“Fantastic Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This a must do stay if in Sri Lanka, the only complaint that we had was with the weather. We went on the Landrover safari and the heavens opened. To be fair that is not the hotels fault. The bungalows were magnificent, the food excellent and we were staying at the time of their new year celebrations.

I cannot praise the staff and the quality high enough.

Upon arriving at this hotel my wife and I were quickly checked in and managed to catch dinner before 10pm, the food was very nice with lots of variety which was all clearly labelled, rooms have got air con which was great as it's very hot in this place, also room was very clean and spacious, our curtain broke in our room but a quick call to reception we had a guy fixing it in no time.
Next we did the safari and we were soon in a jeep as the pick up point is in the complex, we had a 3 hour afternoon safari and sadly we didn't see any leopards, we saw elephants, crocodiles, wild boar, mongooses, herons. The safari does feel like a bit of a circus when one jeep radios a siting, everyone else swarms in, I mean what leopard is going to sit by a dirt track while 50 screaming jeeps full of tourist pulls up? None! They can hear car vibrations from far away, I'm guessing the only way you would get a decent view is from the distance with binoculars or a high zoom lens, never the less my wife is determined to see a leopard so she's off out again tomorrow at 5.30am and £60 lighter to try and spot one.
Getting back to the hotel itself, there is a nice pool area, 1 bar downstairs and a restaurant on the 1st floor with a rooftop bar above it.
The staff tell you not to go walking about at night because of all the wild animals, leopards and elephants have been spotted on the complex.
One last piece of advice, don't forget to pack binoculars and a touch like I did, oh and a camera with a big zoom lens.

We spent two nights here and enjoyed the hotel and all it had to offer. The buffet breakfast was great, we relaxed by the pool and ate downstairs each night. On the early morning start for our safari there was tea and coffee as well as some plain cake to help yourself to before going out. We could have taken a packed breakfast but opted to have breakfast in the restaurant when we returned.
Our room was well furnished and maintenance sorted out a problem we had with our mini bar fridge. We thought the idea of calling for a guide to take you to dinner after dark was a bit of a joke until I opened our door and saw a wild pig outside! We also saw water buffalo in the lake and crocodile on the small island. There were monkeys on the road and we enjoyed a walk to the nearby beach.
My only criticism is that the lighting in the guest rooms was a little dark at night, hard to sort things out in your suitcase!

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of our Sri Lankan tour, on arrival we were greeted by 2 large grey langur Monkeys running around the pool and a view of the lake, which housed a number of buffalo and crocodiles.
We received a welcome drink on arrival and were upgraded to the Beach Lodge overlooking the Indian Ocean.
The raised lodge was small and very hot , the air conditioning unit worked overtime during our stay, but the atmosphere was authentic and was a great experience. Went on a morning Safari to nearby Yala and saw a Leopard, Elephants, Snakes, Birds etc……

The Monkeys provided lots of entertainment whilst sitting in the bar. The staff were generally friendly , the food was well labelled for Vegetarians and a good choice available.
The only issue was the open restaurant which was very hot and attracted a lot of Insects, i though a little more could have been done to prevent my meal being eaten by several mouths at once.
Overall though an amazing experience and will hopefully go back one day.

Good facilities, rooms were very good and well maintained.
Stayed in a Jungle Chalet.Bathroom was very nice with a walking shower , loved the space.
Food is excellent with a good choice.
Nice and friendly staff.
Did a morning Safari. Not much of animals were there but it was a good one.
Recommend to stay there at least for 02 nights and do a morning and an evening safari for the best glimpse of Animals
Jeep drivers are stupid cows**** 4 x 4's race to one place if they have seen an animal. I mean we are going there to see those animals but once we were waiting on a queue of vehicles to see a Leopard and wasted more than an hour of our time. It was great to see that Leopard but !!!!
Guys if you see a dumb driver driving crazy without thinking of the others and animals please please report to the park warden. He is happy to speak to you and he will take necessary action against the driver . Write down the vehicle registration number and hand over to park warden on your way out of the park. Tell your guide you want to make a complaint to the warden.
I saw one Monkey driver and I spoke to the warden and he said people do not come back to him and complaint against the stupid drivers to take necessary action.
Driving ban for 2 weeks inside the park if they drive crazy!! Take your time and do it..best for the animals and for others.

Sorry for bringing this up on this review but as we are going there for safari it may be helpful.
Did we enjoyed the stay ? yes, very much
Going there again? Definitely

We stayed here one night for our Yala safari. When you first drive in past the lake (with crocodiles!) and see all the elephant crossing signs, you realize you really are in the wild. Unfortunately we could only stay one night so we did not get to see the whole property.

Our room was huge and very comfortable. One thing that did not seem complete was the ceiling was plywood which if painted dark brown and the beams left natural, would look a lot nicer. There was a gecko in our room one night, which was cute and doesn't bother us, but just something to be aware of.

Regarding the food, we only ate breakfast and it was very good with lots of options.

The location is perfect for visiting Yala, but realize you will not be close by any shops or restaurants. We were able to see mongoose, elephants, and a leopard (which seemed like a celebrity swarmed by paparazzi). After safari in Africa, this was not as impressive, so don't compare it to that, but it was enjoyable. We also stopped by the beach in the park and saw where the tsunami hit. I never did see the beach on the hotel property, but was warned that it was not safe.

Overall I would stay here again.

Stayed three nights here and got in two safaris while on a tour of Sri Lanka.
We found the accommodation in separate chalets set in the surrounding woods/jungle to be very comfortable and well equipped. During hours of darkness there is a recommendation to phone reception for a guide to accompany you to the restaurant main complex in case of wild animal problems. Quite what the accompanying guide would do when only armed with a torch is debateable but it is a quaint idea and you are unlikely to come to harm. Tracks to the chalets are all lit at night anyway, albeit subdued lighting.
We found the staff excellent, and food quality and choice to be superb.
Lovely pool, but do not swim in the adjacent lake - just content yourself with photographing the crocodiles and bird life.
The beach is also very close, but the sea currents and waves made it dangerous for bathing.
The hotel is remote from any village - no shopping - wonderful! The access track is undergoing major renovation and bumpy slow bus rides to & fro should be a thing of the past in around 12 months time.
Overall a great place to view wild life and relax for a few days. Oh! & free WiFi was fine.
