu and had planned out options for us, all prior to our arrival at breakfast.

Our flight did end up being cancelled and as we needed to be in Manila to meet an international flight the following night, we were well prepared to make decision and get our travel plans back on track. Thanks Susan, Gerry and your professional team :))

For piece of mind and a care free holiday, do yourself a favour and book in at Sagana Resort.
