“Not really 5 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

Stayed here on business, after a change of room enjoyed a good nights sleep. The second room was like being in a different hotel, large and well decorated with great views over Aktau. Obviously there are varying degrees of hotel room from the very poor to the very reasonable - luck of the draw though as to which one you get!

Stayed in April 2012.

Pros: spacious and very clean rooms; good food; friendly staff; great location; a supermarket and a few shops inside the hotel building; spa and pool bar on 8th floor with great sea view.

Cons: Free early breakfast served only in lobby bar near reception. If you want it delivered to your room (which is more reasonable at 5:00 am) you pay the full price of breakfast (not just the room service fee), which is about USD20. Internet is not free and is rather expensive.

Conclusion: It's a descent hotel close to the shore, but not very good value for the money.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are also nosier because they face one of the main city roads. Extra charge for sea vi...

I arrived there and was intended to stay for a month. Room was spacious, maybe thats the only plus. Furniture is very old fashioned. No wifi in rooms! After asking them if there a room with wifi, their reply was yes there is but u have to pay additional ~15$ as it is a sea view room. Which was ok. BUT after moving in in that room, again no wifi. Finally the next day, they admitted that they dont have wifi at all, except lobby & 8th floor. When moving to new room, the waste bin in toilet was full. After complaining to front desk it was cleaned. The key was stopped working couple of times, had to go back to reception and change it.
Overall after 3 nights I moved out! No more pain!

The Grand Hotel Victory, not to be confused with Hotel Victory and another web "look-alike", was a decent, clean hotel. Rooms are very spacious; you could set up four bowling lanes in my room. The furniture is truly from the cold war era! In my room and sitting at a large wood desk, with my computer and head set Skyping home, I felt like I was on an intelligence mission for the CIA. English speaking staff was limited to one person, and it was poor. The hotel caters to the Russian speaking business travellers (from Russia principally). The food was very average and frankly disappointing. Rates are 50-75% of the Aktau Renaissance, so is a cheaper alternative for the budget minded. I would have no problems staying there again, but if my budget allows for it, I'd go to the Aktau Renaissance.

I know - due to my business activity - in Aktau nearly all hotels. This one - calling him self a five star facility - is at best a 3 star. The rooms are big and good - bigger than renaissance for example - but thats it. The reception looks like a waiting hall in a train station - the pub in the building is very nicely furnished but the food is crab, Rest is OK, but not 5* at all, the hotel is also far away from the city center, I will change finally to Chagala soon which is best value for money in the city.

I have a pleasant stay in this hotel, the room was very clean and large with a good Internet connection and selection of TV channels. Reception and service was excellent from arrival to depature. They also provide an airport transfer service (a large Mercedes)on request at around £15 each way. Room prices are resonable at around £90 per night B&B. The only minor downside is the Interent connection is £13 per 24 hours in the room or free on the ground floor bar and 8th floor cafe. Food was average but more than adaquate in all restaurants but do go out as the food is better and cheaper. Try Guns and Roses,

Huge Rooms and very comfortables, nice deco, clean room and bath with hot and good pressure water. Three Pubs, restaurants at least two that I know. Nice indoor pool and great gym with Spa area. Nice and prepared personnel. All that will render your stay comfortable and relaxing. Well located near to the place where the Expats spare their time and some other nice restaurants. A great hotel for Business trips.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing to the main road, they are equally quite and the Sea view is fantastic!
