“Enjoyed the stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

We originally booked to stay in the Three by TPV (where we stayed previously before Jetwing group took over and enjoyed very much). We had a very bad experience with the Light House hotel owned by Jetwing a few years ago, since then, we avoid Jetwing group hotels like the plague.

However, when we booked the repeat stay with the TPV, some months before our travel, we didn't know that the management has changed to Jetwing. When we turned up, we had issues with the room we booked, the manager contacted the area manager, a very pleasant and helpful young gentleman who gave us the choice of upgrade to a better suite at the TPV or move to the nearby Mosvold villa.

We opted to stay in the Mosvold Villa. It turned out to be a good choice. You cannot beat the location of Mosvold Villa or the beautiful beach. Very good for swimming. The villa itself is very well appointed, nice decor with relaxed atmosphere. The staff were excellent, especially the young manager Thushara, who always seem to be at hand to inquire about guest's needs and attend to them.

Our suite was very large and spacious. Swimming pool and the garden area was good for relaxing. I had some work to do, meeting a dead line, I managed to get it done while sitting under a palm tree (with the use of free wi-fi connection), enjoying the sea view.

We had some meals there, the chef was attentive and always willing to accommodate guest's needs.

We also visited the Fortress hotel for lunch (where we got free Champagne and 10% discount on food and drinks, we were told that's because they do a special deal for "guests from the villas"). Thank you Fortress for that, it was a nice gesture and the food was fantastic. With or without discount, we will visit the Fortress for lunch/dinner again.

Well done to the staff and the management at the Mosvold villa. They succeeded in changing our minds about the Jetwing group.

In contrast to our treatment by the front desk manger at the Light House hotel in 2007 (the old school person who wouldn't recognise the concept of customer service even if bit him in the back side), Mosvold manager Thushara and the young area manager could not have been more professional and pleasant. They seem to understand the business and the value of repeat custom.

We certainly will recommend Mosvold Villa to anybody who seek relaxing, luxurious yet homely place with a nice beach to body board, surf or swim.

We stayed at the Mosvold Villa for 5 days at the end of our journey around Sri Lanka over Christmas with our two teenagers. We couldnt believe the location when we arrived, it is spectacular, on a stunning and empty beach with great surf and soft sand. The villa is beautifully maintained, the grounds, pool and rooms are immaculate. The staff work very hard but are discrete. The chef is excellent and a great character too, always coming out after your meal to chat and make sure you liked your food. Everything is on Sri Lankan time, but just go with it and you quickly relax. It was our favourite location of the trip.

Room Tip: There isnt a bad room but we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite which is spectacular.

We spent 9 days at the villa and we would love to come again! Spacious rooms, excellent staff and amazing Food. The villa has not yet alcohol permition, so you have to bring what you want at the moment. This should soon be in order. The pool area is big enough and very nice. You have to walk some 100 meters on the beach if you want to take a swim in the ocean because or some rocky corals just outside the villa. The Beach is very nice and clean, but there is constant wawes. Perfect for surfing but not so much for snorkling. Good value for money!

Excellent value for the money. We spent 2 nights here as a weekend break from the bustle of Colombo. A tranquil place to relax, lounge by the large pool adn take in the beautiful views out across the ocean and coastline. The villa was tastefully furnished, very clean. The rooms spacious and the gardens well maintained. The staff friendly and helpful and the food was simply divine. The chef, Mr De Silva, prepared the meals of our choice and after my 6 years living in Sri Lanka as an expat, I can recommend the quality was to a higher standard than some of the finest restaurants on the island. As yet, the hotel does not have a liquor license however; they kindly offered to send someone to get our own supplies. A nice stretch of beach but the sea was a little rough and if you are not a strong swimmer they suggest walking a little further round the coast. We had one small recommendation, to have in-room tea and coffee making facilities made available. The manager advised this was already under discussion. We enjoyed our time there so much that we have booked another weekend, hopefully trying out the Honeymoon Suite.

Room Tip: Other than the Honeymoon Suite, all the rooms seem to offer the same features, ground level with vie...

If you just want to relax and just chill near the pool with a good book this is the place to come. We were group of eight with young kids. The entire hotel was virtually to us with absolute privacy. Great location (not very far from Galle and quite close to Unawatuna). The staff was accommodating at all times. Rooms were excellent. The honeymoon suit was great with its individual Jacuzzi overlooking the pool and outdoor shower. The food was delicious and made to order. The evenings were great near the pool side bar. Note since the hotel does not have a liquor license it is wise to carry your own booze. All in all a great stay!

Lovely eight room hotel located at a scenic cove in Southern Sri Lanka. Rooms are large and well appointed. Great for a relaxed homely holiday. Food is adequate. Service requires improvement. For example, bottles, glasses and cluttered table in lounge area uncleared from previous night and we had to ask staff to clean up area before we could sit down to morning coffee. Staff are pleasant but considers various aspects of service "specialized". The waiter serving drinks will not clean tables; the security guard will not help with baggage. Wheel chair access is daunting (as in many hotels in Sri Lanka) beginning with a steep ramp up from driveway. Then access to every room requires a step up. BYOB as hotel does not have liquor license or does not provide alcohol, but there is no corkage charge.

If its in you budget possibilities, it is a definite choice. The place and the staff make you feel like you are royalty (of course it helped that we were the only guests), the setting is amazing, you can surf and get lessons just 100m down the beach. And of course, the food is amazing, and that only because its hard to find a better adjective :-) The rooms are well thought through, the bathroom is spectaculat, there are lots of sockets etc. Pool great, Bar great, everything great :-)

To get the downsides, at this price tag they really shouldnt skim on the TV channels and pay for HBO and so on. Also the WiFi is not really reliable and there are frequent power cuts - perhaps a generator wouldnt hurt. Also the absence of spa area or atleast a designated place to take massages (can be arranged through staff) is a bummer and something to think about. Also a new pub/disco was opening beside the villa just as we were there and it was quite disturbing.

Room Tip: All the 6 rooms seem very similar, perhaps its best to be on the far right (facing the sea) as on th...
